Thanks for the ideas - plugs were changed last year but not coil packs so worth changing these anyway.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi folks This problem is not proving easy to solve - any experience of similar would be very helpful. It concerns a '52 plate 3.6 targa 127K miles serviced by Porsche. Starts fine cold and runs well at operating temperature. It starts failing and misfiring then cuts out at about 50 degrees (or if you stop and try restart the warming engine). If I manage to keep the engine turning over (by car momentum or fast revs) to reach 70 degrees on the runs perfectly. If it had had a Carburettor and auto choke I would say it was sticking closed for a while. Temperature sender and crank sensor (engine out job) replaced to no effect. Some say it must be the DME but I am unsure and have had enough of expensive guesses. Does anyone have experience of this problem and it's successful resolution? Many thanks Mark

POST 2Original post

Sounds a right pain and its not something I have come across before. I would have said Crank Sensor (unsure why it was an engine out job) but if you have changed that already, most probably not that. I did have an issue where the wiring in the engine loom for the crank sensor started to break down and then eventually failed, the engine could stall but would start up again until the day it eventually died. A continuity check revealed the wiring was broken. An earth problem usually just affects the starting of the car when hot. Have you changed spark plugs and coil packs?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the ideas - plugs were changed last year but not coil packs so worth changing these anyway. I'm still puzzled why she reliably misfires to point of stalling only at this 50-60 degree crossover temperature. Anyone come across this in their 3.6 C2 or targa? Cheers Mark

POST 4Original post

Can you get a fault code read out and confirm is x1 cylinder misfire or if its an entire bank please . Also what if any codes are in the DME .

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
