Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'blow off pipe' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'blow off pipe' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill reservoir all' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Likewise, when I went to fill the reservoir all that happened was that water poured out, the same as you.

So I popped the bonnet and started to fill up the bottle after a while of filling water started to come from the bottom and flowing from the underside of the passenger door, but not overflowing the top of the bottle.

Suggestion
As the system wasn't filling with water, the warning light stays on (although I could get enough in for the washers to work for quite a while).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have what I am hoping is a simple question/problem
After owning our 996 for about a month the washer fluid light came on the dash. So I popped the bonnet and started to fill up the bottle after a while of filling water started to come from the bottom and flowing from the underside of the passenger door, but not overflowing the top of the bottle.
With my huge technical knowledge bank ie: guess work! I decided Porsche must have fitted some kind of overflow prevention valve and so left it at that.
However a week on the light is back on so my wife done as described and the same happened.
Am I missing something ? Do they all do that? Or do I need to get off my arse and go look to see if something is disconnected ?!
Please help

Hi, this happened to my '99 Cab.
In my case, over the years the system became full of gunge so that eventually when the washers were operated the pressure blew a pipe connection, rather than squirt water onto the windscreen.
Likewise, when I went to fill the reservoir all that happened was that water poured out, the same as you. As the system wasn't filling with water, the warning light stays on (although I could get enough in for the washers to work for quite a while). If you have headlamp washers they won't work either as the water level in the reservoir won't be high enough.
Didn't seem too difficult for the dealer to fix, somebody here will no doubt tell you how DIYable it is to fix - the biggest pain was driving around with the orange warning light on!
Probably a blow off pipe.
Less likely, but possible, cracked tank.
You need to remove passenger side front wheel and wheel arch liner and it is in there.

Thanks for the replies I will have a look at that later, especially thanks for the diagrams I had a quick look earlier and it wasn't clear how to get to it so that's really helpful,
The strange thing is the washers work fine as do the headlamp washers it's just the filling up that baffles me.
Thanks again
Tony
