I used the car as a daily and also took it on Euro and Highland trips covering thousands of miles in a few days.

It’s a really lovely sounding car from the outside (when I hear it drive off when someone else drives it), but very quiet on the inside even with the SE on - any thoughts on change / cost much appreciated - also don’t want to end up with a horrid boomy drone.

Does the 997 GTS really want more mid range torque...one fo the delights of that engine is that with the Powerkit it’s got the top end that rewards using the full rev range of the engine.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I’m thinking of getting my 997 gts a tune by DMS automotive which will increase the power from 408 bhp up to 440 bhp and th torque increase of 28lb.ft the cost is just under 1k
They say that the midrange power is really noticeable
Has anybody used this company before??
Is there any other tuning company’s that do anything for a 997 gts
I’ve used them on a few NA cars with mixed results
Boxster 987 S - big positive difference and felt significantly more powerful. I was shocked that a NA tune could make such a difference
997.1 C4S cab - quite disappointed and never sure whether it made any difference to be honest
VW Golf Mk5 R32 - made a very small difference, didn’t feel like it was worth the investment
On balance, for NA car it seemed a bit hit and miss. DMS are legendary for safe turbo car remaps with great results, but having had my 997GTS for 5 years, I haven’t bothered given Porsche have effectively remapped the GTS with the addition of the power kit and I didn’t think there would be much left on the table without more hardware changes. I would put a centre bypass on the exhaust such as sharkwerks first (as I have) for sound and perhaps a little more power first.
If you go for a remap, I’m fascinated to know the result so please post your impressions if you do. If it reacts like my Boxster I’ll be booking mine in!

Hi there interested to know a bit more about the SWBP’s improvement to the sound of the car - I have a 997.2 GTS PDK. It’s a really lovely sounding car from the outside (when I hear it drive off when someone else drives it), but very quiet on the inside even with the SE on - any thoughts on change / cost much appreciated - also don’t want to end up with a horrid boomy drone. I had a SWBP on my 991.1 GT3 and liked it. Thanks

Richard - can't believe you haven't done this to your GTS yet! My / ABP's relationship with Sharkwerks began with my 997.2 GTS and I wanted a more pure Porsche like exhaust tone as the PSE didn't offer enough. The bypass transformed the soundtrack to a more GT3 like tone once the valves were open. I have a few options - email me.
Anyone else with a 997.2 GTS who is considering a re-map I suggest getting the exhaust bypass fitted before hand - also it gives an increase in the region of +12bhp.

Some of the Cayster engines are known for being severely detuned due to how Porsche position those models in the range and so this is one of the few examples where a mild NA tune makes a noticeable difference.
I'd be surprised if you could get enough out of the 7GTS to actually notice any difference, without spending big money.

Don’t bother, the GTS is a great lump, DMS dyno over reads by miles, you won’t walk away with a 32 bhp gain I can assure you.
You will Maybe get 5bhp and a cup of tea for the £1k.

this, it makes power till the rev limit, you just want to keep going and going.
better to improve the power to weight instead with li-op battery for the same £1k
32bhp gain
Reminds me of the back of old Max Power magazines.
Also, the exhaust's 12bhp gain SOMEWHERE in the rev range, but there will probably also be losses.
I remember allowing a BMW tuner to use my CSL to test numerous systems. One of them was a Supersprint that had various sections which would amount to a manifold back solution, if you so wanted. Of course, each individual item was 'meant' to give X amount of BHP gain - imagine the collective gain!
On the rolling road, the OEM system was ever so slightly improved with the Supersprint mid-pipe. Yet in essence, other than for sound, it was all completely pointless.
With N/A engines, you are looking for cars that are tuned due to model hierarchies with hidden potential. There are also instances like with my Performante that sacrifices a bit of mid range in order to exacerbate the build up and 'excitement' of revs. All told though, tuning non turbo cars is really poor VFM.

Sharkwerks independent dyno figures and knowing how litigious the US market is they are figures I would believe. Certainly on the UK made Milltek version there was also a maximum +12bhp improvement and it was better throughout the whole rev range.

But I agree - the DMS claims do seem a little creative!
Just saw this on RPM’s website....what on earth are they thinking “Build slot for a widebody 997 GTS CSR”. They’ve been great to deal with and always seemed entirely sensible in the past!

RSVP911 - just picked up this old thread - I have had my PDK 4 GTS and have been thinking of upgrading the exhaust to improve the sound would love to know more

I’d give Chris a call - I didn’t do this in the end so I can’t tell you I’m afraid - sorry

Hi,
I had the Sharkwerks x-pipe supplied by Chris back when I had my 996.2 GTS. I used the car as a daily and also took it on Euro and Highland trips covering thousands of miles in a few days.
It made simply the best possible sound. I can’t remember having any drone or odd vibrations. I also had the valves unplugged so the system was always open.
it’s well made part, and the difference it makes is noticeable. But it is loud. So if you don’t like people looking at you as you drive by, I’d give it a miss.
Regarding fitting, it’s quite simple. But the installer will probably have to cut off all the manifold bolts at this point. My car had to have them cut off and that was years ago.
Jack
