I think Slippy's purchase was last Autumn, so not that recent. There was speculation that a different GR 996.1 GT3 may be coming up for sale but I don't recall seeing it advertised. I imagine it either sold off the radar or the owner has had an decided to keep it.
There was also talk that fat trader 's Zanzibar 996.1 GT3 had been passed to 911v for resale prior to Christmas. I don't remember seeing this car advertised either so it was possibly sold by word of mouth. The likes of 911v and JZM have probably got a list of eager buyers ready to purchase as and when these special cars come to market.

A tad harsh
Mark got to complete his new abode. Slippy got to drive his favorite car around some of the best roads in western Scotland for four days. Seemed a fair trade at the time, (and still does)
Caught the weather right too ....
The strange thing was, not once did I think "whoever specced this car should've ticked the contrast stitching box", or "I wish this car had PDK mirrors with Porsche crested LED repeater lenses built into them", neither did I think "blimey, this diff feels a bit shonky", nor did I find myself troubled by such thoughts as "I wonder how much this old shi**er will be worth in 5 years time ?", and confusingly I was never left thinking "phew, lucky my ABS unit was sprinkled with diamond encrusted angel dust ground from the wing tips of butterflies native to the Eifel region of the Fatherland ". Surprisingly, neither was I left with the impression "that road would've been so much better in a GT4 with PASM sunvisors, PCCB cigarette lighter and passive bonnet release", or indeed "which peasant shall I get to clean my car when I get home, now it's got a microscopic spec of dust on it ......
Nope, I just drove the f*****g wheels off it and enjoyed every godamn second of it in the process
And when I'd OD'd on the superb roads, I sat and enjoyed the view :
And to answer the OP's question, an owner did indeed start a thread a few weeks before Christamas, he stated he may have to sell his Guards Mk1 GT3 Clubbie. The mods in their infinite wisdom saw his post as an advert and deleted the whole thread. Prior to that, most told the gentleman concerned that he should hold onto the car at all costs. I for one hope he's managed to do just that.
Thanks very much. Looks like you had a good trip and bought a good car !
Being the owner of a GR mk1 clubbie myself, with such a rare car it's interesting to know when they are changing hands.

Yep it was me that posted just before Xmas, due to personal circumstances I might have to sell my beautiful GR Mk1 GT3 CS. Though as it stands I'm able to keep hold of it but I'm close to the line
Did get a lot of interest from my brief post and the one question that everyone asked was 'how much', this I couldn't answer as I've got no idea tbh!

Its an interesting question. MK2 clubsports selling for high £50's now. So that must make the MK1s worth at least 75K
Sounds about right to me, even if I don't need to sell it if someone makes a proper offer in that region it's their's

911v are now advertising fat traders 70k mile 996.1 GT3 for £60k. Lovely colour (although I'm biased) I think a comparable 996.1 Clubbie would attract a premium.

Too cheap imo. If investor prices were based on how these things actually drive then the mk1 would quite possibly be one of the most expensive pork out there. And the fact that its half the value of an RS is just insane. Same experience virtually, actually a better experience as far as uk roads are concerned.
This for 60k .... or a s

Many a true word spoken in jest. It's a £70-75k car all day long now (and I'd suggest closer to £75k than 70K)
Good colour, CS spec and sensible mileage iirc. (I was in line to buy it prior to you Dom, but I got full on man flu/ a horrendous viral infection over that Christmas and didn't surface until the end of January, by which time I was behind with work and unable to find the time to view the car) Still, all's well that end well
Hope you can hold onto it

I'd like to see the size of those cats with 100 cups in them, doesn't sound a recipe for improved exhaust flow ??
I think he meant a reprogramming of the car's ECU. Which begs the question, what did the car show on the rollers (if went on them ?) with the 100 cell cats and remap ?

Just under 400. But with the Manthey carbon air duct that sits under the rear wing on the boot lid, and the K&N ram filter, the revs really zing now! Also I really noticed the difference at Spa this year. A similar spec 996.2 GT3, with re-map, and over 410, struggled to get past on the straight after Au Rouge, in fact halfway down the straight, mine started significantly pulling away.

So here's a question: how much for a totally original SY mk1 clubbie with 34k miles?
As far as I'm aware the only other RHD SY clubbies in the country have had a K400 conversion. This one is? As far as we know, the only SY CS mk1 that is still OEM.

Didn't think silver sold.
The market is changing/has changed, it's now more of a sellers market, if you want a car, there's a limited pool to chose from, purchasers are having to buy on condition rather than spec. So for those with their heart set on a speed yellow car, they have a choice, wait (probably a long time) or buy another car in a "lesser" colour but in tip top condition.

