At a complete stop at idle, i can hear a whirling noise. It almost sounds like a medium pitched bird. The noise is very rhythmic, it's always the same pattern like this (the high spots are the noise)..:::....:::....:::...:::...:::...:::... The noise does not get louder when i slowly rev the engine You can't hear it from the outside at idle. Has to be inside with the windows up Edit::just as i was pulling into my parking lot, the noise became more persistent. It wasn't going in and out, it was constant.

The first thing I'd check is your water pump. Mine made a whirring noise that just kept getting louder until it was screaming like a banchee. Once checked, there was only a minor leak but the water pump bearings were shot. Had it replaced and all was good in the world again.:cheers:

dealer thinks it's a bad fuel pump. they're replacing it under warranty.

Just got my car back and the dealer replaced the high pressure fuel pump. Weird noise is now gone, although the noise of the new fuel pump seems louder than the last.
