The quality of work being carried out is excellent, progress is very slow, this is due to the wait for parts from Porsche.

Had a hernia operation and didnt think their personal injury policy would cover me, yet after a month I called them after the missus insistence (she used to work for Allianz) and they said yep no problem, had a bloke come out to check me out after the operation (the massive bruise and unable to walk kinda told him I wasnt bullshitting) and they backdated payments to the day it was diagnosed and given a lump sum, and I always had regular payments for 4 months without question.

I have found them good to deal with so far and competitive when I've price checked my policies.

I have also claimed windscreens on 2 cars so far, replaced without question under insurance, cost just over $2K each, fitted by PCW with genuine Porsche screens.

They are not so much worried about the cost side of things, rather make sure the car is getting repaired properly.

I've changed my 2nd car from A to B and it was seemless & I claimed my 1 free windscreen repair earlier this year and again easy peasy!
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

he said it's two things: they just get far fewer accident claims on classic cars and the repair cost per accident on older cars is consistently lower because they are so much simpler (no complex electronics, sensors, etc).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I see there's a forum topic for insurance, but it's empty. I was wondering if there's been a "which insurance/company is best" thread, could someone point me to it if they know of it?
Soo... which insurance is best? Who do you recommend?
One thing I've been wondering about - what do you do when you're not at fault, but have better insurance than the person who hit you?
I wasn't able to create a new post in the insurance topic... I don't know why.
I found Shannons crazy expensive
RACV offer agreed value 1/3 their worth
Porsche are too arrogant to call you and just email to say call us
Lumley special vehicles seem decent
Really need to read the PDS as they have all recently changed.
Racv after all these years don't mention that you now don't have choice of repairer unless you pay an extra $100 premium!!!
A lot don't have true choice of repairer. IE their policy will say something along the lines of you have choice of repairer unless we deem the quote too expensive than we will get a 2nd quote from "our repairer" They then cash settle you on that amount and say go out and pay for your own repairs.
I wouldn't recommend any insurance company under the Suncorp or IAG brands.
If you are not at fault you are always better going through a panel shop that deals in doing 3rd party recovery of the other parties insurance. What that means is an independent assessor is used to assess the damage and quote. They are not so much worried about the cost side of things, rather make sure the car is getting repaired properly. New parts are authorised straight away. When going through your own insurance, they all stipulate that as soon as it is out of warranty, used and recondition parts will be used. I classify a car 3 years old still a new car. Insurance don't!
I would recommend Zurich, Famous, Eric, Allianz and QBE. Their is a couple of small other companies that are ok as well.
Qbe you have to be carefull though as they have various policy's.
A broker is a good option as well as they find a policy that suits you and if there is any problems they sort the insurance company out straight away. Insurance companies hate brokers.
Disclaimer i have my own panel shops and deal with a wide range of insurance companies day in day out.
Hope that helps.
Agreed Shannons is exy. I went with RYNO Insurance. My 944 is $60 per month for 27k atm. Your choice of repairer & if it's written off you get the carcass.
You must be the crappest and riskiest driver in Australia!!!
I am also insured with Ryno ... 2 cars, $120k split between the 2 and probably pay the same premium ....
To be fair (take it while you can) they are on historic rego
Still .... they must like me more than you!!
Great and poignant topic for me right now. I currently have my 1970 2.2s with RACV Vintage but 3 day cars with Shannons. They asked to take over the Porsche but the premium is $1,000 pa more, although the excess is half. They are both prepared to agree to the same value. Ultimately I want to make sure I can fix it properly if something does go wrong. Can anyone recommend a good classic car broker? I might try Lumley and Porsche too...
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You must be a youngen, as mine on the 911 is $48/m on $70k with Shannons. That will change to half that when I get it on club rego
Asked around a few companies, but Shannons were the best deal
Im with Shannons, $550 pa for $100k cover which is very good, not on historic yet (car must be 35 years old). Ive also just had an incident that did not involve anyone else so I guess that makes it my fault. The car requires about $40k in repairs which has been authorised, all new parts where specified, my choice of repairer (even changed my mind after the car was delivered to another repairer, Shannons paid for the car to be re-located). Ive had to pay a $300 excess which is cheap. Unfortunately it took a month to go through the quoting and getting the authorisation and now a 6 week wait to get the car back.
