This is not a probability of success.

My dealership had to "check" about this matter, then came back to me later that day with..well, Ok (rather reluctantly)...The aftermarket muffler (NOT downpipe, midpipe, headers, CAI or other) should be lighter in weight than the OEM muffler, and have a deeper tone throatier (note) at idle and at acceleration.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First off, I'm a noob to Porsche! I recently purchased a 2002 996 C4S black/natural leather interior car (1250+ miles). I can't believe the "hem & hawing" (spelling?) and negativism (correct spelling) that I encountered from a major NE Ohio dealership, mainly service dept. but also even my sales person. What's the deal? The car is not leased (it is an outright purchase) ...Is this a sports performance car, or what? I am actually incensed that I've been given all this S--- about a post-catalytic (Fabspeed) muffler repacement for my OEM muffler. My understanding is that 2 bolts and 2-4 nuts are involved in replacement-no actuator valves, electronics, etc. The muffler is purported to be of (high) quality construction, and per the Fabspeed web page doesn't affect my warranty. I am not purchasing for any putative HP gain (8HP?) which would only be icing on the cake, if true! I asked the dealer straight out if they were feeling any pressure from Porsche to steer (sell) the outrageously expensive $ 2400 Porsche Sports muffler?--to which he replied, No! I guess <there are dealerships and there are dealerships>. I went over 40+ miles to find this (available) great car, instead of ordering through a local (Canton, Ohio-Kempthorn Porsche) dealership-now I feel I made a major mistake. BTW, the local dealership is happy to serve me and no questions asked, they were instead helpful and, willing to install the Fabspeed muffler w/o the S--- I got from the larger, Porsche dealership in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area! Not exactly an auspicious start to what I was hoping to be a long-term relationship. I have owned many cars in the past including one venture into BMW (when younger), many Mercedes, including my curent 2002 SLK32 (stinking fast!) ( I'm thinking alot about the new E55) and, am awaiting return of my new day driver-2003 AWD subaru WRX Stage 2 Vishnu (~340+ HP); which will probably be my most fun car, and may turn out to be the fastest car of the lot-believe it or not! You can install the aftermarket exhaust yourself in a couple of hours with basic hand tools and mechanical aptitude.
