Hey guys,
so today while driving i noticed this strange thumping noise coming from my right front area of the car. It makes this noticeable noise at speed around 25-30 Mph. if i go slower down to 5-10 MPH i no not notice it. I asked my neighbor who works on hot rods to take a ride with me to see what he thinks, at first he thought maybe it was the tire. Maybe the tire became out of balance? but as we were driving down our street back to my house he noticed that when my suspension hit a bump he noticed the sound more profoundly. So he may think it is also the suspension? the car handles perfectly no lose steering or un-alignment. when i turn the car it feels no different. The last time i drove the car was Friday, and i did not notice any unusual sounds.
I had Bilstein PSS9 coil-overs installed back in November, and had no issues since. car has 20,900 miles on it in mint condition. Any ideas? i may take it to a Porsche mechanic Friday, cause this is driving me nuts.
86 people viewed this, and not one person might have an idea what it could be? sweet..
Does the thump get faster/slower as your speed increases/decreases?
sort of some times it will get louder then muffle off , then stop completly.
Bad strut mount?

Well it's either going to be something wrong with the wheel/tire, or something wrong with the suspension. If the sound is in rhythm with the tire rotating, then your problem is flat spotted or out-of-balance tire, maybe out-of-round wheel, or maybe bad wheel bearing.
If the sound is not in rhythm with rotation, start looking at all of the suspension pieces: shocks, shock mounts, sway bar links, etc.
Swap the front tires. If the thump moves to the left, you know its not suspension parts. If it stays on the right, you know its not the tire.
PorscheinNOLA,
did you manage to find the cause? have a look here, for some possible areas...

I had a similar thumping noise in the front at low speeds, over slight bumps like transitions at streets, driveways, etc. It was the LCAs. No thumping noise now and everything feels a lot tighter. $800 at my indy.

I'm taking it in today to the shop. Been on a work trip for 2 weeks. I'll let ya know what they say.
Just got back from my local indy shop. So it was not anything suspension related at all. come to find out when i put my new tires on i did not have the correct torque on the lug nuts. the Porsche mechanic said i should of had 110 ft lbs and only had 90. so basically the wheels were lose, and that was what was causing the tire sound and odd thumping.
i feel like an idiot, but it cost me nothing, as he said he would not charge me