It appears that there is a hurdle with which assessor you get landed with, the one that assessed my car was very reasonable (ex panel beater).
My premium will change after this as I will go to a rating 2 driver which will cost me a 10% premium ($55) per year.
Very happy with Shannons. My car is being sorted by RSR Motorsport (Mark Poole)
I JUST WANT MY CAR BACK
Shannons too, and they have been great to deal with, especially when my last car was a total loss. How the company is when making a claim is quite important, they paid out on agreed value (even though this was way above market value).
There now appears to be a lot of insurance threads about, all pretty much saying the same thing.....
I have my house and cars with Shannons. Claimed twice on house and once on my daily driver (after hitting a kangaroo). I have found them good to deal with so far and competitive when I've price checked my policies.
Ok thanks chaps, good info and it seems that Shannons comes well-recommended.
Does anybody know what happens if you get into an accident (not at fault) and the other person's insurance is crap? Do you just suck it up and pay the excess to use your company or is there some work-around where you can use your insurance without paying the excess?
Two things here.
If you are claiming of the other parties insurance, you normally would go to a quality panel shop that will handle all the recovery process. You don't actually deal with there insurance till the end when they come to inspect the finished vehicle.
I use a recovery agent that will send a letter of demand to the at fault insurer. Once we receive in writing liability admitted, we appoint an independent assessor who will assess my quote and vehicle. The independent assessor isn't worried so much about cost but rather that the vehicle is returned back to pre-accident condition ie new parts used and correct paint process used. We then carry out repairs and take a photo's of the whole process to prove the work has been carried out. We send all the photos along with the assessed quote for the other parties insurance company to pay. If they refuse to pay or short fall their offer to much we will take them to court to recover monies owing. None of that is at no cost to owner. We also get a hire car covered by the other party for the duration of repairs at no cost to our customer.
Some people prefer to just lodge their claim with their own insurance, your's being Shannons (owned by suncorp). You shouldn't have to pay an excess if you can provide details of the at fault. Suncorp have started charging their own customers the excess even though not at fault and say "if we can recover the money we will rebate your excess" Does the money ever get rebated? I can't answer that.
Unfortunately I am putting Shannons to the test again as some idiot crashed into my Merc on Wednesday...... still to be determined whether it will be repaired or a write off..... so far been good to deal with.... just want a resolution now!
After I had my little off road excursion it took 2 weeks to quote the repair then a further 2 weeks to get the all clear by Shannons. The initial 2 weeks was partly due to a slow response by Porsche Centre for my parts (84 Carrera) the second 2 weeks comprised of the assessor going over the figures, then as it was over his pay grade, bumped up to the next inline, being over that persons pay grade up it went again (all taking time) the final person was away on business for a couple of days. Now I am waiting for the parts to come from over seas.
My car was written off on Tuesday (well over $40k in repairs, can't quite get my head around that....) so hopefully will have money in next couple of days. Shopping for new car now.....
@ANF
Sorry to hear about your car, whats on the shopping list?
I'm with MB Group through Porsche insurance, limited kms to 5,000 per year which is all I need.
They have been good to deal with.
Went with LSV - Lumley Special Vehicle Insurance - $1366 premium with $1400 excess for 911 997.2 S - Choice of repairer, NCB protected, over 40, no track
Shannons, NRMA, Budget Direct - around $2400-2500 premium with $1400-$2000 excess
Hope this helps.
Ummmm.....nah.....that would be me!
After a little "issue" with my license... most insurers wouldn't go near me, or wanted a kings ransom - on a $13500 Boxster!
Even Ryno, who I were previously with with my 911, were going to put heaps on a premium.
in the end Famous were really cool about it, and pricing very reasonable.
