Leading evidence: 'best part of another £1,000 if you pay someone' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best part of another £1,000 if you pay someone' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone
Wasn't sure where to post this thread so I apologise if it is in the wrong section.
I am so new to the 911 and started to look around and have two questions that someone may be able to help with.
The first one, can anyone give me a ball park figure for having a GT3 kit fitted to a 996 and having it painted. If anyone has had a kit fitted with a picture and price of theirs ( especially if there are numerous options ) I'd love to see it.
Sencondly, I have seen numerous pictures of cars for sale and some pictures of the interior rear seats appear to show a carpeted area where the bottom part of the back seat should be. Can someone explain what is that about please, is it folded or removed, I'm assuming it is not missing to save weight or something else.
Regards
Well if you want OEM ones you may want to sit down.
Just checked Design911 and PorscheShop and they charge between £2,460 and £3,180 for the front PU and splitter, sill extensions and rear spoiler.
You may wish to add the rear GT side fins at between £411 - £470.
Then add painting and fitting, so probably the best part of another £1,000 if you pay someone.
You can get replica parts for perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 price for parts (or even scrappies?).
I am not completely sure what you are describing (a link or actual picture would help).
However, four seat 911s have folding rear seats, GT3/GT2 etc have no rear seats and some can be optioned with a bass box (Bose etc) in the rear parcel/boot area.
Here is a 997 with Bose:
All 966 have rear seats except the GT2 and GT3. Those that you see with rear seats are most likely to be a standard 996 with a GT3 bodykit - there maybe some GT3's around where rear seats have been retro fitted
For a non-Porsche GT2 bodykit £3,000 so guess GT3 would be similar - think it would make more sense to buy a car with it already fitted

Here is a non-GT with the rear seats removed and roll cage fitted (a GT2/GT3 would look the same apart from no tell-tale seatbelts, no seat anchor points and a nice "GT3" or GT2" plaque):
If you are just wondering what the "bump" behind the standard rear seats is, that is the engine!
OK, technically it is the engine bulkhead with DME (ECU) and other gizmo gubbins.
Porsche don't make a load bay that is flat with the seats down.
Probably because owners don't tend to deliver antique grandfather clocks or IKEA wardrobes in them.
My kit was factory fitted. I suggest you find a 911 that has one already on, as mentioned the cost of getting it fitted and painted is very high.

O.K would agree with you all, certainly makes life easier if I can find one with a kit fitted.
GT4.... I have found a picture of a car for sale on Ebay showing exactly one I mean, It shows the bottom half of the seat missing.

It is the last picture. Sorry if the link above doesn't work right but the item number is 280529600983
The picture of the Bose makes the install look very neat, did it take up any existing space that you had free?
Blue Eyez
Nothing unusual there.

That's just the standard seats/bulkhead carpeting.
You get squabs (base) and partial (folding) backs. Because of the curve of bulkhead/chassis structure and size of car the most efficient use of space (ie seat depth) is by only effectively padding the top of the seat section.
Also when folded, the boot space is only from the mid height of the seat back.
Just go and see one in the flesh and you will see why it is designed like that.
As for Bose, yes it eats up 4-5" of boot height across full width (you can see the seam in carpet on above photo).
The 996 actually has quite a large "rear" boot (well compared to front boot).
Very convenient in the Targas with opening rear glass hatch.
Also useful full size suitcase (or dog) sized when flat.
I put the rear seats down for my dog and the poor beast ended up sliding
around all over the parcel shelf, so I now leave the seats as normal and
he curls up snug on one of them. It's quite handy with the seats down to
hide stuff out of sight tho.

Ahhhh, penny drops. Thanks, drove 2 of them today and saw what you guys mean.
Still a bit concerned about the space for children in the back, positive being that being so low they are well protected around them, down side that our seat is quite a big strong unit and her legs are a bit close to the front seat even with the seat forward a little.
However, I have loads of time so will look at other seating options for her, but if push comes to shove I would not buy a cheaper less well built seat just so she can fit in, so we will see.
Thanks all for superb feedback. GT4, brilliant and so knowledgeable, thanks for that.
I suppose I could swop her in for a doggy!!!!!!!
