Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
If you dont track your car I would recommend the Cobb for more actual power and a throttle sprint booster for less than $200 and you can get the best of both worlds, or at least the part that most street drivers make use of without the high cost of full SC upgrade.

That "best tune" becomes the "standard." As far as using the valet tune, maybe if I was going to leave the car with a valet lot at the airport -- where they'd have the car for a week or so -- then maybe.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Folks, I have got a
987.2 Cayman S
PDK
with no
Sports Chrono package
on it. As nice as it is to drive the car, its does feel down on power and i intend to get some upgrades done.
Option 1:
Porsche
Sports Chrono with Sport and Sport+ button installation
Option 2:
Cobb Accessport
I hear that the SC from
Porsche
is a must have for
PDK
cars.
Are the Stock maps from
Cobb
with
PDK
tune, better?
Also, due i need to switch off the ignition and reload maps when using
cobb
even for something like a "valet" or "sportier" function, or can it be done on the fly? I certainly would not want to stop the car in front of a hotel, give it a minute or two to reload a "valet" map. Or for that matter, if i want, from standard drive mode to some power mode to overtake a few cars, pull over first and change the map.
please reply. Thanks
Gyri,
You might be over-thinking this.
I, too, have a
987.2
with
PDK
and
Cobb
Access Port. I also have Sports Chrono. I'd suggest you get the SC and also the
Cobb
, but without the
PDK
tuning. That can be added later if desired, and at no to little cost penalty (The
pdk
support costs the same if it comes with the original unit, or if added later.) Try it out and see what you think. Unless you track your car alot, odds are you won't find the
Cobb
pdk
tuning worth it.
Also, my experience with the
Cobb
is that you'll load the best tune available (std or Stage 1) and then leave it there. That "best tune" becomes the "standard." As far as using the valet tune, maybe if I was going to leave the car with a valet lot at the airport -- where they'd have the car for a week or so -- then maybe. But updating the ECU tune all the time would be a hassle, just not worth it.
These things are supposed to be fun. Don't let too many "hassle tasks" creep in.
Joe Henley
Hi Joe,
Ideally, both installed would be great. But, I am trying to pick just one option (either SC or
Cobb
). So is the best tune of
Cobb
for a stock
PDK
just as good as a SC "Sport" selection from
Porsche
?
Gyri,
Personal opinion only.... Do the SC. It has switches on the dashboard; easy. It does modify engine and tranny settings a bit; more performance. It's from
Porsche
; it all plays well together.
However.... If you're going to add mods later on, the
Cobb
AP is one of the best ways to fully exploit those mods. (PS: Do headers first, then see if you still want more. Seems to me that the ratio of fun/$$'s goes down after headers.)
Me?.... I'd do SC, then headers, then
Cobb
AP, then IPD plenum+TB. When you think you're done doing mods, go back for the ProTune on the
Cobb
AP. ... and then into the suspension mods! ;-)
Joe
If you want to have it tuned of course
COBB
is the way to go. As Joe said the
PDK
tuning can be added at any time for $700. The PDK sequential mode is really cool
Keep in mind that SC has nothing to do with increasing your cars power. It simply remaps the fly by wire throttle which makes the car "feel" more snappy since you get a faster response for less pedal travel. The sport + map is mainly for the track with nearly redline shifts and rev matching and is a must have for that purpose, but it doesnt do anything for you on the street at all. You can buy a throttle sprint booster for much cheaper than SC and accomplish the exact same throttle remapping that SC sport/sport+ gives you, even better as most sprint boosters allow you to to dial in specifically how much throttle response change you want rather than simply on/off.
The Cobb tune is an increase in actual HP/torque and performance. You load the one performance file you want based on your cars mods if any and it stays there. There is no changing on the fly for valet, etc. I'm not even sure why they bother putting those files on the device as no one is going to sit there in the car for 10 minutes while they update the ECU beofre handing their car over and then do it all over again when they leave.
If you dont track your car I would recommend the Cobb for more actual power and a throttle sprint booster for less than $200 and you can get the best of both worlds, or at least the part that most street drivers make use of without the high cost of full SC upgrade.
Question and comment....
Does the
sprint booster
do rev matching like SC does (in Sport for
pdk
)?
The
Cobb
tune by itself (without mods or ProTune) yields only 2 to 3% more power at best. Probably less if you think
Cobb
might puff those numbers a bit.
Good replies there. Thanks Guys. Not gonna track this car, just street n highways. However, I am still hoping for some more power, not just the throttle positioning being improved with
Sprint Booster
. And the free flowing headers and bigger air filter are certainly on cards. So, that means
Cobb
would be the way. Thats about what i intend to spend now. Heard very mixed response on Plenum + TB for Dfi cars. From all the zillion posts and comments, seems to me for real HP gains, TPC turbo system is the only real and best upgrade. 15K spend!!!!
SC and Sport + do a little more than just remapping the throttle response. As others have mentioned, it changes the
PDK
shift points and "relaxes" the PCM and gives you more margin of rotation before PCM kicks in.
Again, if you don't do very spirited driving or track driving then not a big deal for street driving.
