Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

My 09 Boxster s seems to have a small coolant leak issue. When I acquired the car last year I noticed the coolant was a little low so I topped it off. Over the course of the year it bled about 300ml during 4k miles of usage. Judging by the amount it was low the first time I would say the leak is consistent and doesn't appear to be changing in volume at any appreciable clip. Does anyone have any ideas to the most likely culprit? I am planning on taking it into the shop this weekend but I am torn on whether this is going to be something serious or if its just a leaky fitting/line.

Get it on a lift/ramp/jack-stands and look. It's impossible to diagnose this with so little info. There's lots of places it could leak besides the water pump. For example - while changing my oil last year I noticed lots of pink crust on the hose on the left front of the engine. It just needed a new rubber seal in the hose connector ($5 part). Yours may be something simple too, but you can't tell without looking. Other common sourcse of coolant loss are the 2 filler caps - one next to the oil fill and one under the engine cover on the expansion tank. Look for signs of dried coolant.
