Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I had this same problem numerous times with my CDR-23 with "Hi-Fi" audio in my 986 Boxster S , and tonight I had the same thing happen in my CS. Symptom: Start car, no audio from radio, and nothing will make it come back. Fix: 1) Power off radio by pressing on volume knob. 2) Shut off car. 3) Exit car and lock it. 4) Wait one second. 5) Unlock car. 6) Restart car. 7) Power on radio by pressing on voume knob. I've found no other combination that restores the amp to functionality.

POST 2Original post

There's a number of faulty cdr24 's out there... it sounds like you need a replacement.

POST 3Original post

I don't think so. As I mentioned this was a regular issue with the amp for my CDR-23 in my 986 Boxster S and I doubt the amp in the system has changed, just the head end. Regardless, unless I could get it to happen again in front of a dealer, they're never going to swap it out.

POST 4Original post

I've found that I've had this problem too, where the head unit turns on and seems to be functioning, but no sound is made. I found that it usually works after I park my car and do whatever I have to do and then return back to the car, however I didn't know the exact solution was to lock the car and restart it. Thanks BillK

POST 5Original post

These stereos suck. Sometimes you'll boot up and the CD won't play until you remove it and reinsert it too. I had this happen a lot in the past and now I have PCM and it does it every once in a while too. It says "Error: Amplifier not available" or something to that effect when it happens. I have to fully shut down and let the ECU switch off then try again. It's never happened twice in a row at least. My CDR-24 was replaced many times and my PCM was replaced twice too. No help.

POST 6Original post

I just had this happen with the CDR24 in my Boxster . It started working again without having to got through the lock/unlock procedure. The car was sitting unlocked in my garage for about one hour or so, and when I started it up again the stereo was working again.