Best bit, add a $100 bucks per event for $10,000 cover for track days!
Further to the above, I visited the crash shop today (as I do every Monday) to get a report on progress. The quality of work being carried out is excellent, progress is very slow, this is due to the wait for parts from Porsche. My car is a 3.2 Carrera, the left hand front guard and the right hand strut assembly are both ex Germany, no stock here in Australia. These parts are due this Wednesday the 28th, thats 5 weeks since ordering , the car still has to be painted. A few more weeks wait yet I guess.
I am posting this so that PFA members are aware its not just about the insurance but the scarcity of the parts therefore a large time delay in getting the car back. Of course new Porsche parts are preferred which my insurer (Shannons) prefers to pay for. Dansk are out of stock for the fender, as an alternate supplier.
The use of original manufacturer parts possibly explains why Porsche parts are so pricy, they can get away with it with the insurers.
That's a bit shitty! Long wait for the quoting!? Makes my recent crash seem a little less bad... still waiting for my new to me Merc to arrive, may be this week or next...
Hopefully you have another car you can drive.
Similar. Have been with the majority of insurance companies over the years, i think its about finding the right one for your specific car at the time.
08 997.1 4S agreed value $110k no crash history, Shannons over $2k everyone else around the $2.5 mark, i am now with Famous for this car $1400 with $700 excess up to 10,000kms per year and monthly payments at no additional cost.
cheers
Just got a comp quote Shannons and
Famous Insurance Famous insured for more and $460 shannons $890 seems like Famous is a good
option anyone have any exp with Famous ?
Yep with them now, good so far seem to get the whole P car thing. I just called them to change storage address for my car and they have listed both home and storage on the policy, and there was no price change to my policy, more boutique business which i see as more personal, but have never made a claim.
cheers
JB
I just received a quote from famous. They offered to insure my car for $40k with a $400 excess for $541.42. ($46 per month) The big difference is that unlike RYNO (my current insurer) you don't get to keep the carcass after a total loss/ write off. I assume you can purchase it back of course. Depends if there are expensive recoverable items.
Ryno is currently $681p/a - for $27k cover.
has anyone made a claim with any of the others aside from Shannons? and were you happy with the work?
the couple of times I've made a claim with Shannons they try and direct you to their repairer, but when i remind them i have repairer of choice in my policy it's like a light bulb comes on and they remember it's a thing!
Before my car was written off Shanons did mention a repairer that was closer to my home, twice, this was after I said where I wanted it to go. I think it is just something they have to say. It is never going to sway where my car will go.
Car was written off so a mute point.
My 2 write off claims in just over 2 years they have been very good, I was very proactive in that I contacted them to chase things up. Monies were transferred very easily for exactly what the agreed value was.
I notice that Ryno appears to require its customers to use O'Brien glass if they claim for a windscreen breakage. Unclear in the PDS what happens if a customer prefers to go elsewhere (eg, Porsche dealer or performance car glass specialist). Choice of repairer is spelled out for normal accidents but not for windscreens. I'd be quite worried about what type of windscreen Ryno would install in my car— eg, genuine replacement versus a cheap piece of Chinese glass.
https://rynoinsurancedirect.com.au/news/car-insurance/a-ryno-top-tip/
Funny you should ask, I'm with ryno and called them up just last week to repair a stone chip I got from our run down to the flinders car show. If the repair was not possible, they said they'd replace it - free. Yes, o'brien is their preferred installer and you get one freebie each year on windscreens. I didnt want a replacement as I was fearful of it not quite fitting in an old car and I'd lose my sunvisor decal too, so the repair went ahead and all good.
I'll call them tomorrow and check for you as I still have all the paperwork and reference number of the call. But I'm pretty sure they would source a genuine part... whether o'brien has to do it or not - not sure on that. I'll check. Report back.
Just called
Ryno Insurance
and they told me they are no longer insuring Porsches except for classic cars (older than 25 years)
I got quotes from Porsche Insurance, Famous and Shannons. All within $100 of each other although the excess varied from $1,250 to $,1850.
