I recall seeing a silver CGT at the side of the road some years ago - thinking about it it was probably around mid-2005, as I'd recently changed jobs.

The soundtrack is pretty epic and the engine is just so keen to rev, revs rise and fall very quickly so you have to adjust your usual driving to it, but it soon becomes second nature.
Leading evidence: 'Replace jobs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'rear wheel' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust usual driving' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. make sure you use it, takes some getting used but there's very little that compares to the CGT on the open road.

I seem to recall it was the rear wheel that was damaged but can't be sure.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. One hour to go before I pick up my new CGT, so excited (despite the near torrential rain..)!! Feel like a kid on Christmas Eve again.
Pics and first impressions to follow.
B
Despite the crappy weather, managed c250 miles of A and B roads around Warwickshire and Oxfordshire.
First impressions?
Car is a revelation! Its a really precise instrument, great steering feel and razor sharp throttle response, feels like no other Porsche I have ever driven - familiar as a Porsche in so many ways but with everything just turned up to 11, so feels very different and the fit and finish are another level. To my eyes it is a bewitching shape and in the flesh so much better than in print - they really stand out on the road and even in a showroom full of other exotica. Black was originally my first choice colour but the launch colour silver shows off the shape so much better.
I thought it might be quite intimidating especially in the wet and on narrow British roads but I quickly found myself feeling relaxed and just enjoying the race-car feel and responses but with sufficient civility to make it feel like it has been engineered for fast road driving and not just the track. The soundtrack is pretty epic and the engine is just so keen to rev, revs rise and fall very quickly so you have to adjust your usual driving to it, but it soon becomes second nature. In fact it reminded me of my old GTR when it was on boost, when the revs just climbed so quickly it was difficult to compute, so in in N/A car, that is quite something...
Pulling away smoothly takes some doing with the ceramic clutch but once you are up and running the gearbox and clutch are wonderfully precise and slick. Plenty of grip and turn in is instant - seems that you think it and the car does it !
A bonus was the wholly positive response the car got on its first outing - lots of thumbs up, open mouths and camera phones at the ready. My wife even likes it, so my guilt is reduced down to manageable levels.
I intend to use this car rather than stick it in the garage waiting for that impossibly sunny day - it is sitting in the garage looking pretty dirty already, which suits it!
Stuttgart's finest road car moment?? for me, after just one day, it looks like it could be... (i'll get my tin hat at the ready!)
Struggling with photo uploading so will try doing separate posts.
Congrats! Looks beautiful!
A friend and I sat in the bare chassis when it was at Silverstone PEC for a CGT Owners day, the construction of the carbon chassis is engineering perfection!
My second purchase when I win the lottery!
Enjoy!
ps More pics, videos and soundtrack please!
Wonderful!
I appreciate it could be a struggle at 10/10ths, but with the right drivetrain layout and a decent wheelbase i struggle to see why a competent driver would need to feel scared of one. Sadly, i can only imagine what it's like!

Didn't Walter Rohl say a Carrera GT scared him a couple of times? Granted, it may have been a pre production version, but I'd class him as 'competent' and as such I'd be quite careful with one...
Looks nice,im still looking for the right one.
Just watch the tyre pressure monitors rise before you give it the beans, anything below 8 to 10 deg,be wary and it will reward you.enjoy.
Some spirited driving this morning - really inspires confidence but reminds you to treat with respect when you push on, as I found on a wet roundabout, but managed to tidy it all up and it put a massive smile on my face. Exhaust note above 5000rpm is plain evil!
Thanks for all the positive comments on the car.
I should mention that I sourced it from McGurks in Warwickshire, who made the whole experience very enjoyable and straightforward. John M is a proper petrol head and knows exactly what to look out for when trying to find the right car, even if it means getting on a plane and flying to Europe or the Middle East. Based on my experiences (buying and selling through them), I would recommend them without hesitation. I know he is actively looking for other CGTs.

welcome to the club! make sure you use it, takes some getting used but there's very little that compares to the CGT on the open road.
no throttle on the clutch release and don't re-apply the throttle too early when changing gear. these two points will ensure the clutch lasts for a very long time.
if the front catches don't worry, it sounds worse than it actually is, there's a 1 inch deep splitter under the front bumper that takes most of the abuse and cheap to replace.
enjoy, it looks like a lovely example!
Absolutely fantastic things! Although having had a good look around the exterior of them can you fill us in a little more about any other details of the car?
I'd be particularly interested to see how much luggage space the they have, would it be possible to go away into Europe for a couple of weeks in one with the wife?!

