Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It will cause the 355 and 360 used prices to drop.
Leading evidence: 'Use prices' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best bet' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Test drive a couple of cars' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Ron: Go for a test drive in the 360 -- that's the F-car to get, IMHO.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone driven a 355? If so, how do they compare to the porsche 996? Fun factor, power, handling, manual transmission shifting, steering, turning circle radios.
I took a test drive of it few month ago. The answers to your questions. Fun factor is better than 996, handling is good, manual transmission shifting is smooth, steering is direct and precise, turn radios N/A. F355 is on the wish list of my next car. But, I will keep 996, since 996 is a 4 siter and cost lees for mantainance.
Drove one for three days last year. The exhaust note is increadible. The power is awesome. The car will get sideways on you very easily as I found out on the strip in Vegas DOH!! I will say it is one of my favorite cars. I had an brand new M3 waiting on me when I got back from that trip and it was a bit dissapointing coming from the 355.
I've driven a 355 with a somewhat different opinion. The engine sound is great-better than any other make. Power is excellent, but higher in the rev range so acceleration from lower revs is worse. In my opinion, the steering feel is far from excellent (I've got a 996TTX50,a Lotus Elise 190 R, a Lotus Super 7 among others, so I've experienced the range of great steering cars). Overall, the 355 is a great car for enthusiastic driving, but not a great car as a daily driver. Since the cost is comparable to a 996 TT, the comparison should be to a TT and not a non-turbo. In my opinion, the 996tt is the clear winner, if you want to drive more than a few thousand miles a year. I have 9000 miles on my TT and haven't regretted my decision for one second. AS
I appreciate everyones reply. I have an appointment at the Auto Galery in Woodland Hills this Saturday. They have many Porsche Turbos, and one 355 with an f1 transmission. I will test drive a couple of cars. Personally I would prefer the 6 speed to the f1, but that is all they have.
Thanks again for all the replys. I will only buy a 6 speed. I am not buying a car today. I also want to test drive another Lotus. The last one I drove was a black 99 sport 350. It drove like crap but was fast. I think the car was not a good example. I may later go to Symbolic and test drive theres. They just told me to call ahead, and they will let me drive the one they have there. The porsche turbo is probably the best bet.
The current issue of Forza magazine has an article on maintenance costs. Check it before you take my word for it (I didn't by the magazine), but I think it said that a typical major service (30K, not 15K) on a 355 costs something like $6,000!! Great car to drive, though.
I did not test drive the 360. I test drove the 355 paddle shift and the 996 turbo. The turbo is a rocketship, love second gear. As for the cost of the 30,000 mile service on the ferrari, it runs around 5000 dollars.
I have to agree with Jack. Test drive the 360 Modena and I think you'll love it. Last night I drove a 360 with TUBI's and I can't even try to describe the sound that it makes
One other thing I noticed was that I really didn't like the F-1 at all. I could live with it but the six-speed is a batter car to drive IMHO.
Funny thing was that after the drive, I thought I'd lust for one and I was surprised that I didn't. I guess I'm too died in the wool 911 fan for that
Ron:
You might want to wait alittle if you can. The word is the 360 is going to be upgrading next year to 460hp, and there will be a few other improvements. I am on the 360 waiting list myself and will probably be one of the first in my area to get the new model. It will cause the 355 and 360 used prices to drop.
