Suspected cause
People seem to be generally looking at the older Cayman R and 987 Spyder, which I do understand but it is a little odd purely because the 981 is available in manual also, so my only guess is either people think 981 prices are still too high or they are prefer the better feel and better fun factor at legal speeds of the older cars, plus the Cayman R and 987 Spyder are probably the most bullit proof and most reliable Porsches that Porsche ever made, zero issues on them apart from the stupid tent for a roof on the 987 but I do love mine even with its quirks.

Didn't work out at the garage owner had been in a car accident which wasn't his fault and was in hospital.
Not a popular color and along with the miles it's missing more R bits than most...wheels and PSE for starters...
Your really just getting an S with GT3 doors, aero kit, suspension (that might be tired anyway) and color coded interior. The base R engine map can be easily bettered too. So probably worth the asking...? Been on sale a while though so maybe not...
I think we have had this one before a good few months ago. The main issue is with the very comfort oriented spec, no buckets, PSE or Spyders, and PDK, leather, etc. etc.
Probably a nice car but not quiet in the R ethos as alluded to above. I bet the blue seat back are a bit shouty
It’s going to be very hard to do anything about the wheels or seats without ££££ but it seems to be well maintained- service history seems ok. Lots of maintenance done.

Heya
Other than the mileage, does anyone have any insight about this sub £30k blue car ?
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202107195...
Been for sale for approx 18months. Lovely colour in my opinion, and if PDK is your thing then a good deal. Totally unsellable though after the next owner, if thats you If its taken 18 months at this mileage, then when you come to sell you may be waiting a while for a buyer.
That said, something tells me the car must be a dud as many must have seen it, tried it, and walked away. Actually I have changed my mind, its a money pit that one.
-83k miles
- No bucket seats
- No PSE
- Wrong wheels
- And PDK
You might as well take a 987 CS Gen 2 and DIY.
Edited by g7jhp on Thursday 2nd September 20:18
It’s either not selling because it’s a very poor spec for the ethos of the R with comfort seats, PDK and odd wheels but that could work in your favour as you want PDK so you could always put some recaro buckets in and maybe out different wheels on.
Why it’s not sold could also be because it’s a tired car and needs a lot of refreshing and hence money pit.
Go drive the best R you can find there are a few 50k low mileage examples to set a benchmark. Then go drive this cheap one and if it feels just as good buy it but if it feels miles apart then it’s clearly shagged and so avoid it.
I’d go view it and test drive it. Mileage is at a point where it’s taken most of the depreciation, and if you are keeping it long term who cares whether it’s a desirable spec if you are happy with it?
Colour looks really nice imo

Why a money pit ?
Gibbo far better articulates than I on that.
Furthermore. and as I say, something must be up with it as it must have provoked enough people to go see it over the past 18 months. Good 'uns don't stick around, and those that do stick around for a reason. and in this case I highly suspect it more than the face value spec.
If you check the MOT history on VN61 RRO then pretty much every year since 2014 there are a slew of advisories. Its a dud, trust me.
i'd be worried about fielding the inevitable questions concerning the incongruity of the strap door handles, vs the nav, ac and auto transmission. other than that i don't see anything glaring. but then again i always take the "buy the owner" route when purchasing cars.
maybe the five owners, the mileage, the graphics and wheels might bug me, IDK...but it's still a low price for the "R" from what i've seen.
Edited by hueyhoolihan on Thursday 2nd September 22:34
Cars only 4 miles from me have driven past it before its out on the car front sales, just an ordinary car sales can speak for there reputation.
First thing is the non Spyder wheels second that mileage I can see why it's priced at what it is might even have to go lower before it sells.
Only my opinion of course.
It is basically an R without a lot of the key R bits that add to/make the R driving experience, and it’s a PDK one at that.
Ergo it’s an 80K + mile S with an aerokit in a Marmite colour. Realistically it’s a £25-26K car to the right person (of which there don’t appear to many of out there at the moment)
I like the colour and the PDK. The wheels are a real pity. But then I'm going to play with it on the track a lot + sprinting (that's the plan) so the wheels would probably need to be changed to 18s where there is more tyre choice etc.
The 'slew of advisories' is a concern and would need to be resolved if I am to be a buyer. I would also have the car inspected too.
It is a tarty 'S' in a fancy colour with GT3 doors and better dampers (which were changed at 75k). I really clean S at (say) 20-22k would be a better bet but there are none. They're all a bit too much for not enough at the moment. Sign of the times I guess.
Personally I wouldn't pay more than 25 k for it yes I know it's an R but where I see it if I was a buyer the company won't let it go for that price.
Porschecare Matt in Stevange is probably the best nearest specialist to get it checked out.

A clean Gen 2 S at £20-22K will be very leggy on the miles and most likely need lots of consumables, clutch, brakes, suspension etc etc. Buy cheap, buy twice, which is fine if you're going to fit a lightweight flywheel, coilovers, bigger brakes etc, but not worth it otherwise IMO.
So it's had suspension refresh work?
I can definitely see why you're interested in it. If they could shave some of the price then go for it.
It'll always be an R and look at how's many old Porsches have been messed with over the year but it's the model designation when it Left The Factory that's all important to buyers eventually...
Like someone said, it’s been for sale for a long time and has bounced between 3 dealers - I think Maundrells had it for a year or so. Price came down to £28k at one point.

Yep it has gone straight from Maundrells to this new dealer. It was only a matter of a week that it went offline to resurface at this new dealer. Its been 18months at least.

So what do we think of the red one then ? Better ?
Better colour in my opinion.... its got 'the' wheels..... lower milage, but no AC. Could you live without AC? I couldn't.
That said, it says PCM and AC delete, yet the pics show it, and is the AC button faded, as it is not a blank button.
The pics and description don't match up - but if it does have PCM and definitely AC then I think it is great. If no AC, no good at all.
Might have had A/C delete after the act (which is possible with the under-idler assembly). I’m planning to track / sprint and climb thr car in PCGB C2/3 prof class. So it’s all about how sound the mechanicals are vs resale when I’m done.
A CS might look better but it would need to be the right car….
The red one is a better bet if they'd drop the price...
I can't see any evidence of AC as the blank button is exactly what AC delete cars have.
R buyers are very picky about PSE or not and that Fabspeed definitely isn't a selling point to the 'normal_ R buying crowd (which you're not
). R's had a bigger bore exhaust than the S and a new PSE system for an R is £3,500+ so ones without it get hammered price wise (same as non buckets cars)
Have any R's actually sold this last month or so? I'm just seeing the same ones listed every time I look....
Did Ashgoods have one pass through there pretty fast recently....maybe I'm getting confused with the 987 Spyders they had That white manual at Sasso has been there what 6 months?
Test that red one and make an offer if you like it. They've had it for a few months (?) so if they laugh you off just tell them that's fine, they can sell it to the queue of buyers behind you LOL...

I think Ashgoods had a silver or meteor one that sold super fast, and RPM had one that came and went (different to the Peridot one they have). I think one of those black ones down in Devon (that used to be with Williams Crawford) sold too....but yep its a bit stagnant of late.
Regarding your POV on PSE. As you may recall from other threads I got that Autofarm quote to do the R PSE (the official wider correct parts solution, assembled from buying the parts piece-by-piece, including the dash button, basically not the S PSE), but do you think ultimately, value wise, it would only come down to what the car left the factory with? regardless of a respected Indie installing all official parts?
I’m trying to get the 411 on the red car. The dealer seems to be very relaxed about getting the history/ maintenance records to me. They’re very busy apparently.
Your guess is as good as mine. It’s been the best car selling season in living memory…so one would expect a degree of anxiety over any stock that doesn’t fly off the shelf.
I’d be a buyer for the red car at the right price.
^^^ This. The beauty of the R and Spyder is the basic parts/maintenance isn't much different to a base Boxster/Cayman but it still feel a little bit special. No GT Porsche tax on the maintenance costs.
Andyoz said:
Very telling post from Ashgoods today...just sayin'
Stock levels of 981 cars seem to be building up, especially regular cooking Boxsters (as shown on Ashgood) and Caymans, but even the 981 Spyder and 981 GT4 stock levels seem to be quite high and there are now a few GT4's around the 65k with higher miles.
I can see why the 981 Spyder might hang around, because the 718 Spyder is a big improvement, essentially been a GT4, but the 981 GT4 to me seems a bit of a bargain at 60-70k region depending on spec but I think the supply is starting to outweigh demand.
Fact is they are cheap to run, specialist servicing at £350, no GT tax, better driving dynamics on the road and more reliable, I can see Cayman R and 987 Spyder in another year or two been impossible to find or buy, a car that had little demand when new due to recession that is now in big demand due to simply how amazing they were to drive!

