Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Right - had enough of this, PLEASE HELP!!
Bought my first 911 - a '98 996 C2, as I've wanted a 911 forever. Had it for about 3 months and it's never been quite right. It's starting to p!ss me off now, and I just want that 'first-time porsche owner' smile back on my mush.
When I floor the accelerator, it starts to speed up, then starts misfiring, then the emission warning light starts flashing, as though it's not getting the right mix of fuel, be that too lean or rich. When I steadily hold the accelerator, the light stays on without flashing. However, it will not get past about 115mph - just runs out of puff.
I had the car serviced after this started - spark plugs replaced, oil and filter change, air filter change, fuel filter change = Still the same...
Today, I've replaced the ignition coils and it does seem slightly smoother, though the above symptoms all still apply. I can warm the engine up and rev it smoothly right through the rev range when the car is stood still, but still have the 'running out of puff' and misfire on sharp acceleration problems.
Am I missing something, or should I just bite the bullet and book it into Hartech? :dont know:
Cheers
Umm, let me get this right, it's misfiring and losing power yet you still take it to 115mph?!
It's probably something simple like the MAF but please, for the love of God, get it diagnosed properly!
Yeah, thanks.
I was kinda hoping some of you generals etc might have a few ideas what it could be before letting go with the cheque book. I aint a rich bloke!
Would the MAF sensor not affect revving when stood still?
Get some electrical contact cleaner and try that first. Have a read of this...

But you really should get those fault codes read...

I cleaned mine once, reved it and lots of black gunk came shooting out. Now it stopped search reving and doesnt splutter and try to konk out anymore.
Im going to replace my MAF next week anyway, but its well worth it.
It could be any number of things causing it, and you are shooting in the dark without knowing the fault codes. Any local garage should have a diagnostic tester which will read out the codes. I'm sure you could find someone who would do it for a few quid. Once you have the codes, post them here.
similar to mine. I had mine read about 3 months ago and it said something similar. I spoke to a tech guy and said that because they are so close to the ground they get damaged. He told me there was no real serious issue and to get them done soon.
Or something like that, it was a while ago haha.
As I said earlier, the car rev's great when standing still - no sign of misfire or anything. Will the OBD read a problem when the car is standing still, when the fault only seems to occur under load?