LOL!!! you can take a wash bag for one person and everything else will need to be worn
the passenger foot well and seat is your best option
my suggestion is to pull a bird when you get to your destination rather than taking the mrs

roof panels if the sun is out.
there is a section under the panels that would take a small bag and then the suit carrier behind the passenger seat. with the roof panels fitted you could squeeze a slightly larger bag but still for one person only. foot-well is the other option.
no matter what you're traveling light.
adds to the fun

Agreed, one of the best things for me about the F1 was how it was designed with runs across Europe in mind with plenty of luggage on board.
Don't get me wrong, I think I could quite happily put up wih this minor shortfall
but it is a shame it excludes it's use for this purpose. Nice problem to have though OP
I always tell people you can SEE all the luggage space in a GT.. But in fact I've done a couple of trips through France in mine. All my stuff went into a suit carrier behind my seat, my girlfriend at the time split her stuff between another suit carrier and a soft bag in the footwell. There's also a useful bag that fits alongside the passenger seat by the door, probably the only useful bit of 'fitted' luggage since the rest of it is such heavy duty that it no longer fits when you put something in it. The killer is (womens) shoes, they just take up so much room. But it can be done.
I can forgive it the lack of luggage carrying capacity given how it looks, drives and sounds. No it won't fit Mrs B's luggage for a fortnight in the static caravan in Rhyl but for weekend runs to the sun it's perfectly adequate as others have said with a few suit carriers and a soft bag....
Looking forward to using it throughout the winter, but will draw the line at snow and ice. I imagine you would get quite a reaction if you put some studded tyres on it and took it down to the Alps with a pair of skis strapped to the roof.

Oh cheers for that, I find these road trips such an inspiration! I also think I may have shared a track with that car some years ago, I recognise the number plate. It certainly had a bit more presence than my car did

It was a great trip.
Afraid you haven't shared a track with the car - i bought the plate recently and it wasn't on a CGT prior!

Wow! That sounded a superb trip - bet the combined noise of your cars that preceded your arrival at each stop on your route was something to behold - they knew you had arrived!
Have many UK CGT owners gone for the reduced size front number plate like yours? They look so much better but does it get though the MOT with such a plate ( or do you stick full sized one on?) any police interest also? Mine has the full size one on its nose

Mine had a small one like that when I took it to France; first peage, bang, €90 fine.. No issues whatsoever in the UK mind. Now has a full size jobbie

Ah apologies, there was a uk black cgt on some Le Mans days we did a few years back and the noise
All the best with the car, enjoy in good health and keep using as you enjoy most

When I read the first few posts I wondered if this was the McGurk car. Congratulations and I hope I see you out and about in Warwickshire in it at some point!
Congratulations on buying one of the best sports cars ever made. The more you use it, the more you'll be amazed at how wonderful it is. Do get the new Michelin tyres on it because the old ones make the car unnecessarily spiky and are actually plain dangerous when cold.
456MGT and I have a mutual friend who uses his Carrera GT as a DAILY DRIVER (normally when it's not raining) in central London. I didn't think it possible, but this chap uses it like any other car and then hoons it all the way home on his late night commute back...
It just goes to show that the scope of the cars ability is broad enough to make it one of the finest cars ever - it really can do traffic and then be a Le Mans car home. AWESOME.
What ever is going on in the classifieds! Do dealers think pistonheads decides the market values on cgt,or do they think active pistonheaders are stupid and will pay anything for a car.
Dealers advertising as private, crazy prices, under offer etc,
2 cars ex damaged cars at nuts prices,i suppose they now look cheap compared to some other silly prices being advertised.

I'm glad someone else thinks the same as I do. I would be interested in the actual prices these change hands for now. I would think around 300 to 350, maybe less.
Apparently in the last 5 weeks Edward Lovett has sold 2 silver cars (one car twice so 3 sales) at £400K. His last sale at £400k is the silver with red leather car (I think) now advertised at £445k. From what I can tell the seller has done a 4 year service 4 new tyres and paint shield protection, so spent maybe 16k on it.
Good ones are going up and black UK cars are fetching big money. I know the owner of the 2400 mile black CGT up for £625K and I know what out local OPC offered him for it and what it's gone under offer at, which is very close to it's asking price.
Black UK cars fetch the highest price, yellow cars next then silver.
When the blue 4.0 RS at JZ Machtech went for £350k it was only a matter of time before people woke up to CGT's being very good value at £350K and the price was set to rise which is now happening. It's been a very cheap car (relatively) and I can see non black cars being in the £500K mark over the next 18 months.
Surely CGTs are not price sensitive to colour, especially wrt to black as there are loads of black cars so are hardly rare...? Or they would be far less than most other cars as the car panels come apart pretty neatly so can be properly repainted much more easily and Reading have repainted quite a lot of cars i am given to believe.

