Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi All, I am new porsche boxster owner, and recently I heard a noise that is somewhat troublesome. Whenever I start up high pitch squealing noise occurs for about 1 second then goes away. It happens only when the car is being started otherwise it runs fine with no noise. Thoughts? Thanks Desperado

POST 3Original post

i have same issue on 2003 just squeals for 1 secat start then its ok. i figured it only does it when cold... someone?

POST 4Original post

A fan belt would be my idea. Had a 1996 Ford Explorer here on the ranch. Same thing. So with my "common sense" got out the WD-40 and took care of the problem. I know, don't yell at me but was trying to kill it anyway. Sold it to a young lady for one dollar and it still runs and most likely on the same belt, three years later. Darn you can't kill those cars!

POST 5Original post

There was actually a TSB that a bad piston was used in replacement oil pumps that could cause this as well. If you're still on your stock oil pump, never mind.

POST 6Original post

You might also want to check vacuum hoses for leaks. I had the same issue on my Audi TT and it turned out some hoses had cracked. The noise probably came about when the secondary air injection systems turned on when engine was cold. Does your idle bounce or did your gas mileage change? These were other symptoms of my vacuum hose issue.

POST 7Original post

My first guess would be a slipping belt. Not worth harping about it, go see the dealer.
