Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

In my research I came across a thread on this site that hinted at realigning the shift cables at the shifter...there is a small plastic alignment clip that attaches to the shifter to hold it in a fixed position while you adjust the cables to rest with shifter in that position.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I was examining my shift cable connections at the transmission end and noticed there was a small linkage assembly between the two cables connections. I tracked down the part number as 987 424 932 02 and it is described as "connecting rod adjustable". Both ends were securely attached but the linkage seemed loose, stretched perhaps. When would one adjust this cable? What symptoms would need to be present? Should there be slop in its length? There is a picture of this part in a Pelican Parts project, picture #3. Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Transmission Removal - 986 / 987 I'm having difficulty sliding the gear shifter into first sometimes and wondering if this linkage could help. I'm not getting any grinding, just I'll push down clutch, attempt to slide gear into 1st but it will not slide in. So also wondering if the bushings are worn and causing the shifter to not line up properly. Now that I type this, I bet my bushings are the cause since I recall being able to play with the connections back at transmission end and there was nothing preventing movement. So the blocking must be on the shifter side. Still curious as to what the linkage adjustment on transmission end would do though.

POST 3Original post

I have not found anything that describes what that linkage does. In my research I came across a thread on this site that hinted at realigning the shift cables at the shifter...there is a small plastic alignment clip that attaches to the shifter to hold it in a fixed position while you adjust the cables to rest with shifter in that position. I have not tried this yet but intend to give it a go someday.
