Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check fluid level' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check appreciate response' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi - Wondered if anyone can help. I recently bought a 2001 996 cabrio from a main dealer. Two things: I have a rather annoying squeak coming from the passenger side door - when the window is down this goes away - I am guessing it is the window rubbing on the rubber of the soft top. I have tried applying silicone - but squeak still there - any suggestions. Secondly and when not driving the car for a few days the ABS and PSM light come on - this goes off after restarting the car - is this something to worry about, or just an intermitant fault. I rung the dealer and they said something about the battery and that small amount of charge going if not driven causing the lights to go off. Can anyone answer these? Thanks Apart from the issues I love it!!
No problem - new to all this - thought I was popular already!! Thanks for reply - so I can continue driving if not on? I guess if permanent problem then the lights would stay on all the time? Is MAF expensive to fix?
Well assuming it IS the MAF (air mass sensor - tells the car how much air is getting to the engine intake), you need to ascertain whether it is dirty, damaged or just loose connection.
If it is dirty you can carefully remove (it fixes on air-intake near air box) and wash with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) from Maplin etc. If it is broken you can get an OEM Bosch part for about £150 (or a lot more from Porsche), or if loose connection, refit it!
For washing see here:

Re ABS/PSM....check your brake lights. Could be as simple as a brake pedal switch. Was with me so easy fix and inexpensive part. All sorted in 15 minutes.
Hi Gents
have the same problem with my 2001 Carerra (not a cab) - initally it was on / off like yours .... but now it is on permanant ...... Ive had a OBD reader on the ECU plug under the passenger side dash, but this doesnt come up with anything (so im pressuming my MAF is ok ?????) ...... im not trying to hijack your post, but as we seem to have the same identical problem we may as well both input as we may well help each other ????
so - to help me trouble shoot also ...... just a few things from the posts
MAF sensor - do you know why this would casue the ABS/PSM light to come on ? isnt this an engine managment / fuel thing ? ...... and as mine is averaging about 18MPG maybe it is this ? (or is this normal fuel consumption for a 3.4 carerra around the doors  )
Wheel sensors (ABS Sensors) - how can you check if they are faulty ? ... can you put a meter across them ? voltages, resistance etc ?
brake lights - what am i looking for - do you mean if you have a brake light out this can cause the problem ? or is it a problem with the brake switch .... and if so what is the problem im looking for ?
Low Battery - this is one that it could be, as my porsche alarm randomly goes off, so the horm for the alarm has been disconnected and it just sits there with the indicators flashing away merrily to itself (i will fix this after ive done this snag !) quite often though the alarm hasnt gone off during the night and the PCM / ABS light is still on
I have disconnected the MAF plug to change the water pump a few weeks ago, but the light was on permanant before i touched this anyway ..... ive also checked the fluid level ....... im not painting a good picture of my car here am i !!!!!!
things ive thought of
do the brake pads have wear indicators on them ? ..... have i got low pads i wonder causing this ?
is there a ABS/PCM ECU somewher that i can test, read out, etc using some trick or method ?
are there other things in the system like - rear spolier switch ? handbrake swtich etc etc
all just thoughts ......... a wiring diagram would help if someone had one ???
im waffling now so ill go !
cheers
dave
P.s - great forum btw