Had a chat with the Shannons guy about the strange fact that my 71S has a higher insured value than my new Porsche but the insurance premium is a fraction . . . he said it's two things: they just get far fewer accident claims on classic cars and the repair cost per accident on older cars is consistently lower because they are so much simpler (no complex electronics, sensors, etc).
Ryno said the same when they quoted me low $$ on my car too!!
So spoke to Ryno today, they said I get 2xrepairs and 1xreplacement per yr. so I had the option to replace even though window is repairable- good news that!!
They couldn't answer me - will call me back on:(stay tune):
Q: can I replace with a P original glass if I do a replace? (Not a cheap copy they might wanna pick)
Q: does o'brien have to do the work - their preferred supplier? Can I choose?
Probably unfair because they are a separate legal entity and are regulated by APRA, but I was put off by the fact that Enthusiast is the automotive brand of AssetInsure.
AssetInsure's parent company, CBL Insurance Group, was just put into liquidation by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand because they mis-managed their underwriting risk and weren't holding enough capital against future insurance claims.
https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/au/news/breaking-news/business-as-usual-for-cbls-grown-up-kid-94378.aspx
Been a long time customer with Shannon's. Agreed value, only $12 per / M more than my old bogan Commodore I also had with them. I guess, policies will differ for many individual circumstances. And, despite most of us being relatively happy with our cover, we can only hope that our insurers are there for us when & if we ever need them!
Just going through a claim with Shannons at the moment. All good so far, no issues when repairer wanted to replace the centre radiator when he pulled everything off the car. Hopefully car ready for pickup tomorrow. This one my fault (only accident I've ever had where I hit someone else in 40 years of driving....), hopefully premium increase won't be too bad next year - $10500k + repair
?
Sorry to hear! Hope you're alright. Which car? Assuming 996 as your manual boxster wouldn't have a 3rd rad but the tip would? All good if you're not keen on discussing.
No probs Dan, just a little roundabout oops - new bumper, bonnet LH Headlight unit ($2100 would you believe!!) + now the radiator + a few other clips etc. ABS failure light had come on earlier that morning as I left a servo after a fillup, brakes tested OK, but looks like there may have been a problem, as I'd almost stopped and then it was if I'd hit a patch of ice, and ran into the back of car in front (who had stopped early for another car rather than keeping going as I had anticipated, I was stopping for the other car - my bad....). Only good thing is I have arranged to keep the old headlight (minor chip out of one corner), centre radiator (crushed fins in a small area) and bonnet crest.
Interesting though, talking to my mechanic yesterday about it, he said he had heard similar circumstances called "Porsche Ice Pedal", although he hadn't heard of it happening to a 996. He was aware of an identical description of circumstances from one of his Targa Tasmania Cayman customers, with the driver saying he had to take his foot off the brake and re-apply and it went away. He's just spent 4 days doing measurements and calibrations for a custom ABS system for that car.
Anyway, when I get the car back he's going to do my oil change and check it all out.
Well good to hear you're alright, it was minor and you got to keep some bits. I remember you inquiring about the under bonnet sticker, if you can get the old bonnet back duck off to bunnings and get some un-do it sticker removal fluid and give that a shot
Also was the brake fluid fresh? The manual calls for it to be flushed every two years.
Apparently new under bonnet decals can be obtained from Germany, so we have 2 on the way, extra one to go in service book which was a replacement. Picked up car friday 5 mins before body shop closed. Shithouse bonnet fit and paint issues so it's going back!!! Will check on brakes and probably change fluids
Spoke with one of the Sydney-based Porsche approved auto body shops today and was told that they won't work on cars that are insured by Shannons. Their opinion is that Shannons are (to quote him) "totally cost based rather than quality based". Bit depressing when someone won't even take your job! And so much for Shannons being "the enthusiasts insurer".
