I have the 505 in my FJ Cruiser, as you've learned by now you cannot change anything except by going to the Alpine website and using their lame images.

To use older Ipods, you need to get the full speed ipod cable, shouldn't be more than $20-$30, and that will hook into all older ipods.

Hi all- I just had the Alpine W505 installed and got the car back last night. I was hoping someone on the board can help me with a few questions: 1) iPhone issues - I have the 3G iPhone and it has to be disconnected everytime I restart the car. Is there a work around? 2) iPod 4th Gen - I then tried to use my 4th gen iPod (I know, very old) with thoughts of leaving it permanently in the car. The iPod charges but does not connect to the system. I assume I need to use post 5th gen iPod, but thought maybe someone out there might know more than me before I get another iPod 3) Background - I want to install a background. I have not reviewed the manual yet, but should I use the USB or rip onto a CD? Also, can it replace the silly pics on the right or is it just for start up purposes? Overall, really love the unit. Nice having nav and bluetooth. Installation looks clean and the place that did the install were great. Thanks in advance, E

Hi mate, I don't have an Iphone, although I hooked my bro's up to it and it worked fine, didn't turn off and on to be honest - so not sure if it's fixable, To use older Ipods, you need to get the full speed ipod cable, shouldn't be more than $20-$30, and that will hook into all older ipods. The USB connection supplied with the unit only works with thte latest ipods - I use it to connect up USB sticks only. In terms of backgrounds, it's a bit of a minefield. There's a website setup for custom alpine backgrounds - theimage needs to be a certain size and type, then burned to a disc, and you're good to go. To be honest though, you don't get to see the background often, and the startup screen stays the same. I'll see if I can find the one's I used and send them to you..... email me your email address......