Given mines (non club but buckets + cage) worth 90k i'd say 100k
Hi, I've got a SY 996.1 CS though had a K400 kit added a few years back. Love the extra poke and the noise especially at 8k in 2nd gear though I do wonder whether the fact that its not completely stock might knock the value a bit.
The insurance is up for renewal in a few weeks and I noticed the estimated value on the last renewal is still shown as 40K (a value that 996 GT3's sat at for years) but the market has moved on somewhat in recent times. It a 2000 V plate with 49K miles.

You'd be clearly under insured @ £40k
I updated my agreed value policy from £37k to £55k several months ago. Based on the current Porsche price escalator I probably need to revisit my valuation too....

Thinking about it mine is still at 37k, does this matter? Surely its based on Market Value?

Always a pleasure David , she does look a lovely example ! !
And an interior pic of mine :
To those that haven't updated their insured values, I suggest you do as much asap, as relying on your insurance company for goodwill in the event of claim in this day and age is a risky business, far better to be safe than sorry.
I think that the minimum I'd value ANY Mk1 at now would be £55k irrespective of spec or mileage, but that would be the absolute minimum. Most will be north of this figure. If in the event of claim you're asked to show/prove where the market is, you'll be better starting from £60-65k than £50k as your insured value.
When I had the misfortune to write my Zanzibar car off three years ago, I considered it to be worth £38-40k. My insurance company appointed a separate company to value my car and make the offer to me of what they considered to be it's market value.
How did they do this ? They went onto the PH classifieds and Autotrader and found the cheapest 1999 Mk1 GT3 advertised. Having done so, they offered me £29k as a settlement figure ........ As you can imagine I got a little "agitated" with the individual on the end of the phone
I basically told him to f*ck off and stop wasting my time, and then told him to give me the name of the individual at my insurer who was dealing with my claim. He refused, saying he couldn't.
I therefore requested he got the said individual to ring me, which he did.
After another short and somewhat "agitated" conversation with the individual at my insurer dealing with my claim, he asked me what value I placed on the car. I said £40k. We finally agreed on £38k initially, but I ended up buying the salvage back and paying next to nothing for it.
I subsequently sold the salvage at a profit and ended up with over £40k in total.
If you can't get an agreed value on your car, make sure you keep tabs on the market and increase your insured value as you feel necessary (even if it means doing so every six months)
Wise words, thanks, I'll be ringing Mannings, on Monday.
What's everyone feelings on selling a GT3 at the mo? Private, or give it to 911V or JZM? Both are in a reasonsable distance, as I'm in South London.
All this talk of market values and insurance agreed values has me sitting uncomfortable...
What does the "panel" think is the value of my car:

In my experience it's quite difficult selling cars North of £30k or so privately, as many potential buyers will have part - ex and or finance requirements. There's also the potential hassle factor with a private sale, with test pilots and the like.
I personally feel 911V price their stock quite conservatively, the upside is their stock turns over quickly. JZM on the other hand seem more prepared to push the price envelope with rare / special Porsches.

Difficult to value IMO, but no less than £70k, and more likely to be £75k-£80k. Given it's LHD you may need to do some research regarding Euro market prices, sites such mobile.de may help give you a benchmark.

In a sellers market you should be fine for private sale too. Of course you need to be able to field calls etc.
With specialist cars like a gt3 I find rarely do you get a complete tyre kicker.
Typically it'll go fairly quickly - unless you are going for a top top dollar but slower sale in which case give it to a dealer to sweat it out.

Manthey BBS LM 9x18 ET50 and 11x18 ET56
Manthey 6-pot front brake kit 350mm discs
Manthey 4-pot rear brake kit 350mm discs
Manthey KW 3 suspension
Manthey RSR rose jointed adjustable suspension links
Mathey RSR hubs
Manthey rose-jointed top mounts
Manthey Roll cage
And no, I am not testing the market...
A very special car!
Difficult to value IMO, but no less than £70k, and more likely to be £75k-£80k. Given it's LHD you may need to do some research regarding Euro market prices, sites such mobile.de may help give you a benchmark.
your car sounds amazing!
i might be wrong, but think a silver not clubsport fettled by manthey was up for sale not long ago fir about 54k euros. can't remember exact spec, but it did have the manthey magnesium (?) rims on it. looked nice in the pics/description, think about 55k km on the clock ... my memory is not the best though. i think a low mileage clubsport will probably be somewhere in thke 60k - 70k euro range. check mobile.de, not as many for sale as 6 months ago but still a few cars around i think. Dont think you need to spend as much money in germany as in the uk to buy a car, but to get the manthey stuff again will obviously be expensive.

Thinking about it mine is still at 37k, does this matter? Surely its based on Market Value?
For what it's worth, my 996.2 (Club Sport) has been insured for an agreed valuation of £60k for the last 6 months or so.