I do wonder whether an "enthusiasts insurer" can maintain its culture when it's part of a big corporate group like Suncorp. You see it in little things, like their default position that you must use O'Briens to fix broken glass. Imagine how you'd feel about that if you'd insured a 959 or a 918.
Yes they are a joke. The use the same assessor's now that assess for Aami.
They couldn't care less if you are an enthusiast.
I get told that they won't assess my quote unless i re-write it. So the car goes elsewhere to get repaired.
If my customer is not happy with their repairs i end up doing a rectification job on it through a law firm.
Interesting, had a trouble free run with a recent claim on Shannons, no issue when extra components were added in after pull down (would have been another $500 or so on a $10,500 initial claim quote).
Thought I’ll dig this up. I’ve been with Lumleys for a number of years for all of my vehicles, but I decided to get a quote from Ryno and they are considerably cheaper for what seems like the same cover. Has anyone had any issues with or bad experiences with Ryno?
I'm with Ryno and they've been always helpful on the phone... Adam is great. I've changed my 2nd car from A to B and it was seemless & I claimed my 1 free windscreen repair earlier this year and again easy peasy! But no accident claim experience (thank god)....
And they're pricing is great!
Reprising this thread - sorry, not sorry!
Getting quotes for a 996, Shannon’s (while still being expensive) seems to be a fair bit cheaper than Famous, Ryno etc. Is this because the others are better for classic cars (over 25 years)?
What I think is the case, having now seen lots of insurance threads, is that one persons circumstances and the price they pay through company "X" mostly has no direct comparison to you, unless they have the same driving history are the same age and live in the same street whilst driving the same car, etc, etc..... We can glean how they act come claim time but direct comparisons on price seem fruitless.....
Thanks
@ANF
, yeah I appreciate that.
I’ve noticed it has been asked before but I haven’t seen any responses: Has anyone’s got any experience with Enthusiast Motor Insurance? I have just got a really competitive quote from them but i get the feeling it is “too good to be true”. I’d welcome any guidance on what they might have been like when claiming.
I have been with Shannons for a while now and had great service, easy to get quotes and the prices are very good (house and 3 cars on same policy) and they have been great on 2 recent claims. Others have different experiences, but for me I have a great experience with them. Also insured my cars for a very good agreed value price.
Think I'll reserve my final judgement on Shannons until I get my car back!
My suspension has some damage, and although I have choice of repairer with Shannons, the car was sent to 'a suspension specialist' because they regularly use them. After a week or so I called the 'specialist' who shall remain nameless for an update of how things were going. 'Oh great, we're glad you called us. Where do we buy parts from for a Porsche?'
?
That didn't fill me with a lot of confidence I can assure you!
Long story short, I pulled the car out of there the following day at my cost, and the people there were great and were happy to not do the job as they said it would take a month to source the parts then fit it all etc. I've waited long enough for the car to be finished and have been patient up until now, yet time is up and I want my car back so I had it sent to Buik Motorworks for them to do the work. The assessor wasn't overly impressed when I told him the car has already been collected and delivered to my choice of repairer (a Porsche specialist) as in my contract, and said they'd have to delay the work until they receive a quote from Buik Motorworks. 2 hours after it was delivered, a quote was sent to the assessor and a call made, both unanswered a day later.
They'd also said weeks ago they don't want to repair my rims, so a cash adjustment will be made once they have prices on replacements. Well you can't buy new Ronal Penta rims like mine, so I said I'll take the same price as a set of Fuchs replica rims (roughly $2000-2300) and here's the places you buy them from. 'Ok, we'll see what happens and get back to you'. 2 days ago they still hasn't sorted it out, as apparently they need to finalise the full quote of all repairs to see where they're at with it. Errr, no, you just pay me $2000 and thats it!
I'm sure it's not just Shannons who procrastinate with this sorta thing, and they've been great so far, yet why the he'll has it taken so long when people in their basic Hyundai or Camry wait 2 or 3 weeks for their car to be fixed?
It's driving me nuts!!!
My 996.1 is insured through Porsche Insurance. It was cheaper than Shannon's etc and seems to be as good a coverage as others. Of course, I hope I never need to find out what their claims procedures are!!