And they in turn make a sensible miles Gen 2 987 Boxster or Cayman S at circa £25K look an absolute bargain IMO. 95% of the car for a big chunk less money.

Very true but in someways if your buying a weekend toy to use for driving fun on the road, then the older car in many ways is a more exciting and purer drive whilst still be perfectly capable to commute in or go shopping in if you so wish. I'd forgotton how good the 987/997 generation steering was until I got back into a Spyder recently, certainly much better than any of the new EPAS stuff, you just forgot until your reminded.

I agree totally, and what I'm saying is, a 987 Spyder circa £45-50K is a fantastic car, but a nicely specced Boxster S such as this at £23K :
https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/12137591
would give you 85% of the Spyder driving experience for half the price, and likewise a Cayman R at £45-50K is a special car, but for just over half the money, you could get this :
https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/12085638
and it would give you 80% of the R driving experience for just over half the cost. Granted it's got more miles, and in both cases the residuals won't be as strong as the Spyder or the R, but you could daily drive both the Boxster and Cayman I've linked to without fear of the additional mileage impacting on their future values to the same degree it would with the R or the Spyder.

Very true, we often have to pay double to get 10-15% improvement, what your truly paying for is the exclusivity of the special model due to either small production numbers or limited availability. It is become clearly apparent that many enthusiast have become totally fedup with where new cars are heading, electric, crazy performance or just about lap times and downforce making them somewhat not particular engaging or enjoyable at legal speeds and gone are the day where you could get away with 150mph on a b road or 160+ plus run down the M6 due to cameras everywhere, as such now its looking for what can bring you fun in the 40-80mph brack on a country road and most the new stuff at those speeds is still asleep whereas the older stuff is very much engaging and fun.
Any 1999-2012 Porsche with hydraulic steering, flat 6 NA motor is guaranteed fun, there is a reason why many people including myself feel Porsche peaked with the 997.2 GT3 4.0 RS, yes the newer stuff is faster but many feel those were the absolute peak and even though they were dubbed track cars they were simply magnificent and engaging on a British b-road, unfortunately for most they are now unobtainable with their 200k plus price tags and will no doubt keep increase money wise as such people are looking at the stuff your linking, with time those will either hold or increase in value too because the good fun used cars will with time become harder to source due to either getting crashed, crushed or simply added to owners garages.

Interesting comments regards the steering. I was out with a mate in his 991.2 GT3. He gave me a drive and whilst I wasn't pushing it out if respect so wasn't loading up the suspension but the first sensation I felt was the steering. Let's just say I was more than happy to jump back into my R that cost exactly £100k less and rip into the B roads on the way home. The map and headers mod really gives mine a mid range peer band from sat 3500 - 5500 that's really useful on B roads. The GT3 seemed to want to get to the Redline all the time....great for track but on B roads it was stupid speed time.
Ps. I'd have hid car in a s
t but can't argue with the R's but in and maintenance costs
That is the issue, the newer cars look absolutely sensational and they also sound sensational. They still drive amazing but they are more geared to high speed and track work, just stretching a 991 GT3's legs in 2nd gear is beyond the speed limit and the 991 GT3 engine absolutely needs to be fully revved out for both the sound and performance.
Which map and headers are you running, my Spyder is stock and I have noticed its lack of power around 3000rpm can be somewhat annoying.

Soul Performance catless headers (bought used) and Softronic map. You will lose torque below 2500rpm but the rest makes up for it...
The GT3 lad loves following me and the noise and drama...loves watching the rear end of mine moving about when I'm on it. That's coming from a bloody 991.2 GT3 owners FFS!! Same for a 991.1 GT3 RS owner in our gang....when he heard mine on a run the next week he order a full JCR exhaust system that cost a bomb. Mine was just a set of second hand headers and map emailed over from Softronic.
Be under no illusion though, on a track I wouldn't see either of those cars after the second bend LOL

Mine was just a set of second hand headers and map emailed over from Softronic.
Be under no illusion though, on a track I wouldn't see either of those cars after the second bend LOL
Edited by Andyoz on Monday 6th September 13:01
I've been looking for the headers but catted ones, can I assume if I go uncatted I will need a friendly MOT person as I am guessing it would normally fail on emissions?
You got any youtube clips of yours? How bad is torque loss down low? Another reason I planned on catted ones was to prevent losing torque but I know the gains are less, but I did catless on my 997.1 C2S with PSE and the torque loss was huge, like 40lb/ft down low, but the gains were also 40BHP, also sounded like a cup car full chat, but in the end I went back to 200 cel catted as the torque loss and how the power plot moved so much was really bad for road driving, perfect for track apart from fact was beyond noise limits.

Whilst my R was never dyno'd I found this Spyder thread and graph. This is what I felt in the seat of my pants and mine may be even more improved as an R with the 55mm exhaust and totally catless. First time drivers often stall mine due to the torque drop.

And they in turn make a sensible miles Gen 2 987 Boxster or Cayman S at circa £25K look an absolute bargain IMO. 95% of the car for a big chunk less money.
I might add I saw a perfectly fine 987.2 Cayman S with 50k miles sell for £16k during max Covid panic...the deal of the century there!!!
Gibbo205 said:
Very true, we often have to pay double to get 10-15% improvement, what your truly paying for is the exclusivity of the special model due to either small production numbers or limited availability.
One funny thing the GT3 owner noticed straight away on mine was the sill cover 'delete'. He said, "Oh I wish mine had that". There's a series of little details on the R/Spyder that add up to more than 10-15% in real terms. The buckets for one really get comments when it's out and about...

Bargain !!
Interested to hear your comments on catless manifolds Andy, I have to say I'm with Gibbo, having owned a GT3 without cats. That drop in torque indicated by the dyno chart you've posted looks horrendous, not a problem if you drive everywhere bouncing off the rev-limiter like Mr Demon would have had us believe was "normal", but for a daily driver I think I'd be willing to sacrifice some ultimate top end horsepower just to fill that area under the curve back in.
I'm not huge fan of noisy cars (I damaged my hearing many years ago, and it makes driving noisy cars really unpleasant and tiresome these days) so I think I'd reap the benefits of an FVD/M&M system utilising their long tube headers with "remote" 200 cell HJS cats, linked to a stock PSE system, that way you get the flow benefits of the improved manifolds (plenty of top end power from the long primaries) without undue restriction from the better flowing cats and a gain in low down torque plus the ability to switch between noisy and quiet modes when the mood takes you, hopefully without any droning or resonance from the OE silencer/s.
Basically the manifolds, cats and link pipes shown here, but connected to the OE PSE silencer :
Not sure what diameter the M&M tubing is, but it'd probably require the link pipes to be sleeved down from what I imagine is 60 or 65 mm tube to the 48mm ? dia meter tubing of the PSE silencer inlets.
M & M claim a 28hp increase and a 25 lbs ft increase in torque for the full system. So with a decent map, de-snork, IPD plenum, I'd imagine the end result would be 350-355hp. Win/win.
Yes, I'm not sure my catless headers are my forever solution but they're a hell of alot of fun and much cheaper than high quality race cat ones. If you match them with PSE and turn PSE Off or if you drive sedately with PSE on the car sounds more respectable.
See how I go at MOT time next March...I can swap them out on a few hours and retest is only £18.
A friend of mine selling his PDK 981 Cayman for similar money to that 80k mile 987 R. Happy to put you in touch with him. Like a new car compared to the 987 linked this guy is very fastidious its miles a nicer example (white one) and similar money I think if you'd consider the newer model. If it was manual I'd have had it myself its so clean he treats her like a Ferrari
He’s very young so advised him against S. it’s flipping rapid with PDK. He’s only selling to buy his Mam a run around. He brought from an OPC and has owned 3-4 years. Very nice guy (Adrian) car is like new. Mention Imi I’m sure he’ll maybe discount if you do
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202108286...
So I looked at the higher mileage blue car. Poor thing. Battery was flat (though apparently it had started ok 30 mins earlier). Wheels were in need of refurbishment (salt pitting)- and wring wheels. The exhaust is puffing from the right bank. Rear suspension bushes are pretty much gone. Corrosion on the brake lines seems to be there. Paint ain’t perfect. Headlights need a resto.
Brakes have been replaced tho (which is nice).
I asked about the issues with the car and said that I could buy but at a somewhat lower price and was told: “the boss wants full price and do we’ll have to just wait until we find someone who doesn’t ask those sort of questions about the car”. There we have it…
Nice to see it warts and all in the flesh so to speak stand by my original price its circa 25 k car.
Which they are never going to sell for that.
They will wait until some poor soul comes along who doesn't know much about Porsche and pay to much then have to spend on it to put the things right you have pointed out.

