Was asked to start a thread- on this since I(and others) just noticed that my '02 C2, 6 speed ,N/A, gas pedal doesn't respond when you ride the brakes( as in going thru a large puddle to keep the brakes dry), or what about the heel /toe folks? I think late 996's w/ E-throttle are the culprits? Turbo's? Please add your Year-? Model-? Is yours like mine? Y/N? Buck

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

MY 2002, October build, 6 speed C4S. Nope, not like yours. Step on gas, it revs, regardless of whats happening with the brake or clutch. Since reading the earlier thread, actually tried it a few times, at varying speeds and gears. Did the heel-toe and left foot braking too. Works fine. I think your dealer is BS'ing you. Stepping on brakes should NOT cut out the gas on a performance vehicle. I can see it on a Volvo (though my Volvo doesn't do it too, and its an auto). Anyway, this thread shouls shed some light.
not me! my 2002 c32 amg did that--i hated it! it's nice to be back in a porsche!
not me.
Not me either. I do not think now with modern disc brakes it is necessary to ride them in a puddle to keep them dry, that was the technique with old drum brakes? Am I wrong?
My gas pedal works with brake no problem. 01-996 10/16/00 Finish Build Date
Silver, Old habits die hard, thats what started this whole thing though! I'll be wait for more replys-today, and then will try my salesman as he races one! Tried last night after another dealer said to try w/o PSM.. same deal..NO GO. Buck
Mine's a c4 tip and the gas always works.....PSM on or off.................
This maybe a reach but was there a TSB for ecu update with respect to variocam plus. I don't know if that applies but trying to offer some help. Regards. Mike
You have a problem! and better get it fixed so that you can heel & toe
Doesn't occur on mine either.
So, haven't exhaustively worked through the scenarios, but it seems like the gas in my 02 c4 cab (6-spd, Mar 02 build) does cut out under the following conditions: Speed is 50+ MPH - haven't tried at full stop or at slower speeds Moderate braking, enough to stop but far from threshold - tapping or light braking will not cause it PSM is on - haven't tried off, but if I remember correctly from other threads (I may not be), PSM activates when braking even if it's switched off. This seems consistent with Othello's post in the original thread. I assume the logic is that if you are trying to really stop, you don't need (shouldn't need) the gas. Jack

Jack

At the track I've been most recently to, there is a segment where you are braking like heck and downshifting from 4th to 3rd to 2nd, then turn-in/trail brake, then WOT. Heel-toe shifting a must otherwise you'll end up facing the wrong way. That's one instance you need all your braking power, and gas for the rev-matched down-shifts. PSM is on. I track with PSM ALWAYS on. Porsche being Porsche, the gas should not cut out. The one part I can see that happening is if PSM kicks in. At that point, the electonics take over and you are pretty much a passenger, since the PSM has now determined you didn't know what you were doing in the first place . I still believe that if gas cut out when you brake, dealer should look into it and remedy it, IMHO.
Brake + gas => no problem for mine. '02 Targa Mar. '02 Build
I am a Porsche/Audi saleman. I just took out a 2003 Boxster and a 2003 Carrera. Does not happen on either car, both manual shift. All Audi's will cut out the gas when on the brake, manual shift or Tiptronic.... Good Luck. ps. I like these real world tests....
OK, Gang! Is it safe to say.. What me an a few others have here appears to be a Flaw!?? Because I'm going to really be all over my dealer, come Monday!! In more than 9 months I've tracked the car once! No heel/toe stuff.. it was my first Porsche DE and I just wanted to have some fun. I've heel/ toed more in the last few days(than in 9 mo) since I noticed this (problem) but havn't had an area to really go @ it!( too many curbs & guard rails around the corners) for safty sake. I have noticed that I can match engine/tranny revs pretty good though!? Guess I need to have the dealer/s get me some answers. Our next 2 track dates are booked for my '91 C2 Track Meister!Where's my GT3? I'm suppossedly #3 on their list! Please post any news..as will I.