Local OPC who bid on friends car said black is apparently the most desirable colour. They likened it to black Enzo's fetching a premium over red ones. UK cars also fetch a premium over European ones although I personally wouldn't pay more for what is essentially the same thing.

Hah, unusual to see an opc talking up the colour of a car they are bidding on...
Black enzos are way more rare relative than black cgts which i would reckon are relatively slightly less popular than gt silver? Would have thought roughly half the cars were silver with most of the rest black with a smattering of the other colours.
Agreed, uk cars do seem to be asking for higher prices and given equal history there is no real reason to pay that premium.
It's an international market for these cars. The market will pay what it deems the cars to be worth.
There is a steady stream of US and European cars available for far less than 625. In fact almost half this price. Not sure why UK spec is so sought after.
Conversion to UK spec is only headlights and tail lights. Front bumper as well if you don't like the orange indicators on them.
Ride height is also a touch higher on some US cars but if you are going to use the car this is not a bad thing.

I agree re UK pricing. I think it's just perceived exclusivity from the collectors point of view. If you want to be anal about it there were only 60 odd official UK cars so for a collector this might be attractive.
RE US cars I personally wouldn't go near them for 3 reasons:
1. VAT. You will have to pay an additional 20% on the car when you register it in the UK. EU cars don't have this problem.
2. It's very easy to hide a cars crash history in the US. I don't believe they have a register like we do so cars can end up here without buyers knowing what's happened to them.
3. I think the cost of converting a US spec car to EU spec isn't cheap, and there are quite a few bits to change from what I have been lead to believe.
It is interesting re the sale of these cars. Many of the cars advertised on mobile.de didn't appear to be for sale/exist, sellers either sold months ago or are just claiming to have a car when they do not - all a bit frustrating when you are looking for one!
What finally persuaded me to buy was seeing a 4.0 RS reach c£350k....
Just had first drive with the roof off - what a noise when you step on it!

Enough of all this chit chat...let's have some pictures
The price deff starts with a 3,nothing wrong with a usa car if you know what you are looking at and good history on the car.
Black has always been a popular colour, but if you buy a oddball colour combo,as in the past very diffcult to move on,if its a keeper it matters none.
How can a dealer advertise as private?
I dont get the uk premium, when they are all lhd drive imports, and makes no differance when driving them.

Not the same car
A proper car starts with a 4, a good car with low miles around 5 and somewhat more for those that have delivery mileage.
You can buy cheaper but there will be a story!!
A few around for less than 4,a 300 miler less than 5.good for business to keep talking them up.
Some cars have been for sale for a age with less than popular interior colours.

I think your right. Higher mileage cars will start with a 3 I also agree with what Yellow491 says about colour combos.
The silver damaged one has now that increased a further 300,000 pounds.
It has gone from 200,000 to 605000 in less than a month.
Who needs the stock market when you can apparently triple your money in a month..

They must think ph writes and sets the market values for some strange reason or looking for more mugs to pay over the top in the uk.
Just missed a nice red low miler at 320.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the midnight blue and brown combo.

I seriously hope this is just a bull market as if this how things are likely to stay its pretty sombre reading for those who have missed the boat.

I've got to admit that the CGT values are not ones I've kept a close eye on, but looking at some of the replies here this seems about £100k too much? Part of me thinks that if I was in the fortunate position to be able to buy one of these then the peace of mind buying from an OPC is a good thing, but at that price?
The other side of me thinks that despite being a complete Porsche fan, £575k is a lot of money for a CGT. They had a RHD 993 GT2 in...owner allegedly turned down £800k for it? Surely not. Yes, 1 of 7 worldwide but even with the money, would I want £800k in what is (albeit a very special) just a 911?
Buying from an OPC definitely a plus point but I'm not sure what sort of warranty they will put on it. The Carrera GT is specifically excluded from the approved used porsche warranty.
I was at Reading last week for some warranty work, and on a tour around the workshop for my son (well, and for his daddy!), I was surprised how may CGTs were kept under covers in storage. The service chap was understandably cagey about how often the owners call up and ask for their weekend toy to be dusted off for a drive; perhaps they are largely owned by people who don't spend long in the UK and are effectively in long term storage? Also fascinating to see a few 918s sitting among the CGTs. How the other half live, eh?

It's known as the 'Bat Cave'. The CGTs are kept in long term storage for their owners. If you are acquiring a CGT build a relationship with Reading as only they are authorised to work on the CGT - contact their department that deals exclusively with 'special customers'.

not great if you live in Scotland or Newcastle then, you'd hope that Porsche UK would train and equip more than one base to handle the CGT/918

You could speak with Andy Keywood or John Manning at Reading and they could perhaps suggest some options to take care of you that would work.

