Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

It has been a while, and it does not seem to use much oil at all. But I cannot for the life of me remember if you add oil when the engine is warm and key off or can you add it when the car is running and warm. Thanks in advance. John

POST 2Original post

Read the owners manual because for some reason it varies from year to year. The reason I say that, early models suggest to check oil when the car is cold, other MY say to check when it’s warm and running

POST 3Original post

If you have a 987.2 you need to check oil level with the engine warmed up and running. When you add oil the engine should be off, but it doesn't matter if it's warm or cold. It just needs to be warmed up and running for the sensor to measure. I dunno about the 987.1

POST 4Original post

Yes it doesn’t matter when you add, just when you check it… that’s what I meant 🤦‍♂️

POST 5Original post

Ok, that is great. Funny how you can forget these things. Best, John
