i have recently been expirence some passenger air bag warnings and thought nothing of it. Well yesterday I was driving down the road and then boom PSM failure came up, I pressed the function button and then boom! ABS failure. The car begins to ride REAL rough. Every time I let of the throttle the car slowed down abnormally so I decided to pull into a gas station. I let the car sit for an about 5 minutes and then turned it on again and now a different light came on. (Engine service I believe) I thought it was a computer glitch of something so I let the car sit again for a few more minutes and everything went back to normal. Now what should I do? Take it to the shop? Have the dealer flash the comp?
Gremlins. Everything in the car is connected to the computer, and if it senses an unexpected voltage change in any circuit, it starts throwing error codes. A friend wired his Valentine 1 to the wiring for the courtesy lights in his 996 and started having all sorts of error messages occur, only to clear when he turned off the ignition. Suggest having your technician query w/ his OBD reader.

BTW, was the original failure PCM or PSM? One night returning from a DE in Phoenix, I got an ABS failure, followed shortly by a PSM failure, since the ABS is required for stability management corrections. I suspected the former was likely from air in the brake lines from the cyclic heating on the track, and the second was a consequence of the former. i bled the brakes, the errors didn't return, and I had Jim check the OBD and clear the error messages.
Good luck
Greg
PSM! iv driven the car 50miles+ now without any problems and will be auto-x for the firstime next week
Still might want to take it in and have the error codes read-out and see if there's some underlying cause.

This happened to me 2 days ago also. I was driving to the dealer to have my passenger window serviced, and coincidentally the abs and psm failure popped up. The abs was acting up as i was braking afterward. I dropped it off and as i suspected, when they checked it out, the could not find anything in the computer and it didn't repeat itself. Did anyone else get an answer from service?
I was also told that the auto close window feature, on the passenger side, only works after the midpoint of the window being closed. Unlike the drivers side that works if the window is completely open. Is this true? Weird. I will check the manual.
Sorry, cant help with the OT, but for this question, the simple answer is NO!
The two errors appear in conjunction sometimes when the steering sensor is not properly programmed. It should go away after some driving and the wheels turning lock to lock... It makes more sense in ajgcayman's case because his car was probably off the battery when at the dealer and it reset the sensor... but Sapple89, if it came up as you were already driving, you may want to go to the dealer before the auto-x.
I saw these PSM and ABS failure messages in the display last Sat. The car would not start. Instead, all the lights were blinking like a xmas tree including xenon headlamps while starting then these 2 message appear on the display. The night before, we saw the passenger airbag deactivation light come on for extended periods even with someone sitting there.
I called the porsche 800 number and they are sending a truck today to bring it to the dealer.
Gents,
I picked up my car yesterday from the dealer and they told me I had a weak battery. The service manager told me these pcm, psm and abs failure messages would come up because the system was prioritizing power usage to more critical items and thus reporting these as failed. They charged the batt and everything is ok now. I suspect the parking attendant had left the key in the ignition overnight and this caused the power to drain from the batt.
I left the lights on once, and had a similar experience. I was gonna say, load test the battery. Glad you got to the bottom. I found it unsettling at first... But it's been fine since doing a deep charge.
