Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I still haven't seen any new aftermarket shift knobs installed.. I need some ideas :drivingskid:

POST 2Original post

I concur... I really want something that would be hot looking in my car also. I need a reson to install a short shifter with it.

POST 3Original post

I think is pretty tough to just change the shift knob, as the stock version is a one piece including the boot. I know you can order different versions / options (ie: alu / wood/ carbon) from your Porsche dealer, but the cost is pretty high. Pretty sure that TechArt & others have similar stuff in their catalog.

POST 4Original post

I have the Optional aluminum shift knob from the factory. Real nice finish and its something different from the norm. I don't believe i know anyone or have seen any pictures where anyone else has this shift knob on their porsches. But here some shots

POST 5Original post

I have it and its great! But gets too hot to hold during summer temps!

POST 6Original post

As I recall that factory aluminum-look knob was insanely expensive wasn't it?

POST 7Original post

Isn't everything from the factory insanely expensive?

POST 8Original post

No, it isn't. The knob is several pieces, and the boot is a separate piece that is clipped to the bottom of the knob with a twist-ring. At least, that's how it is on the manual-tranny cars. Don't know about the auto-tranny Caymans, since I have never worked on one of those.

POST 9Original post

I nstalled a suede GT3 shift-knob/boot and I love it. Took about 5 minutes. Pretty idiotproof. G.

POST 10Original post

my aluminum knob was stated on the sticker as being $890....dont think i would've ordered it if i chose everything myself. We found the car at a dealership in New Jersey and had it shipped down

POST 11Original post

That aluminum shift knob kept me away from one the first Atlas Grey CS I saw. It was paired with the matching e-brake handle and was something like $1,650 for the two. I'd rather buy a short-shifter or apply those $ towards a cat-back...

POST 12Original post

I don't like the aluminum knob because it's so high. does anyone know if the techart knob sits lower than the stock knob?

POST 13Original post

i would LOVE to buy an aftermarket shifter knob

POST 14Original post

How about this one at Carnewal... This is the carbon shift knob from the P96 that is modified and attached to an original P97 shifter boot. Compared to most of the P97 shifter knobs, this shifter is made of real carbon and aluminum. For every P97, P87 or C7 with manual transmission. Replaces the original shifter. Easy installation with no modifications required. Assembled from factory parts.

POST 15Original post

wow that's pretty nice.. do u have that installed in your car?

POST 16Original post

For those that have participated in this thread linked here is a Group Buy that you should conceder for a shift-knob. zornet :burnout:

POST 17Original post

I got the cf knob from the Suncoast group buy for under $300 compared to same Carnewal knob for $400. Much more of a substantial feel than the OE knob.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
