Wife is buying an '07 CS with Nav. Does that work via bluetooth to her cell? IS there a way to work your cell through the car? Does the standard nav do that or do you need an auxilary module?
Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.
thanks
Michael
You can download the PCM manual here:
The Cayman Club - Downloads - Porsche PCM Manual
Don't have Nav myself or use a phone in the Cayman for that matter.
Nope, you need to add an aftermarket product such as BTA1500 or Tooki to enjoy that function. Personally I would recommend you to contact Eric form bumplerplug.com. They provide the best service at the best price.
Is bumplerplug.com correct. Site does not work.
Lose the "l"..
They are a sponsor so you can look for the link in that list to connect via the CC.
I will call Eric on Monday. I'm fairly confused though. It sounds like the cayman does not come with bluetooth connectivity. So what are the phone buttons for to the left of the nav screen? Is it like my '01 M5 where the car can be activated to be a standalone phone, but it can't interact with my cell phone? what's the purpose of the buttons to the left of the nav(the make a call and hang up buttons)?
The phone buttons are there with or with out the phone module. They are used to control the audio system etc. You have to order the porsche phone module to use it as cell phone and even then it is not bluetooth...you have to put your sim chip in the holder. Not the most technology friendly approach. Call Eric he will help.
Thanks for your help Rob, and others.
The old telephone module sucks I'm afraid and as stated simply uses a sim card. In my case I use a duplicate sim card but most annoying is that it does not work properly when my phone is on and of course you're limited by the capacity of the sim card in terms of contacts.
The bluetooth in my Land Rover is awesome and so I am sure the new system in the Cayman is excellent.
The official Porsche solution to using a phone kind of sucks. First, you have to get the PCM. This is where the phone buttons are (left of the NAV screen). Then, you need to get the Phone Module option. This is an additional option above and beyond the PCM (with the NAV and phone buttons). The final step is to remove your SIM card and insert it in the slot on the front of the PCM. Now your phone should work.
This option is not so bad in Europe, where I believe you can get a duplicate SIM card for your phone. However, in the US, they won't give you one, so you have to swap the SIM card from your phone to your car and back again every time you drive. Yes, it sucks.
I spoke with one person who had the phone modules. What he did was get a second line of cell service and put that SIM card in the car. He set up auto-forwarding to his first line (his cell phone), so that if his car is off, it forwards the call to his cell phone.
The better option is what people have mentioned above. If you have PCM but no phone module, get one of the aftermarket bluetooth solutions. These take the place of the phone module option. They connect to your phone via bluetooth rather than the SIM card. The integration is very good, the PCM doesn't really know the difference between the Porsche phone module and the bluetooth solution.
I have the Tooki solution. Here is their website:

There is an installation article here:

I thought there was a thread with some screen shots, but I can't find it right now. Do some searches for Tooki or Bluetooth and you'll see some of the other bluetooth solutions and some screen shots.
