Had it changed twice under warranty and it was still noisy so gave up in the end and covered 40K miles like it until I sold it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Did some searching and it seems like this issue is well documents with both the 986 /987 and the 996. Based on what I've read it sounds like it's probably the throwout bearing or clutch release fork? Anyone else have any thoughts or experience? I'm fairly sure it's not the helper spring under the dash. The noise is noticeably louder after the car is hot and it's definitely coming from behind the cabin and under the car (It's much louder with the door open). The other side of things is, assuming it is the clutch release fork/throwout bearing, is there any reason I should do a clutch job simply because of this? The clutch isn't slipping, and unless it's going to fail catastrophically and damage something I have no reason to do a $1500 clutch job to eliminate a noise. It's hardly noticeable with the car running. The car only has 31k miles on it, and it's new to me. Just picked it up a couple weeks ago. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

It's more than likely to be the throw out (or thrust bearing as we call them in the UK) . Not something to even consider changing until the transmission is dropped for whatever reason. I had a 350Z from new a few years back and the throw out bearing was noisy when hot from day one. Had it changed twice under warranty and it was still noisy so gave up in the end and covered 40K miles like it until I sold it.

+1 with Trev on this one. Assuming the clutch is still good, save it for when you do the clutch job.
