Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to have the air con condenser behind the front bumper replaced in order to get my air con working again. How much labour time should a good mechanic be spending? Have had a quote for 3 hours - that seems a lot given the relatively simple task involved. The car is a 996 C4S. Thanks

POST 2Original post

Porsche book times are: Remove & refit front PU (C4S) - 1.1 hours Remove & Refit condenser rads - 0.5 hours per side Drain & recharge system - 1.0 hour

POST 3Original post

Not quite the same, but i`m getting the air con converted to R134a on my air cooled this weekend and it will take 2.5hrs. Thats to replace the condensor, replace receiver/drier, fit expansion values (5 min), recharge the system. So 3 hours doesn`t sound completely unreasonable. Mine is costing £440 all up, so even after taking off the cost of the expansion value (£30), and a new Ballast Resistor (£35) it would be down to £375 and your parts are cheaper than mine. Done a costing based on prices at Design911 below for you. Cost wise id` say your`ll be looking at around. - £160 for a new condensor OEM (Behr/Hella) Porsche are about another £100 - receiver/driver £35 - Labour and gas for recharge circa £100 I`d say it would come to around £300-£320 including VAT.

POST 4Original post

There are two condensors on a 996. One in each front corner. Always worth replacing them both whilst you are at it ( unless one is already new)

POST 5Original post

+1 For that. Worth having a look at the other side while you're in there.
