Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I've got my engine apart for rebuild, and the place that is doing my rotating assembly balance also offers rod shot peening. Would this be a useful thing to do? I couldn't find any info on whether or not Porsche shot peened their rods from the factory, but I found some other manufacturers that do, so I would assume Porsche does to. The rods have about 100k miles on them and it'll be a NA 3.8 build, so a bump in power over stock, but not boosted power or anything.

POST 2Original post

If I was thinking that way I'd rather get upgraded conrod bolts, you can buy ARP through L & N. That is not to say I think keeping it stock is a weakness, after all they covered a hundred K without an issue. However said bolts can stretch but that can be measured during the rebuild, I think anyway.

POST 3Original post

You are spending money to rebuild. Rod bolts are a known weak point. You cannot resize the big end on cracked rods. Cracked being the production method of seperating the big end at manufacture. The irregular surface then aligns the cap perfectly to that perticular rod. To resize you have to machine that irregular surface away, ruining alignment. In my opinion an h beam upgrade with arp 2000 bolts is a no brainer when rebuilding. Why put a potential failure item back in the motor. Just my .02 Lester

POST 4Original post

I'm for sure replacing the bolts with ARP ones. I was just wondering if there's other stuff like shot peening that will help ensure longevity given that they have 100k and 16 years on them. Of course, if I do too much, I'll be half way to some k1 rods, so I guess there's a balance to be found.
