Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident.

Instead of "caping things off" i decided to kill two birds with one stone and use the tank connector and cap combined.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After alot of research and materials and some great help from GT4, i decided to try it out. Instead of "caping things off" i decided to kill two birds with one stone and use the tank connector and cap combined. This is what i mean. Normally, a 40mm tank connector with a blank plug is installed. Then a seperate blank nut to shut off air supply to the silencer box, aswell as blanking off the Y tube. However, i modified the tank connector to accept an internal cap and clamp the Y tube onto this, so its not flopping about. I managed to get it right down inside, and clamp it on, so it looks like it's untouched. So, the y tube is not modded, only the tank connector is. When the Y tube gets crushed onto my tank connector (replacing the silencer ) if forms a tight connection, stopping all air flow. The result? Rally car sound in every gear change + great grunt togeather with my exhaust roar! Togeather with my insane tuned exhaust  and the modded cold air intake system, low and behold. POST 2Original post

 My only concern with that route is there is still a slight cul-de-sac spur on the Y-pipe. In theory standing waves/venturi resonance occurs. This may sound nicer or not, I do not know, but ideally a smooth silicone style pipe should be fitted for aerodynamic efficiency of the intake air. But any performance modification from this mod (positive or negative) is negligible. A new panel filter may be beneficial though. I think the retention of the factory airbox route was a smart move, rather than removal and fitment of a K&N etc airbox. The cone based systems are not closed systems, so RAM air effect (positive intake pressure) would be lost for those of us with fixed spoilers and intake scoops.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, agreed. I am actually on my way out now to get a special cap, so i can place in the top end of the "Y" pipe so its one nice smooth ride down t the airbox. I am going to buy the new filter from design911 too to place inside my airbox for optimal performance/sound. BMC BMC Air Filter for Porsche 996 / 997 BMC air filters are designed and produced to ensure a higher air flow than original paper filters. In F1, for example, BMC cotton filters minimize the loss of air flow pressure passing through the air filter; this way ensures the best conditions for full exploitation of maximum power. Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident. Also, what do you think of the Ram System Vortex Generator from design 911, you think it will do much good ?

POST 4Original post

Not sure I would trust a cap not to get sucked in the the throttle body from there. COBBLERS!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got my mate to take it for a spin around the area so i can listen to it. Man, i could hear it echoing around the streets, "GRUUUUM!!! HISSSS, (2ND) GRRRUUUUUUUUUM HISSS! (3RD).. it was epic! :sing:
