K-man S - I was not aware Cayman Sports had been released yet, I will definitely check with the dealer.

If they aren’t “GT Sliver” the change from “Arctic Sliver” would not need to happen.

Did I also mention that I can't change now even if I want to so don't tell me how much better the SD's are than the classics.

Like those a lot!My build starts in a couple of days but I don't understand why they can't change the wheels before they ship?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

anyone know whether the Carrera Sport 19' wheels are available for order yet ?
My car is supposedly being built Real Soon Now tm and I originally wanted the Carrera Sport 19's .. but they couldn't supply them when I ordered.
Anyone know whether they are now available?
It looks like they are:
XRR 19 inch Carrera Sport Wheel
This information comes from the Build your own Cayman site in Germany.

My dealer confirmed they are available when I visited the Cayman on the showroom floor last Friday.
They are wider 8.5 inch front and 10 inch rear than the other 19 inch wheels
Ok not the PAPER order guide but the COMPUTER screen for dealers to actually order cars from. The paper guides don't mean a lot right now since there are several options not available in the computer. If they aren't in the computer your dealer can't order them, you can't get them on your car. So while these are in the paper order guide, showing up on the computer for order entry is the key.
Yep......not in the computer.......can't spec. When I do a US webbuild on a Cayman they are not there either......although I could have sworn I saw them earlier.
Today the Porsche Cayman model configurator says that February 2006 is the earliest that these wheels will be available for production. The price is $2,070.00
Correct mpollard, normally my cayman would be delivered in january, but I have to wait 1month longer because I ordered the Carrera Sport wheels/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/cry_smile.gif/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wall.gif
Christophorus 316 October November 2005 - Porsche Tequipment -Wheels and Deals, page 78,has this to say about the new 19-inch Carrera Sport wheel:
The 19 inch Carrera Sport Wheel with its GT silver metallic multi-spoke rim center and polished rim flange.
mpollard - Is there a link on this information about the Carrera Sport's from Christophorus, if so could you post it. I LUV these 19's. Thanks...
zornet
Christophorus 316 has a picture of the wheel and the quote above. This page is not available online. There are more pictures and more information about the wheel here in the Tequipment Cayman S, which includes information and photos of all wheels, including numerous shots of the Carrera Sport. The Christophorus article actually is pointing to the Tequipment brochure.

I actually have a copy of the “Tequipment Cayman S” catalog, but didn’t see them mention the color being “GT Silver”. I would like to confirm the color before moving on. Thanks.

I just ordered my cayman yesterday. I went with the Classic Carrera 19s. I thought they looked good and very easy to keep clean. Also On the Basalt black I ordered I thought it went well.
'The 19 inch Carrera Sport Wheel with its GT silver metallic multi-spoke rim center and polished rim flange.'
Great looking wheels and will be especially beautiful with black paint.
Quote above from Christophorus 316 October November 2005 - Porsche Tequipment -Wheels and Deals, page 78,talking about the new 19-inch Carrera Sport wheel:
Since they are wider, does that imply that one can mount wider tires on them. Looking at the TechArt car it had 305 in the back - I am not sure if I would go that wide, but 295 would be nice. Are there any rubbing problems with going wide in the back - I have no plans on touching the fronts and keep them at 235. When I looked at the car in person, I felt like lowering it about 2 - 3 cm would make it look even nicer.
Wouldn't 295's be nice! If I thought that was possible I would have ordered them, but like jneq I went with Carrera classics which I still think is the best looking and most practical wheel of the entire lot. Did I also mention that I can't change now even if I want to so don't tell me how much better the SD's are than the classics.

Thanks Mpollard - I had seen the quote “The 19 inch Carrera Sport Wheel with its GT silver metallic multi-spoke rim center and polished rim flange.”, that you had posted earlier. I was just concerned if that quote was from the manufacturer of the wheels - Tequipment, or Christophorus 316 take on them. As I am considering delaying my build from January till February to be able to acquire the Carrera Sport’s. As “Arctic Sliver” is my exterior color of choice, but maybe changed to “GT Sliver” to have a spot-on match. If they aren’t “GT Sliver” the change from “Arctic Sliver” would not need to happen.
zornet
I didn’t think that they were Arctic Silver, as they are much darker. I actually believe that they maybe darker than GT Silver. As they’re new 19’s and not on the street as yet, unless we hear it from Porsche or Tequipment how knows?
zornet
From reports I've read & based on the Boxster's handling, I expect the Cayman to understeer. Adding that much tread to the rear while leaving the suspension & front tire width stock will likely worsen that condition & you could create a 'plowing pig.'
Zornet,
I saw these wheels on a 997 at Woodhouse last month, maybe your dealer has the same, these wheels have been available on the 997 for a little while now.
