Picked-up the Cayman this afternoon. By the time the paperwork was done the sun had set. After the mandatory driver orientation, I'm off, but not before adjusting those side view mirrors, and even though we've all read about the awesome view in those rear-view mirrors, you stop and think, Are these mirrors on here so I can admire the rear fenders? Because it doesn't look like I'll be able to see anything else besides these voluptuous hips, hmm, maybe I need to adjust them a bit more!. Traffic is surprisingly light. Drove with the windows down to get more of the addictive sound.I had gone aboutabout a mile south-bound on PCH when I heard someone yelling, 'How do you like it?' It was then that I realized that I had become mute. At a stop light I adjust the bass, treble and fade on the Bose. Okay, Sounds much better now! Obviously when I did my test in the PCNA car the Treble and Bass were set to zero. This is good stuff. But the light is green, got to go. Turn the sound system off. Got to hear all of these sounds; up to 4000 RPM only, I tell myself. Careful. Friday night, full moon, coming into North Laguna beach, a known speed trap. Okay past the speed trap, time to step on the gas coming around a right-hand up-hill sweeper. Suddenly an SL-500 appears, trying to get a good look at the new Croc. Okay slow down, you don't want to be like the Corvette headed North-bound, sidelined by the Laguna Beach Police. Finally after numerous traffic lights, I hit an open stretch of divided highway. I leave the SUVees and other RIF-RAF behind at the light. I'm gone, up the hill, slight bend to the right, then down a left-hand sweeper, open road ahead, I step on it. The sounds, the confidence, approaching a 100 mph, the light at the bottom of the hill turns green in anticipation of the Cayman, When I arrive, whatever traffic there was has cleared out. In the right lane, I'm by them all, across the bridge, up the hill, intersection coming up, need to turn left, it's just me, the smart traffic signalgives me agreen arrow. A downshift and I am through the intersection, on the gasand up the hill. Seems like there is plenty of torque everywhere, but then, I haven't been above 4000 RPM yet, so what do I know about this car's torque? And, then, I'm home. The Cayman is home - finally! Car is cooling off. New car smells abound.
I'll be up at day break ready for more of this.

mpollard,
What a GREAT story!! I LOVE IT!!! I can't wait to hear more tomorrow. Oh my do you have a surprise waiting for above 4K. Have fun my friend, and keep the stories coming.
Aloha Russ Out
I plan to take the Cayman o the 7:00 AMSaturday morning Crystal Cove car get together. This outrageous yellow Cayman should be a novelty. Unless the other ten people who took delivery of their Caymans today show up. The dealer had about fifteen more Caymans lined up for detailing and delivery Saturday with more trucks due in the morning. While checking out the Speed Yellow Croc at the dealer, this guy comes up to ask if we are taking delivery. Said he just seen the Cayman that he had ordered but then decided against so that he could get a Cayenne. Said he needed the Cayenne because he has a 3 year-old. My 3 year old was crawling around the the front of the car at the time. He was a little bumbed not being able to be taking his Cayman home today. I thought to myself, get a roof rack. Don't hesitate, don't vacillate. You want this car.

<p class="MsoNormal">Damn mpollard, I thought I had been doing a good job of keeping my excitement and anticipation about [/quote]my Cayman in check but you have put an end to that with your initial drive post! I was originally rather annoyed that my car was coming earlier than I had asked (I’m in MA and I want the worst of winter to be past) but now based on your post I’m delighted. Many thanks indeed for a wonderful posting and for all the Cayman information and news that you have taken the time to make available to us.
mp, you blew your Mr. Cool reputation. Great description. More please.
mpollard,
I cannot wait to hear your part 2 and 3 and 4......... you probably are out there in that puppy right now!
Patch,
My car will be ready on Wednesday. Arrives Tuesday afternoon. You will get a full report!

Your son looks to be thinking about the day his old man buys him a new Porsche. Race driver eyes I'd say.
The Cayman S...bringing out your inner child!
mpollard, what a story!!! I was then thinking I HAVE to see the Speed Yellow. And then I scrolled down and saw it and I laughed out loud with that big hat. Now pull the camera back and show us that animal!. -Pete
I have a picture of me somewhere at about the same as young Mr. Pollard here in behind my Dad's new 1948 Ford truck. I wonder what will be transporting your son in 60 years????
Some cars are even better 70 years later. Hopefully, he'll take good care of this one!
mpollard,
That is about as pretty as it can get, and to think these beautiful cars perform as good as they look! That red buggy in the background ain't too shabby either.
