POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently had the misfortune of having someone smash my front bumper while it was parked on a parking lot (and of course fled the scene) and am in need of replacing it. Any opinions on the quality of some of the aftermarket bumpers would be appreciated. I am interested in the VIS Racing bumper but don't know how these parts stack up against OEM quality. Not that I expect it to be the same as OEM (in terms of quality) but if I decide to go with aftermarket, I just want to know that the quality is good enough! This is the style bumper I am looking at. Any opinions (pros/cons) from those who have installed other than OEM bumpers would be appreciated. Thanks!

This car is Meteor Gray with Cocoa Interior. It has not been driven much, about 2100 miles in a year and a hlaf and the time has come to sell it. Miles: 46,XXX- (This will change a small amount but not much) This is the factory options that the car came with: 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe Division: PCNA* Prod Month: 02/2007* Year: 2007* Model: 911 Turbo Coupe Option Description Price: BASE Porsche Base Model 122,900.00 220 Axle-Differential Lock Rear 950.00 342 Heated Front Seats 480.00 635 Parking Assist System 530.00 640 Sport Chrono Package Turbo 1,840.00 9Q Meteor Grey Metallic 0.00 CNE Spoiler Lip Painted 590.00 CNF Front Air Intakes Painted 990.00 CUV Storage Cmpt Lid W/Model Logo 293.00 CXB Door Entry Grds Stl Steel Illu 780.00 DAD Gear Lever/Handbrake Alu./Lthr 1,680.00 M6C Cocoa Floor Mats 115.00 RA Special Leather Cocoa 430.00 XAJ Standard Rocker Panels Painted 750.00 XMP Lthr Sun Visors Lighted Mirror 560.00 XMZ Rear Center Console - Leather 1,260.00 XPA Thicker Steering Wheel-Leather 310.00 XSC Porsche Crest in Headrest 270.00 Total Options 11,828.00 Total Charges 950.00 Total Order $135,678.00 Only issue with the car is the front bumper has a couple rock chips. I will get it repainted if the new owner would like. This has hands down been the most fun car I have ever owned. I have not had any mechanical issue with the car and since I purchased it I have done a slew of things to it including oil change, coolant flush and brakes. Plugs were changed around 200 miles ago to fresh stock plugs and gapped down. All service done at either BBI Autosport or Cobb Tuning So Cal. This car has never been raced while I owned it, never seen a track. I rarely drove it and it sat in doors with a car cover over it. Now, as the car sits it makes 580WHP and about 580ft/lbs of torque to the wheels. It is tuned way down as not to be aggressive on the rods. The car has tunes for E85 and 91 Octane. This car runs as good as stock if not better. I have a lot of time in the tune on this car so I can say it would be hard to find a better running car. This is also the perfect setup for someone who wants to do a 997 Turbo with bigger turbos, as this car has literally everything that would be needed to do bigger turbos minus the turbos and the lines. These are the modifications done to the car as of right now: Engine: GMG Exhaust with High Flow Cats Cobb Tuning 1000cc Injectors Cobb Tuning Accessport with various different calibrations OS Giken Twin Disc Clutch Suspension: Eibach Lowering Springs Stock wheels and tires are brand new! Exterior: LED Tail lights LED DRL's Fixed spoiler Kit ( Not Installed) Interior: Has the bluetooth module/ Ipod hook up. LED Lights for all interior lights Passport Radar Detector Hardwired Price is as follows: $65,000 firm. No trades, no low ball offers. This is the price. Please email me if you are interested in the car. DO NOT PM! There is a group of people that will get the PM's notification and this is a sale of my personal car not Cobb as a company. [email removed] Please let me know if you have any questions at all! Happy to answer any questions and can ship ( Buyer would pay but we have a good amount of transport companies that we use) Thanks for looking! -Mitch Mckee

POST 3Original post

I think your best bet is a polyurethane bumper as opposed to a fiberglass bumper. Find a good installer and you should be set! I considered upgrading mine a while ago, but decided against it. It's hard to make the car look right without replacing the front and rear bumper.

POST 4Original post

Nice vehicle. Does it have AZ or CA title/registration?

POST 5Original post

Hey vicj, i recently had a similar deal, tho was hit by a drunk. I called a bunch of high-end places around the Dallas area, and most of them are very weary of using aftermarket products. The price of the products is one thing, but to get them to look OEM is another. Nearly all of them said its a lot of work to get them to look "right", and by the time they're done, it would have cost the same to go OEM bcuz of the fit. I will update my post once a decision has been made on my car. Depending on how bad yours looks now, you can scope out places for a while to see if you can get an OEM upgrade (ebay, c-list, etc.)...and i see you're in MD, so am unsure whether you'll be hibernating for the winter. This insight is based on the last 30 days of experience only. I also got a couple prices from vendors on here for OEM options for front bumpers to compare.

POST 7Original post

If the aftermarket bumper is trademarked "Duraflex" you shouldn't have a problem. A friend of mine recently replaced the front bumper to his 997 with a Duraflex bumper. Good quality.

POST 8Original post

So tempting! Do you know if it will pass Calif smog?

POST 9Original post

If you are going to do it go with a good one like Duraflex, Misha, or TechArt. Fit and finish is important, a well made one will fit right into place with no modifications, some mfg's claims don't live up to this.

POST 13Original post

Fyi I had some problems with the duraflex GT2 replica bumper. Fit wasn't as good as some people are describing. On top of that, my wheel liner doesn't fit properly so there's a pretty significant gap between the bumper and wheel liner

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 3733419

Quote: Like I said, it's all about fit and finish.. OEM would work well but some of the aftermarkets just don't fit well. I got a front lip and tail from an after market seller, and the tail was not as described and the turbo lip is really garbage, came all warped so I can't get anyone to install it because they don't want to be liable, and I can't blame them.

POST 17Original post

I would keep oem bumper as long as possible simply because I doubt it easy to match the quality ofcyour factory paint job.

POST 19Original post

For what its worth, im replacing my base OEM front bumper w an OEM Aero front and adding sideskirts. Everyone i know has told me that was the best decision i could have made...sticking w OEM. Obviously, its about twice the cost, but were driving P cars and i feel strongly that both i and my car deserve the best. Plus, my kids think its "the bomb"... Whatever the hell that means:-)

yeah, isn't that great! someone drives it around ( gorgeous perfect specimen btw ) adds another 268 miles to the odo..takes some better pics and adds $4800+ to the price! certainly their prerogative. was a steal at 65 though. gotta love used car dealers. sheesh.

POST 25Original post

It's difficult to match the paint on a polyurethane bumper exactly to the paint on the metal. As a result, most body shops will "panel paint" the bumper only without blending the color into the fenders. I had my rear bumper cover replaced and painted in this way, and it looks great without changing my factory paint on the metal.
