Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Brake squeak is usually a build up of brake pad dust - perhaps your drive around town allows build up of dust, a thrash (or clean?) may blow it away...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have noticed that when crusing around town, the brakes will squeak a little bit... Is this normal, or should I have it checked ?... Perhaps the shims that are missing... :eh!:

POST 2Original post

Are they relatively new? do they not get used often...?? are they standard discs and pads?? more info would help...

POST 3Original post

I had the same issue last week having spent 2 weeks just pootling in central London, however had a good blast out to the county over the weekend and they have miraculously gone quiet again! Sure some one will be able to explain why but a bit of a thrash seems to solve it, that is provided that you still have lots of pad left??

POST 4Original post

I think it can happen when they get hot. However, if there is dry mud on the discs that can cause a noise.

POST 5Original post

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They are not new, and I drive the car hard, but not that often, once or twice a week. No rust is nor dirt is visible. I might want to check the pads..... But the car had a major service done only 2000km ago, so I am sure that they would have told me if the pads were due to be changed.. Mind you the noise is not loud, more a mild squeak that I do not think is very becoming..

POST 7Original post

Jester911 pretty much summed it up. The brakes do squeel from time to time. When I fitted a new set of disks and pads last year - they were fine for a few weeks, then I went through a period of about a month when they were squeeling at low speed. I wore through it and eventually it disappeared.... maybe take the wheels off and check the holes in the discs are not blocked, some minor maintenance is always a good idea anyway.... :thumb:
