Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

The 911s had a gas filler flap that protected the fender from gasoline spills and damage from the pump. I always liked that feature. Performance Products mades reproductions which are quite inexpensive so I gave it a try and it works quite well. Does not intefere with the tightening of the gas cap or closing the fuel filler door. I did have to enlarge the hole to get it around the fuel fill neck. I ordered a straight flap for a 1973 vintage 911 . Here's a photo.

POST 2Original post

That's just crying out for a Cayman Club logo isn't it? Anyone know someone at a rubber manufacturing place? Maybe we could get some of these done up custom.

POST 3Original post

Yeah, I noticed a nice one yesterday at GRIOTS. It seems the flap on this one comes out longer. Wonder if it would be a fit for Cayman? http://http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?L1=L1_2500&L2=L2_2520&SKU=45533

POST 5Original post

I installed one of the Griot's flaps, and it works very well. It rolls up and stuffs neatly under the fuel filler neck.

POST 6Original post

The flap is a bit of an overkill IMO. On the early 911s , the flap protected the body; but the Cayman filler neck holds the nozzle well, without any risk to the body - but then, I always do my own fuel servicing. I also think that there isn't room for extra stuff under the filler cap, lest you might not have the cap go on right, triggering a CEL.

POST 7Original post

I've had the Griot's on since day one and no problem. I have the rubber piece on all of my cars. Just extra insurance since you cannot fill your own car in the state of Oregon. I guess us hillbilly's are just too dangerous to fill our own cars.

POST 9Original post

My 01 986 S had a flap standard, but I noticed that the Croc is without one...I might look into the Performance Products thing...
