Hi All, this is my first message on the site and i have recently bought my first porsche. A 2006 Cayman S.
Firstly, forgive me if i dont know alot about the technical side of a porsche as its my first.
i have trying to install a pcm2 from a cdr-24 into my car. I dont have a bose amp that i know of, i have a porsche cdc. when i take out the cdr-24 and put the pcm2 in it comes up with a message like this.
navigation, amplifier and telephone are not recignised - something like that.
i know i dont have the seperate dvd for the nav so i know i may set a error for the nagivation but how come it dosnt recignse the amplifier? i can get into all the menus, play a cd, radio but the amplifier is not working.
will i need to take it to porsche for them to program it in a way for the amplifier to work?
when i put the cdr-24 back its fine, its just the pcm2 that cannot recignise the amp.
many thanks
steve
I'll let Suneet chime in since he knows the details, but basically it has to do with what version of PCM head unit you have and if it is compatible with your car, along with if it is recognized on the canbus or needs to be setup in PIWIS at the dealer.
The simplest way to correct this is to have a dealer perform a 'Vehicle Wake-Up'. This way it will match up the cars installed units to the PCM. Sounds like this PCM is secondhand and the donor car had a differnent amp, the Telephone and Navigation installed.
A slightly more complicated method is to recode the PCM 'required units/actual units' but this is another dealer operation and will probably take more time than the simpler 'wake-up'.
stephengibson,
I recently did the switchover. You can tell if you have a Bose amp if your door panels have a "Bose" emblem on the speaker grill portion.
You did not mention what the part number of the PCM is. It's part number will indicate whether the PCM is suited for your current Bose-vs-nonBose config. For example, if your PCM is made for Bose cars only and you don't have Bose, then you are SOL. If you have a PCM that can drive both configs but it is not currently setup to work with your config, then a recode at the dealer will fix the problem. Suneet has posted some great info on this subject along with a list of part numbers. Search is your friend.
You also did not mention if you are getting sound. In my case, I get "systems error" message at every bootup but my the unit functions normally otherwise.
Getting into the status menu ("Main"+"Trip" keys) shows my unit was probably mated to a CD changer and Nav in its previous life.
When I look into each setup, you can see the "target" ID which is currently programmed into the PCM being different than the "actual" ID that it sees in your car. Whether these ID's are hardware or software ID's I'm not sure. That is what's throwing up my errors. A trip to the dealer will fix this.
Does this look familiar to what you're getting?
thanks all for your post, i'l do the check on what silversled has said and if the config is out then it's a trip to the dealer. just to confirm that i am getting no sound, due to the error of the amp
