Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok at the moment im feeling a bit disheartened with my 996 as i have a problem with the PSE, its going into the garage to get it sorted tomorrow and once its done i think i might trade it for something newer and with warranty, i was thinking maybe a BMW 3 series Msport convertible or an 3.2 Audi TT. I went into the BMW garage yesterday and nearly passed out when they valued my 911 at 14.5K for a trade in!!! My car is a very very clean carrera 4 2001 lapis blue facelift with PSE its got 72k on the clock and full service history having just had a full service. Ive done a valuation using my mobile phone and it was valued at 21.5k. Im basically just pissed off and im venting LOL . What would be a good price for a trade in ??

POST 2Original post

how dis-heartening...!! the only time I ever traded in a car against a purchase, was when I swapped out my BMW 330 sport, for my first 4S cab. The OPC offered me £14.5k, when they were selling at circa £20k. We spent the whole day at the dealership, eventually, I secured £18.5k from them, and I spent just over £70k on my first porsche. They can do it - if they want to, but most of them are just plain greedy and want to earn at least £3k - £5k on the resale of your car. Sell it private and take the time to get what she's worth...

POST 3Original post

its best to look at this a different way rather than the cost of yours or the cost of the new car - work on the delta between the 2 and bringing that down to a level that is acceptable.

POST 4Original post

The other thing to bear in mind with franchised dealers is that they need to play it safe, particularly when they are taking in a car they cannot sell on their forecourt as in this case (BMW dealer witha Porsche car). They usually dispose of thse cars in 3 ways 1. If it is a fairly new car, underwrite the car with a franchise dealer for that make or a used car dealer they have a relationship with -> this will give them a firm price on your part-ex which could be more than the valuation and pass on the benefit to you. 2. Underbid on it and then hope a trader buys it off them for the price they gave you or a little more 3. Send it to auction and hope for the best In both 2 and 3, they will underbid the trade price in case they do not get the trade price, particularly as they will want to move the car on quickly and therefore take less. I suspect your car falls into those latter two cases. Also, I would imagine you would struggle to sell a 2001 996 with 72k miles privately for £21k. As the previous poster said though - the real cost is the difference between your car and their car - maybe work on driving the price down of their car

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so what price would you say i would fetch for it? ?

POST 6Original post

Just put it up for sale with a good ad on here and pistonheads. Id say 18 k. It will sell for what it is worth at the end of the day, there are many up for 21k but doesnt mean they are selling, and there are many private buyers looking for a FSH facelift 996- so easy to sell, forget dealers! I sold a 996 cab 2000 non facelift six months ago with lower miles than yours for 17,500 within 2 days of putting up for sale. But facelifts are much more sought after.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advise looks like ill sell it privately then, ill be sad to see it go but its not very practical for me anymore.

POST 8Original post

IMO the BMW dealer is taking the proverbial unless its a cat D/C car or is in a bad state. Stick it on ebay......you will get £17/£18k all day if it's nice car.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its really tidy with FSH and ive even just had all the wheels fully refurbed and new centre caps, so it looks absolutely mint, and recently had new clutch and both RMS and auxillary shaft seal done, as well as a full service done about 2 months ago. Im speaking to a mate tomo thats in the trade ill see if he can shift mine and source me a car as well. Im not gonna get stressed out about it, if needs be ill just keep it and drive it for the rest of my life. LOL

POST 10Original post

Go for it...lots of 911 owners often regret selling up for another marque :thumb:

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok after looking at the other options i dont think i wanna sell it when it comes down to it. . . im thinking that a Porsche 911 is always and special no matter what age it is. i might keep it forever and buy another car for a daily driver. Did you get yourself a GT2 Wizard ??