Haha. I'd have just said... "Fine, I'll step aside and let you work away at the queue of buyers that have been after it the last year".
What a tosser comment ...
Yes indeed only the things you have found I would be inclined to get it checked at a Porsche Indy for a full check over especially for those water pipes that go over the suspension.
Looks ok from a distance cars only about 5 miles from me but never been tempted to stop with the mileage wrong wheels and all the faults.
Yes it's an R but needs TLC which costs

Quite…and those are just the things I found without a ramp..,
The car deserves a passionate buyer. I’d do £27k but not a penny more.
I'd have bought @Rockers modded S than have to deal with a lazy arse dealer like that....you were just a week too late.

I noticed the Sasso white one has the price put back up £1k to £49,500.
Why?
Perhaps they noticed the JZM one and a few others and re-thought their price?
I am amazed Sasso, and the sketchy dealer with this blue one, can sit on a car for so long.
Furthermore, if this Blue seller is going to wait it out until someone comes along that 'doesn't' ask questions nor get an inspection done (which will pick up on a lot of it) then does that type of buyer exist? I don't think so.

Well spotted. That's weird....I know the 987 Spyder didn't have the black surrounds but thought all R's did?
Have they had to replace headlights at some stage. The black surrounds are a very subtle but important part of the R look IMO

The only thing I can compare the 987 Spyder against is the 987.1 Cayman S I had before it for 4 years. Though of course very similar, personally I don’t think they are close. The Cayman S went as I just didn’t gel and ultimately found it boring. 11 years later I still have the Spyder. I didn’t feel I was missing out having driven a 997 S around Silverstone experience either.
Also agree about older cars appealing to enthusiasts. There is very little modern stuff that I actually find interesting and nothing I’d think would replace the 987 Spyder. The Emira is the only thing that has made me have that ‘want’ feeling lately (in a price range I could afford). The final edition Elise also got me thinking.
The huge power and high limits of the modern stuff I just find pointless. More speed does not equal more fun. The performance is totally unusable and having more grip or power to get fastest times on track days also utterly irrelevant. It is hard to stretch the Spyder performance without it being anti social / illegal as it is. I’d have no desire for it to have another 100bhp. Last time I swapped tyres I stuck with the original Michelin PS2’s as I just don’t want or need the extra grip of the PS4S.
Occasionally think of getting rid through sheer lack of use, but once it is gone I think I’d seriously regret it with nothing of similar rarity and ‘specialness’ at the same price point.

