There are aftermarket CAN Bus modules that have the ability to generate a more normal +12V ignition signal for on/off signal to be used by aftermarket head units.

I think the only problem you are likely to run into is the on/off signal on C-20.

I want better sound quality in my ride. Is it possible to change the head unit without changing the stock amp? I have no bose in my car.

Yes. It is relatively straight forward. A double DIN aftermarket should work nicely. Cabling problems should be minimal. Biggest challenge is solving the bezel issue. timbucthree

Look at this article. It describes the Bose and non-Bose CDR-24 electrical interface. Note that socket B has all your audio outputs. Depending on your aftermarket head unit, you will need to generate an on/off signal for the head unit from the input signal lines contained on sockets A and C. C-20 is used for this purpose with Porsche head units, but may have to be modified to work with aftermarket head units. Bose amplifer makes no use of CAN Bus. I am not 100% certain, but believe it is very unlikely that the non-Bose (ASK) amplifier makes use of CAN Bus. I think the only problem you are likely to run into is the on/off signal on C-20. There are aftermarket CAN Bus modules that have the ability to generate a more normal +12V ignition signal for on/off signal to be used by aftermarket head units. These units can use the C socket signals (C1 and C2) as an interface to the CAN Bus. These CAN Bus modules can be purchased for less than $200 US. As far as I know, this is the only interaction between the CAN Bus and the aftermarket head unit. The amplifier won't need to interface to the CAN Bus so long as the head unit generates an amplifier or antenna control signal as the Porsche head unit does (A2 & A5). Hope this helps. timbucthree
