To fix it, I used black electrical tape to hold the two panels together in as inconspicuously as possible.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi all -- like so many Cayman owners, the interior of my car had developed an annoying squeak/rattle that was driving me nuts; it actually took away from the enjoyment of driving the car, at least when the temperature was below 65. After numerous tries at figuring it out -- taping various plastic trim pieces, putting felt pads in different points of friction, etc. -- I finally nailed it: it was the third brake light assembly. Not sure why I didn't try that earlier. To fix it, I used black electrical tape to hold the two panels together in as inconspicuously as possible. It's amazing how much more pleasurable driving the car is now with no annoying hatch squeak. Still, electrical tape isn't exactly a permanent solution. Has anyone figured out a way to improve upon the third brake light assembly in a way that it won't squeak anymore? I mean, other than using tape to keep the two pieces from rubbing together...

POST 2Original post

The 3rd brake light was rattling on my 07 CS, so I stuck a large white drinking straw btwn the light and the window. Not elegant but less obvious than black electrical tape.
