Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

If it were me, I would take it to a good indy and have them check or change the oil so that you can monitor it in the knowledge that it is correctly filled.

Suggestion

It doesn't appear to be using oil, but I've only done 500 miles in it - the oil gauge shows it full over the top line, is that "full" or "possibly over-full"

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

EDIT>>>>> Just realised I put this in 981 instead of 987, can it be moved? Hi All, first post So, I bought a 2007 2.7 Cayman about a month ago, and was already aware that they suffer from a bit of smoke on startup. However.... this seems to smoke HEAVILY (white) say 1-in-6 times I start it, with no obvious set of circumstances. It is only on the initial start, one chuff of smoke and it clears and drives perfectly cleanly and normally. So I'm thinking: - Is it over-filled? How can I tell? - Is the AOS starting to break down and drop lumps of goo into the intake? It doesn't appear to be using oil, but I've only done 500 miles in it - the oil gauge shows it full over the top line, is that "full" or "possibly over-full" This morning, I had left it for nearly a week without starting and was fully expecting a cloud - nothing! clean as a Tesla. I don't have any problems with a bit of smoke at all personally, but what worries me is - is it likely to damage the cats?

POST 2Original post

Firstly, hi and welcome. It is possible that it is overfilled as the e-gauge should read max on the line below the top, NOT the top. AOS can really go at any time so that is also possible but generally will cause smoking all the time and lots of it. If it were me, I would take it to a good indy and have them check or change the oil so that you can monitor it in the knowledge that it is correctly filled.

POST 3Original post

Agree with Trev, it's most likely overfilled. If you're a DIYer, easiest way to remove a small amount of oil is to remove the filter cannister and dump out what's in there.
