Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone that has been down this path before have any advice before I jump into this project. TIA

POST 2Original post

I have the DAS roll bar in my '99 coupe. Make sure to cover/pad everything in your car before performing the install. Both seats will have to come out, so don't leave the key in the ignition. You'll trip the airbag light. The first set of bars that I recieved were bent either from shipping or from factory. It took 3 sets before they got it right. The problem was the back part of the bar didn't match the mounting holes from the shocks. Also, make sure don't knock the bolts on the shocks down. You will need to lift the car up to get to the bolts if you do. This may not be an issue with stock shocks. I have JRZs and the bolts can fall through. Lastly, these bar makes a lot of noise. Don't expect to have a stock car after they go in. Also make sure your club allows the bars. POC in CA will only allow them for Time Trials.

POST 3Original post

Dan, that is pretty intersting information. I just bought a D.A.S because after about two weeks of lobbying and spec verification, the PCA Club racing stewart would not accept the Factory SS roll bar, the one with the cross member/bracing. I bought the DAS as it was advertised as being "CLUB RACING APPROVED". After receiving it, I was more than impressed with the build quality and the "things" that were not acceptable about the factory unit were certainly present on the DAS. Do you know why POC in CA will not accept this? Obviously it does not meet the specs for a "prepared or GT" class car but should meet the specs for cars running in as unprepared in stock class. What do you mean by noisy? Thanks Dennis

POST 4Original post

Dennis, I don't know the whole story behind why they won't allow it in club racing, but I was advised that I can only use it for time trials. I would guess that the bolts may not hold up under extreme crash conditions. The noise from the bar comes from the connection between the "X" portion to the "front" hoop. The two bolts hold them in place, but after you flex the chassis a few times, they get loose and the clanking/squeeking between the metal starts. I might try a lubricant to reduce the squeeking. Also, I may just have a noisy one.

POST 5Original post

Hey Dennis Cataldo, Im interested in the GT3 bar you are removing, as you may already know from the guys at Autobahn. You wont have to pay me too much to take it off your hands.... John Murray

POST 6Original post

"Do you know why POC in CA will not accept this?" Sadly there is little parity between PCA and POC, and this applies not only to safety. Classing cars and point assessment for mods is totally different too. BTW, you should do more research re: your GT3 bar. There have been claims, though none I've seen in writing, that those bars are FIA approved. The "word" is that Porsche used to claim they were FIA approved because their vendor claimed they were. I was also told that Porsche changed vendors and they are now FIA approved. However, no one seems able to supply proof. Gert is on it and if he can't get a copy of the FIA certification (has been trying for about 2 months for me), they probably aren't FIA approved. But, you might want to check into this further if perhaps they are FIA approved. The chief driving instructor for the POC here in CA said FIA approved bars ARE approved. The same argument might be made with PCA.

POST 7Original post

Thanks everyone for the information. Time is very tight now while I am trying to get the car ready for the first race. I have abandoned the factory bar, it is awesome looking though. John, is that you "928 man". Give me a call at work,[phone removed]. Dennis

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I installed my DAS-Sport rollbar last night. Everything fit perfectly and the whole project took less than three hours. The only disappointment is the height of the cross bar. It seems too low for attaching belts. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that yet. Thanks for the help. Jim

POST 9Original post

Well I got my DAS Sport bar this week. It's being powder coated and hopefully gets installed next weekend. A couple of questions come to mind. Did you leave the rear seats in? How did you modify the pad that covers the shock towers? Does the bar restrict rearward seat travel? What are the eyebolts for? Thanks in advance! Patrick

POST 10Original post

[quote]Originally posted by Dan T.: [QB]Lastly, these bar makes a lot of noise. Don't expect to have a stock car after they go in.[QB]

Mine doesn't make any noise at all. Relatively easy install except that my powder coating guy didn't tape one section very well and the overspray had to be removed before the tubes would slide together.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, somebody had been digging in the archieves. To answer your questions: 1) You might as well remove the rear seats. They are dead weight with the bar in. 2) I cut slots in the pad a couple of inches wide to allow it to slide back into place. It will be pretty obvious once you get the bar in. 3) I don't have stock seats so I'm not sure about restricted travel. I suspect it will restrict it some. 4) The eye bolts are used to attach the bottom of the main bar to the seat belt tower. I'm not sure why they used eye bolts unless they thought they could be used to attach belts?? FWIW, mine does not make any noise either. Jim
