Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Porcshe has tried replacing the NAV CDROM units in cars with limited success; sometimes it gets quieter, sometimes it doesn't.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The cd rom drive for my nav system ticks very loudly ad the cd spins. Does anyone elses do this? The unit was supposedly replaced to fix this and the new one does it as well. Is this normal?
My Nav CD doesn't really make much noise at all. I can hear it spinning especially when I do a search or just after starting the car.
There is a TSB out for the PCM on certain cars. I have to bring mine in for an update to the firmware, but I don't think it has anything to do with a CD noise problem.
While we are on the subject of this PCM, does anyone know what is up with the lack of an update CD? Navtech said Porsche hasn't released information they need to produce the update. I'm hopeful the next update will improve the coverage as it is horrible right now.

Porsche NA promised me a new CD in June of this year. It never came. I don't think they are supporting the old technology any more. Navtec had previously told me that Porsche didn't buy any more map info from them, implying that the poor performance of the system is due to whatever deal Porsche struck in having Navtec do the disc.Navtec claims it is the supplier for other manufacturers which have far better map info in more remote areas. Since it seems to be a disc content issue, I'd guess Navtec could solve it on their own. I just think Porsche won't pay for any more info. AS
NavTech supplies the CD-ROMs for the J.A.M.E.S. in my Rover as well. The coverage is the same. The only difference is NavTech hasn't made a CD-ROM for Canada for the PCM, and of course that's where I need it most.

Alex, I can vouch for Navtecs' map quality. I have the Garmin Street Pilot III. It comes with "City Navigator 4.01" maps based on Navtec data. I have yet to find a road that is not on this map. It really puts the PCM to shame!
Try this (no I'm not kidding)
Find a CD recprder/burner and make a complete disc copy of your supplied NAV CD. Put the copy into your car's NAV CDROM. The ticking should be greatly minimized or eliminated. Keep your original. If this doens't work, then your option is to have Porsche replace the NAV CDROM

Had this exact same problem in my 01TT.