I am in the market for a CR or a Spyder...kind of fancy either. Must be the oft discussed "perfect spec" manual
My take is when these cars are selling for £47-50k, they need to be "bang on". I'm sure the JZM car is good and I have bought and sold through them before in the days Russ wasnt busy on £200k cars. But... the only explanation I can think of for 2 standard Cayman front lights being fitted is a front end repair, without correct attention to detail. May well be a different explanation, and if its on SoR, i'm happy to hear from the owner ! That plus the missing service book stamps.
£2k more for the Sasso car with half the miles but no a/c. will hate myself if it steams up all winter
Pilote car I'm happy to be shot down but the owners thing.... "buy on condition". funny then when you come to sell it "oh, 8 owners, thats a shame"
anyone thinking of selling or know a car coming up?
This years 'market melt up' has now resulted in stagnant sales into autumn.
Lots of R's just sitting.
Even Ashgoods have 4x GT4 that no one seems keen to jump on.

Have been “looking” at 2 of the cars above, I didn’t pick up on the headlights but someone very nicely pointed this out, this is the reply from JZM.
“We wanted to get the car photographed and the headlights needed cleaning up…our detailer has a big backlog of cars to get through and we didn’t want to delay getting the car photographed so we swapped the headlights over with some for a 987 Spyder we had on site. The originals are back in now…”

All very strange. How buggered were the headlights then.
Mines on 60k miles and a simple wash brings them up fine LOL. If I was looking at that car, I'd make sure the headlights look factory stock. The surrounds actually aren't solid jet black...it's more a dark smokey look that's semi-transparent.

On closer inspection, taking what is on PH and AT, non-duplicated, is 12 R’s, of which only 4 have buckets and then of those 4 it’s a sliding scale of the rest of the holy grail specs.
The PDK ones always take an age to sell and of that pool it’s more miss than hit on their options.
The JZM one is only approx a week old. I am surprised it hasn’t sold but I’d be amazed if that hangs around much longer.
Maybe there is something more up with the Sasso dealer
themselves rather than the car. I should caveat that I don’t have experience of them but is there something else beyond the price with that one? Something seems off about it.
Purely speculation but in summary, I don’t think it’s as bad as it seems. The stagnation stems more from low specced PDKs than anything.

The Sasso one yes, the others bang on and the JZM one is a steal. How many years until another comes up with that spec and colour….could be years.
When benchmarked against what one could have in 911 form I’d say the prices are fair/correct.

Unfortunately that’s the Porsche way, but I agree, it’s not a good look (though I’ve seen worse Porsche interiors)
The steering wheel looks like it may have been re-covered, either because it had turned into a sweat soaked, congealed mess, or was the same hue as the rest of the interior, either way, the stitching doesn’t look OE factory quality.
If Porsche would understand that the carpets and complete dashboard don’t need to be the same colour as the the majority of the surfaces in the cabin, it would be a good start, and the Spyder with black carpets and a black lower section to the dash and the majority of the door cards, would make all the difference to how overused the red hue appears.

As the previous owner of the Sasso car I can testify that it's about as perfect as a 10 year old car can be. I reckon the reason why they are having trouble selling it is that most buyers would want a/c and aren't prepared to pay top money for one without it. Also, I know that its now due for its next service so that's another thing which potential buyers would have to factor into the price.

Sasso are being greedy.
If they'd initially advertised it in Spring at the £48,500 they briefly dropped it too last week (instead of £51k), it might have been gone before summer. All they've succeeded in doing is making buyers wonder what's wrong with it.

Agreed. At £48k they would still have made 10% on it for literally no work at all. The car had been detailed to within an inch of its life in prep for sale, so all they had to do was to take their own pics and write an advert for it.
I take back what I said about the Sasso car being due for a service. I just revisited their advert and they have added that it was serviced at Porsche Hull last week. That's the likely reason why they suddenly increased the price back to £49.5k after previously dropping it to £48.5k.
It wants for nothing now. A great car for someone not fussed about the lack of a/c. Still too pricey though in my opinion.