Just think of the drive down and back, should make it easier!
Most opc would not have a clue on the gt,only trust reading.for a opc to work on the gt, porsche insist on all the tooling purchased from the factory before training and allowed to service etc, most opc would never get a return.
I think any second hand car sold by a dealer will have 3 month warranty by law,buy wisely with good service history.

It's known as the 'Bat Cave'. The CGTs are kept in long term storage for their owners. If you are acquiring a CGT build a relationship with Reading as only they are authorised to work on the CGT - contact their department that deals exclusively with 'special customers'.
rubbish... many OPC's across the country have gold qualified technicians to work on CGT etc.

Um, can't agree with that. Only Reading/PRG GB are the CGT approved dealership. Which other OPC in the UK has done say an engine out service per above?

don't agree then, that's fine by me.

Well, as asked - which other OPC have you heard of that has done an engine out/clutch replacement on the cgt?

Alright. Not being a mind reader I still don't know which OPC you are referring to but interesting. Genuinely never knew any other UK OPC outside of Reading was able to handle that.
Seems odd - I thought porsche had all the servicing at Reading, as stated. Usually they'll transport the car there and back if asked. Surprising they don't mention that there's an alternative

Sensibly priced car at 320000 sold in Edinburgh.

Unless there's a story I don't get it. I'm not following, nor that interested in the market, but getting unsolicited offers well in excess of 400 for mine quite regularly now.

I made inquiries but was too late. Told it had no issues. Had less than 2000 miles on it.Reading service history.
That seems very strange. Hey ho.
If someone bought that for 320k and there are no skeletons in the glove box, then they have done supremely well.....
Having been in the market very recently and still talking to those who source them, whether people like it or not, the general market for these has moved on beyond that price point for issue free UK or European cars.
The latest one at MCGurks is a beautiful issue free example, almost as nice as mine
Isn't that an old advert ? I seem to remember this car being sold at £320k some time ago now.
I believe no issue UK/EU cars with service history are £450k plus, with minimal mileage cars being north of this figure.

RE: the Edinburgh car; does anyone know if this was originally supplied in Edinburgh?
I recall seeing a silver CGT at the side of the road some years ago - thinking about it it was probably around mid-2005, as I'd recently changed jobs. It had some fairly hefty scratches/dents on the side and a nearside wheel which was missing some chunks of alloy and that was pointing in a distinctly different direction to the offside. I seem to recall it was the rear wheel that was damaged but can't be sure. Behind it sat a Range Rover with a couple of guys in it, obviously keeping an eye on things. I was with my Dad at the time and stopped to have a look and take a few photos with my phone (I was rocking an Orange SPV C500 at the time, which has also helped me date this!), as we'd been to the motor show at the Birmingham NEC the previous year and recognised the CGT from there. There were one or two others doing the same. We went on our way to do what we had to do, then as we passed in the opposite direction on the way back some half an hour or so later it was being loaded into a covered recovery wagon.
It was sitting about
here
if anyone's interested, probably around the no loading sign somewhere. There used to be a traffic island with lit beacons on it that separated the lanes before the crossroad junction, long since removed, which I suspect is what it came to grief with.
I might even have copies of the photos somewhere in the depths of my old PC - I'll need to dig it out, fire it up and have a look!

Blue CGT has not sold at opc for 575 after a month.
So what to do?
Increase it to 585k.
It will no doubt be sold now the price has gone up..
I'd whack it up to £695k, and then throw in a full tank of fuel.

If anyone knows of a car or is interested in selling, please pm me.
You need to be quick. If you look at PH pricing these cars are increasing by almost 100,000 pounds a month.

Do you post about anything except CGT prices?
Yes
I thought this was a discussion forum?
Are prices not a valid topic. I'll stop if it offends you..
Thinking of selling your one?
I'm obviously looking to buy. Hence my posts.

Shrug, just an observation, take it however you wish. Car's not for sale. Good luck with your search.

Please don't, carry on. Not everyone who has one will keep theirs for ever.
A white CGT with black interior is just about to arrive at McGurk I believe if anyone is looking for one.
I have seen the pics and it looks fantastic....but not sure Mrs B would take kindly to two in the garage though ("expensive 911s" as she refers to them - give me strength!!)

Thanks for the info.
DK engineering apparently have 3 in stock as well.
One very low mileage and a U.S. spec car with higher mileage..
Thread Resurrection...
1 owner PTS car 12000 mile car hammered at £400000 at RM auction London on Monday.
A very nice black 2 or 3 owner car with about 6000 miles I think hammered for £520000 at Coys auction on Sunday.
I would prefer black as well, can't afford either unfortunately..

Was a fine example. Very well looked after..ready To drive away with no further expense needed.
That's typical of Labrit. Looks after his cars and prepares them properly for sale.