Just as a matter of interest, I thought I'd give Famous a try for a quote on our cars, as Shannons is coming up for renewal. Quote for the new 981 Boxster was 50% higher than Shannons, my 996.2 was double, and the Territory was also + 50%. I will look further afield I think!!!!
I know this question has been asked before but I am seeking insurance advice. My car is insured through APIA. I called them today to ask what would happen if I had a bingle, would they allow me to take it to a Porsche Authorised Repairer? Bottom line no. I would have to go to their repairer "Capital Smart".
I am not happy about this so I am thinking of changing insurers mid term and cancelling my APIA cover. I see Shannons are part of the same Capital Smart program as well so forget recommending them.
Ok recommendations please. I want Agreed Value, Choice of Repairer and Windscreen Cover. Limited milage discount would be good too.
Has anyone used Porsche Insurance? Were they reasonable in price?
Always happy to provide my feedback on insurance. Was with Shannons for a few years at about $6k a year on various cars. Moved to Famous recently, higher agreed value, better customer service and save about $2k a year. Famous also doesn't have limited mileage whereas Shannons does. Their reasoning is, yes I have 6 cars but only 1 driver can drive a car at any one time. However, the true test is claiming, which I hope I never have to go through.
I use Porsche insurance - they are based in Port Melbourne. I'm insured with MB group - agreed value but limited kms.
Have been very happy with them - hopefully the only interactions I have are renewals...
😏
Me too, I have voluntarily limited the klmns to 8,000 per year but if you do go over they just charge you an extra premium. I did the ring around this year again & MB ( Porsche Insurance) still the best for me. I have also claimed windscreens on 2 cars so far, replaced without question under insurance, cost just over $2K each, fitted by PCW with genuine Porsche screens.
I am with Porsche Insurance also - like

, I have the 8,000km pa limit which is fine for my purposes as the car is not a daily driver - just received my renewal for the 3rd year and annual premium increases have been modest (no claims) - the only negative is lack of track day insurance that I know some others (e.g. Famous) offer.
Hey Phil
I have my hotrod with RYNO. Havent had to claim yet but they were very professional, have an agreed value, their underwriter is lloyds, free choice of repairer and for my old car (as they are easy to fix they say and most parts are available world wide).. they were damn cheap. I have the boxster with them as well, a double deal, very well priced, around 1200+ for the 2.
@dan_189
are you both saying that MB Insurance (QBE are the underwriters for them) are the Porsche insurers as well and that they do offer agreed klms? I had my MB insured with them until last year but now that the car is 4 years old the premium was too much and agreed value dropped substantially. Used to be new for old up to 3 years, now my Benz is valued by them at $44,000 (not real good). APIA insure for $64000 and premium $100 less and less XS.
I will get a quote on the Porsche from Porsche Insurance though just to get a comparative quote
"Porsche Insurance" is the official insurance broker of Porsche Cars Australia. MB is who I am insured with through Porsche insurance with an agreed value and a limited kms policy. They also use Dawes who use a "no more than twice a month usage". Not sure how they enforce that. With MB I have to declare my odometer.
The advantage is Porsche insurance get all the quotes - you just provide the details and the cash...
Thanks everyone, I have taken out two policies on both cars thru MB Insurance. Very competitive quotes and they cover everything I needed (plus more) with choice of repairer and agreed value. Excess is good too. Now to cancel both APIA policies
😀
I broke the rear window in my van yesterday onsite (ugh!) and called Allianz at 9am. They transferred me to Obrien glass who sorted it out and had the installer come to site and fit a new one within 4 hours.
Now THAT is service!
I've been with Allianz for years, and have made claims for when a tree fell on our house which was sorted within days and paid out. Broke the front window of the van when a rock flicked up from a truck, sorted within a day. Now yesterdays breakage (my fault) and it didnt cost me a cent with a free windscreen per year.
Big props to both Allianz and Obrien glass
👍
Always been happy with Allianz mate. Highly recommended from my experience.