Makes sense...they've had the car so long the next service was due...talk about a dealer shooting themselves in the foot
I noticed the nicely spec'd Spyder was in for a PPI so maybe private sellers are getting dealer prices now ...Ninemeister photos show 21k mileage

Yeah, the Soul Perf stuff is overpriced new IMO...I've only got their headers on my car as got them nearly half priced used. PSE for the rest is the way to go.
I tried to see the red one at Tier One last weekend. Didn't work out at the garage owner had been in a car accident which wasn't his fault and was in hospital. I believe he's out now tho.

But... the only explanation I can think of for 2 standard Cayman front lights being fitted is a front end repair, without correct attention to detail.
Hey, the JZM one is mine. I must admit I didn't realise how much people cared about a stamped book vs invoices. Absolutely everything I had done to the car has an invoice included, service, warranty renewal, brakes etc etc which I thought would be fine as its enough for me personally. The new owner can obviously get the stamps added retrospectively if they wish.
In terms of the lights, the car was outside for the most part of its life and had a full valet every couple months but the lights were a bit hazy so to get photos up sooner rather than later they switched them out briefly. If you go view the car you'll see the originals back on.
Feel free to DM me any questions about it.
Sos PG it was the 981 Cayman I linked in earlier post. Well known Indy bought her today. I expect will be up for sale at a £5k margin. Really was a nice one for a car with 50k miles. Owner loved the car only sold to buy his Mum a car. Such a good son

I might add I saw a perfectly fine 987.2 Cayman S with 50k miles sell for £16k during max Covid panic...the deal of the century there!!!
Win/win.
I put this system on my 987 Boxster 2.9. Defo wakes the car up although it could do with a remap to get rid of the flat between 3-4K. Massive difference in power and sounds so right.
Had a 987.2 Spyder before and the pse on that was nice and howly at 4K but didn’t really have the solid sound this has.
Have to say the 2.9 is just right for the B roads and with some keys mods;
Short shift
Spyder wheels
Ohlins
Corner balance
It’s a pretty amazing drive for the money! Defo get to enjoy more sound for a longer period of time!

Would it be worth updating the photos with the original lights now installed, not all can get to dealers very easily, just a thought.

Heya
Other than the mileage, does anyone have any insight about this sub £30k blue car ?

Rather than that R, considering what you have since shared about its needs, then for the same money this I feel is a better proposition

Lovely car, but too nice/expensive to track, all the moreso when you're only paying a premium for the colour (awesome though it is)
Add in the chocolate engine and it's not exactly ticking any of the pertinent boxes ...
The owner of the orange one has done 4000 miles and every one of those has earned him £1 (if it sells for what he wants)
A lot of money got a gen1 and the £13k roll of the dice if it’s starts bore scoring

That is really rather lovely isn't it. Got that 70s signal orange vibe. As said it is quite a premium over a Gen 1 S, but it looks flawless and very low mileage so maybe no signs of bore score for while.

Nice work if you can get it fair play but even flawless with the low mileage the original price of 24k sounds the money.
A mate of mine saw an orange one a few months back granted fair bit more mileage for 21k
Agree with comments about bore score may happen low or high if lucky not at all it's a lottery.

Is it really £13K? or perhaps can be upto? I have been following one YouTuber going through a BoreScore rebuild with Strasse.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBq0k5gbX9s
Its quite a good watch to see the images of the findings once the engine is taken apart. But I think his is £4K, or thereabouts.