Unless you're after a majorly quick sale I'd always try selling privately first, I bought mine privately and my dad bought a gen 2 RS in March privately and there are numerous others on here who have done the same so it shows there are still plenty of people in the position to act quickly. I'm sure I could sell my car to JZM for a relatively decent figure but I'm even surer I could probably get £5k extra via a private sale and I don't think I'd have to wait that long.

i am curious if this current pricing disparity between lhd and rhd can last in the long term or if the prices will eventually converge again. usually i would think that once cars get old, more collector cars that get driven a few k km per year if that, the lhd should cost at leadt as much as the rhd, if not more due to being "more original" in terms of how the car was designed. are there any cars in history where the rhd cars were significantly more expensive than lhd before this uk market uplift? or maybe is it because some asian countries are now starting to buy these cars and they can only register rhd, and therefore it is the new normal?

Clark - you're very right, maybe excepting the trade-in bit.....
For ref the price JZM offered on my 996.2 CS was waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy short of the mark IMO - £47k about one month or so ago!!

Certainly does
Seeing all these pics of the front cage section fitted makes we want to fit mine as well. I think it was someone on here I once saw saying though "if you wrap a baseball bat in foam and smack someone over the head it'll still hurt"

I tend to take mine out during extended periods of road use...however, a December Silverstone trip has meant it's still in...and April ring trip is already beckoning. This tme of year the car is being fettled/TLC'd for the year ahead and being used less anyway.
...if the front cage is in, I also use the harnesses for road driving.
Inertia belts and front cage is a no no.

Pah pah! It's not the colour of the car, it's the driver that matters.
Talented driver like me is fast whatever the colour..
Mine is Seal Grey btw, that's a rare one for mk1 GT3 I think.

Sounds about right to me, even if I don't need to sell it if someone makes a proper offer in that region it's their's

Its an interesting question. MK2 clubsports selling for high £50's now. So that must make the MK1s worth at least 75K
Pfftttt it's not even got leather seats !!
Yes, but it does have the very rare 'Porsche crested rear view mirror'...

Slighly O/T, but was there different factory options for exhaust on a 996 GT3.1?
The larger trims are the Tequipment items. No difference in the system itself though.
Your car looks lovely Dom.
I had the wheels refurbished on my SY 996.1 CS recently - really transforms the car.
Also have a cup wheel fitted which feels so much nicer in your hands than the factory wheel. My clubsport came with the front cage fitted and in nearly 11 years of ownership have never got around to removing it though I guess I ought to as have done very few track days in recent years.
Yes the cup wheel is lovely. It's a lot lighter than the standard airbag wheel and really does improve the steering to a beautifully delicate level. Yes, there's a bit more kick back but I think it's all the better for it

Where's the best place to buy a cup wheel? I quite fancy one
Gert at Carnewal.
I've run them on all my 964 RS's and my 993 RS had a factory fitted item too. For a 996 GT3
road only
driven car, the weighting of the standard airbag wheel does indeed damp out some of the feel/kickback you feel with the lighter Cup wheel, but for a road car that's no bad thing imo. I also prefer the diameter and thus leverage afforded by the standard wheel.
If you don't want to pay the additional cost for the Porsche logo on the Cup wheel, this is the same item without it

Been thinking of adding the Cup wheel to my 996 GT3, but held back due to issues around the airbag deletion. What do people do about error codes/warning lamps? Have you informed your insurers or is that a question best not asked?
Cheers

Thank you sir! I've been looking at getting the standard one re trimmed RS style but both places I've enquired with have yet to get back to me in what I see as an acceptable time so I think a cup wheel is the way forward. I almost struggle to believe the feedback could be increased further from what I already experience with it (!). Not a bad thing though as you rightly say.

Yep, tried them several times over the last month or so with no contact back to me. I noticed a lot of CSL owners had some issues with the quality of their retrims so that's put me off Royal entirely.
I'll get the cup wheel from Carnewal anyways, I've bought bits from them before and was impressed with the service
The cup wheel was already fitted to mine, high tech way of sorting out the airbag light is a to stick a 'blank out' sticker over it
I do have an original airbag wheel which has been re-trimmed in Alcantara but I've never tried it in the GT3.
If anyones interested I do have a brand new Momo Model 07 in leather for £100 (exc delivery) it's exactly the same wheel but in leather with momocorse on the horn.

I'll post some pictures later if anyone is interested.
Clark, I have a Cup wheel with the Porsche logo, the boss needed to join the wheel to the shaft, and a genuine Porsche horn push.
Drop me a line if you're interested.
Jack
Hi Gents
Should Clark not take you up on the kind offer, then I certainly would be interested Jack.
Highly unlikely, but thought I would speak up just in case.
Cheers

Seems this GT3 is now up for sale at 911v for £60k
