Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When they came in and were installed, one of those units (left) wouldn't adjust (they light up just fine, it's just that they point about 2 feet in front of the car), so they put my old units back and said they'd order another left unit and we'd do it again.

If it's anything like others it uses a vehicle height sensor, a simple potentiometer, varable resister to detect the wheel/frame distance front and rear.

Yesterday I went in, they installed the re-ordered unit and IT didn't work either.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I got my 2001 996 Cab in August and took it immediately to the dealer for the one year inspection. The Litronic headlight units would not adjust. So they ordered two new units under warranty. When they came in and were installed, one of those units (left) wouldn't adjust (they light up just fine, it's just that they point about 2 feet in front of the car), so they put my old units back and said they'd order another left unit and we'd do it again. Yesterday I went in, they installed the re-ordered unit and IT didn't work either. SO, either these units are getting damaged in shipping or there may be something else that's wrong and the dealer isn't aware of it. Has anyone gone through anything similar or can anyone shed any light (sorry) on this situation?
I'm continually amazed at the cumulative knowledge of this webforum and consider it a tremendous resource for us owners. That's why I've joined, and I hope you will too. Thanks for any help you can give me! <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />
I have not heard of this before. If the 2nd set didn't work (both sides? or just one?) I would think they would be looking at the headlight mounting plate. These usually don't have to be touched unless there was some damage or an accident... but it might be posssible for the alignment/mounting screws on these to come loose and cause problems. There is a procedure in the Technical Manual to align the mounting plates and properly torque the nuts.
I'll bet that's what it is. They got the right side to work, but not the left. The car was spun off the road by the previous owner not bending any sheet metal, but busting up the bottom pretty well--including shearing off all the nuts holding the oil pan in place--ouch. I know they had to realign the roll over bars because the hardtop wouldn't fit, so I suspect it moved that plate as well. I'll inform my dealer. Thanks! I knew you guys could do it!
Ah, the bottom...
If it's anything like others it uses a vehicle height sensor, a simple potentiometer, varable resister to detect the wheel/frame distance front and rear. These are input to each of the headlamps so they can remain "level" even if the front trunk and gas tank are full.
The RX300 only uses one, mounted in the back, just above the axle itself, exposed too....