I've heard of other horror stories, yet the missus (who was the executive assistant to the Allianz big boss) tells me that most of the time they're from unrealistic people who just like to make mountains out of molehills about the smaller details, or false claims that get uncovered pretty quickly after an investigation.
That time of the year again. Quotes for 997.2 Carrera S; $135k, over 40, garaged, unblemished history, agreed value, choice of repairer, free windscreen cover.
Lumley - $1,200 with $1900 excess
Porsche Australia (MB) - $2,300 with $2,000 excess
Famous - $4,600 with $900 excess
Lumley is working out for me once again. Hope this helps.
MB for me. 8000km limited travel. Good value with a reasonable excess.
I do need to call every year though and "renegotiate" the agreed value as they tend to drop it.
Apart from that they are great yo deal with.
I am on a similar deal with Ryno. Loosely up to 8k kilometres per year, good excess etc & yes every year you've got to do the negotiation dance. Painful but worth the savings.
I've placed a call with Ryno and expecting a call back tomorrow. Will let you know. Interestingly, Ryno are a Broker now (since October last year). Consultant mentioned that they would be contacting Doors? affiliated with Alliance for a quote. Can't hurt to get a quote.
I saw that this change had occurred recently. I rang all the usual suspects when my Insurance on the S2 was due. Ryno was still the best overall for my car.

Lumley - $1,200 with $1900 excess
Porsche Australia (MB) - $2,300 with $2,000 excess
Famous - $4,600 with $900 excess
Ryno - $2,423 with ?? excess - received text with quote - didnt call them back to ask excess.
Either way, Lumley worked out for me again this year.
Understand that Famous is the only one to offer this, as part of their link up with Motorsport Aust. I used to have the cover on a LHD GT3 which wasn't registered, and the available cover was $100 for $10k, but it had to be a CAMS / MA sanctioned event (I think!!) and there may well have been a limit on the number of events you could do. Interestingly they told me they couldn't cover me if I got the car registered....
Others may be able to comment re availability of road rally coverage
Confirming the Famous event cover. Famous also offer storage cover at good rates if it's not a road registered vehicle (if you go in that direction). I've found them very pleasant to deal with.
Continuing my Porsche Insurnace policy on the turbo for another year!!
What do people think about the porsche tyre n rim policy??
What about roadside assisst??
I just bought a 2022 911 Turbo for c$500k. Porsche insurance quoted me from Dawes and MB. Quotes weren't too bad but not a good as from going to MB direct. Matrix insurance group were more expensive than either of those. Major insurers wouldn't touch due to value.
Also worth noting, MB happy to insure as long as car is on property (even drive way) during 11pm - 5am. Dawes want it in a locked Garage. Also found out that with MB if you have speeding points <30km/h that's ok but if you have 2 or more tickets >30km/h you're outside the limits of the underwriters and they won't insure.
Prestige Car Insurance for your Special Vehicle - MB Insurance
Yep second (or 3d) MB Insurance, although haven't had to make a claim (yet), that's the true test I guess.
Just in process of a claim after someone backed into the front of my 996. Smooth going so far, albeit a little slow, but not sure if that was the bodyworks or MB. Bodyworks is replacing guard, front bumper and headlight, so labour component is fairly low. Assessor did a "desk review" and approved claim straight away, mainly due to the low labour component. That seems to be their main area of potential concern perhaps?
Just received renewal from Shannons, Spyder and 964 same agreed value but premiums up 21% (no claims no demerits), Macan same premium but value dropped by 20%, looks like I'll be shopping around again...
Same position here; just sent some quote requests through to MB, will be interesting to see what comes back as I believe the insurance rises are everywhere this year
Mine is with Shannon's and it went up 8% (renewed in October). Agreed value I'm happy with (for clarity same as 12 months ago as it went up by what'd be a rounding error), but its still 5 figures for the premium across 7 vehicles .
I also don't drive a lot now <8k per year
Our Macan has same value as last year FYI
