Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I checked the horn after the replacement, it sounded the same.

However, in this instance the specialist should have checked each horn with the scanner separately (based on sound), before putting the bumper and the wheel lining back.
Leading evidence: 'Check horn' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'high note or the low note' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check each horn' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So, when the scanner checked the low not horn, it was actually the high note plugged in to the low tone port, similarly when the high note horn was checked, it was actually a low note horn that was connected.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
This is my first Porsche early 997.1 and recently, one of the horns stopped working. Not sure if it's the High note or Low note. I have had a look around to get a replacement horn, however fitting a replacement is what I am faced with. I know both horns are located behind the front bumper on the passenger side. Getting the bumper off requires a hoist and two people which I currently don't have access. What I need to know,
1. Is there anything else I can check easily before going into the removal of the bumper?
2. There is an adapter/connector that is shown with the horn. Why is this required?
3. Is there a way to access the horn units by removing the undercover and attempt to clean the contacts?
Thank you for your support and advice.
Cha
How did you go with this? Do both horns work in conjunction to make a certain sound?
When I bought my 987.1 and took it to Porsche for a service, they told me that the "horn note" was not correct. It just sounded like a bloody horn to me. They asked me if I wanted them to correct it. I told them to go for it, thinking how much could it cost? I think they charged me over $500 for it. It still just sounds like a bloody horn to me!
Hi All,
I wasn't sure if it was the high note or the low note. The Porsche specialist tested the horns with the scanner, and the high tone port had no sound. So, I got it replaced. When I checked the horn after the replacement, it sounded the same. I was confused,so took it back and with the scanner each horn was checked. Both are working, but the difference in sound between the high note and the low note horn is hardly noticeable. This is my take on the horns:
1. The low note horn is 410 Hz and the high tone is 510 Hz. In the factory wiring, there will be a designated plug for the 410 Hz and one for the 510 Hz. If the horns are physically interchanged the scanner will not detect, as it only goes by the car's internal wiring - not the physical horn attached to it.
2. I suspect that someone had interchanged the high note and low note horns. So, when the scanner checked the low not horn, it was actually the high note plugged in to the low tone port, similarly when the high note horn was checked, it was actually a low note horn that was connected. So, the specialist replaced it with a high note horn in the correct port. This is a perfect example of 'two wrongs don't make a right'
3. The horns are located in such an inaccessible position and using a scanner makes sense. However, in this instance the specialist should have checked each horn with the scanner separately (based on sound), before putting the bumper and the wheel lining back.
