Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My passenger side mirror has developed what looks like a load of crazed lines in the paintwork. i think it must have been a bad repair a few years ago that has now run out of shelf life. Its not the best pic and looks worse in real life. Could I home repair it? Is it easy to remove the mirror, respray it and put it back on again? or shall I book it in?

POST 2Original post

Depends on how good you are at painting. It's a doddle to get the mirror cover off. Just unclip the mirror and disconnect the heater wires, and you will see 3 torx screws which hold the mirror on to the frame. Fold the mirror towards the window, undo the 3 screws, unclip and slide out the bottom trim piece, and the cover will lift off.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that doesn't sound like a doddle - i'm stuck on the very first step - where does it "unclip" ?

POST 4Original post

hi there have a look in the FAQ section under door card removal, what you have to unclip is the triangular cover on the inside of the door and it kind of unclips at the bottom then slides upwards and reveals the torx screws i removed my mirror to repaint and its a 5 min job with the correct torx screwdriver cheers tim

POST 5Original post

You don't need to take off the triangular bit, unless you want to take the whole mirror off. The mirror unclips from the mounting by giving it a careful tug from one side. Does this help:

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for all your help guys, i'll let you know how i get on! all advice gratefully received

POST 7Original post

Hi there sorry Richard i stand corrected, i just removed the whole mirror, and masked up the black bits seems i could have done it allot easier cheers tim
