Cars are road tested on pdi and to fuel , if a wheel is damaged it will have been refurbed locally and you would have no knowledge of it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 1 yr 981 with Carrera 20" wheels seems to have an issue with the NSF wheel where the paint seems to be very thin and wearing off (about 30% of the wheel). Is this common ? I only wash with a neutral shampoo and never anything acid based. The top coating does seem very thin. Will try to get a pic of it. Anyone else had any issues ?

POST 2Original post

Get opc to look at it , as long as its not been refurbished or damaged allowing water in then it should be covered under warrenty

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay, it's going in on Wednesday to get the faulty horn replaced. I'll ask them to look at it then.

POST 4Original post

No wearing issues, just stone chips, which I hate.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Porsche Edinburgh have taken some pictures and will send them to some other Porsche person. I'm awaiting the excuses. I'm thinking that they will try to say that I've driven through something or the likes. We'll see...

POST 7Original post

All they can say is its either been damaged allowing water in , which in a year is kinda impossible to cause that sort of damage or that it has been refurbished and not very well. As long as you havent refurbed the wheel then its not beyond the possible that the dealer did it before delivery. Cars are road tested on pdi and to fuel , if a wheel is damaged it will have been refurbed locally and you would have no knowledge of it.

POST 8Original post

Mine are 2 years old, not cleaned too often and only have stone chips. They even managed to change a tyre the other day without so much as a scratch (Front NS, 8.6k miles, bolt in it, £224, b ks), so yours looks like a manufacturing defect, assuming it's as delivered?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay, good to know that it's not something that 'just happens'. It's quite strange, as it seems just like the very top satin layer that's disappearing - leaving a darker, duller under-coat like the top coating is just washing away or thinning over time. The car was purchased from Porsche Leeds and Edinburgh have verified with them that the wheel has not been touched. My son had an issue with his Audi wheel de-laminating and I had a bit of hassle with them in trying to get it sorted out. As soon as I started going down the 'mis-sold warranty' route, they had it repaired within a week plus apologies. I do hope that this doesn't turn into a hassle, as this is my first Porsche and my experience so far has been pretty good.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car booked in to have this repaired under warranty on Monday. Hopefully it will be an end to the issue and the other wheels don't end up suffering the same. Also hope any refurb matches up...