I watched that video the other day, he doesn't actually reveal a price and it now sounds like all 6 cylinders are being done (maybe the inital quote was for less?) so I bet it ends up being north of £10k. Anyway, will watch the rest to find out.
Well we've pulled the trigger on the car at Teesside OPC. We could have had The Crock which has just come up for sale which is a nice R-a-like but we wanted a PDK car (back problems - getting' old). So that's that.
I'll post pics when it's back home.
I'm thinking about getting the to fit the GT3 brake ducts now...
Well done sometimes we end up spending a bit more than a few cars you considered but from main dealer you get a 2 year warranty
Where a couple of less expensive cars you considered might need money spending on them
Plus I just saw the road tax price for that orange sport now a whopping £595 a year
A CR is £330 I believe.
Glad you got there in the end Enjoy.
Sorry to resurrect this old thread ... but I'm considering the blue R car that is the subject of the thread.
I've got them down considerably from 30k ... I know it's not very R spec (and the wrong wheels) and the high miles but I intend to daily it and put loads more miles on it.
Service history looks OK and it seems to drive well.
I'm getting a PPI done on it by PorscheTech to see if there's anything serious up with it ... but intrigued if others have had inspections done, what they revealed and do some think it will be a money pit ... ?

Further update on VN61RRO
(March 2022)
I had a Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI) done by a reputable North London Porsche Specialist ... and boy am I glad I did ... a true lesson in the value of a few hundred quid on a PPI.
This car as someone previously said is going to be a money pit for someone, in fact the vender is declining to do any remedial work and withdrawing the car from sale. As they've pull out of the contract my holding deposit has been refunded so I'm only the cost of the inspection out of pocket. The car will no doubt be put back into a trade auction for another trader to pick up.
I can't really fault the vendor as I'm not sure they knew the extent of the underlying problems as it drove well and I think the Porsche specialist was surprised how well it drove given the issues.
NOTE: The brake lines were picked up in the MOT history in 2017, 2018 & 2019 as advisories but were not in 2020 or 2021 ... one would assumed they were done ... but obviously not ! A friendly MOTer of a trader maybe of just a lazy MOTer somewhere ...
In the meantime to save any other potential buyers here's what they picked up ;
Some you can live with, some are just wear and tear ... others are major ...
1. Cup Holder does not open apears to be jammed
2. Fuel filler cap strap broken needs new cap
3. Roof transport cover dropped needs strip of roof rail to gain access and see for repair
4.Rattles from rear of car maybe inside but poss exhaust tin plates. (non porsche exhaust)
5.Service due in dash
6.Steering squeek when turning right appears to be inside car, needs further investigation
7.N/S and O/S ac condensors are showing signs of leaks and ac not fully cold and noisey in operation.
8.Centre coolant rad has damage to fins no active leak as yet but starting to look tired
9.OSF shock bump stop is cracking, not split yet
10. O/S and N/S front brake calliper pipes are badly corroded along with flexi hoses and brake lines. Front end brake lines and pipes need replacing! Can burst and cause brake failure.
11. O/S drive shaft is hitting exhaust in use on the road there is marks on both and this appears to be an shape issue
12. All brake pipes, flexi's and caliper pipes are heavily corroded, they are in desperate need to be replaced as they can fail at any time.
DANGEROUS!
13. Tyre mouse is out vof date in 2015
14. Intake cam fault logged on engine happend 500 miles ago hasnt happend since. (timing slow response), needs investigation.
15. Comms faults logged in PDK to gateway may be software related needs investigation
16. Siren comms faults to rear end electrics of car needs investigation and report.
17. PCM3 has faults logged on MOST optical buss and needs to be diagnosed further18.NS and OS lower coffin arms are starting to split at bushes.Rear suspension axle can become noisey when driving over speed humps and potholes.
18.NS and OS lower coffin arms are starting to split at bushes.Rear suspension axle can become noisey when driving over speed humps and potholes.
19. Stone chips on front screen not holed but peppered
20. Chassis is generally rusty at points as if car has been sitting for some time. Advise brushing off surface
Agree a couple of hundred quid can save a lot of heartache and money.
As previously said a few people have looked at it and said it had faults especially suspension issues at the rear.
It's been for sale forever well over a year or so
The last person made them an offer but the vendor wanted full asking and not prepared to do any work on the car.
It's not the best spec either no Chrono on Pdk is a no no plus the rest of the spec
I see it at 25k with the issues.
Lucky escape.

But otherwise fine?
See it's back up for sale again .
I think the dealer needs to be more flexible with the price of fixing a few of the major issues.
Probably done his shirt buying a bad one.
Just been for sale forever.
