Coupla guys I know run Nangkang NS2R tyres on their air cooleds and they love them, as they provide good grip and last a while, and cheaper than most brands.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
Have a set of 16x7 and 8 Fuchs that I need some new tyres for. Does anyone have any recommendations? Sizes and whatnot.
Currently 225/50/16 and 205/50/16
Rears are 100% tread Hifly tyres dated 2020. Not sure if I should just leave them, or replace.
Fronts are Yokohama A.Drive R1 with 85% tread, but dated 2010, so I think due to age these have to go?
Not the best with tyres. Any help greatly appreciated.
When I first got my car its tyres 7-8 yrs old, after about a year I decided to get new rubber even though the tread wasn’t too bad. Changed over to BridgestonesRE003…. Compared to the old ones they were so much softer and grippier. I was very happy with these.
Coupla guys I know run Nangkang NS2R tyres on their air cooleds and they love them, as they provide good grip and last a while, and cheaper than most brands. If you want more grip/track tyre, the semi slick AR1 are great tyres, as I used them when I had 15in tyres on my 911.
They both come in 205 and 225 x 16
If they have cracking on the side walls or between the tread, then yeah they wouldn't be advisable to use for 'spirited' driving. Just putting around to Cars n Poser meets, then you should be ok...should
🤷♂️
I personally would never run different tyres end to end, especially with one end being 14 years old.
The reality is most classic car tyres will age out before wearing out.
The plus side is fresh quality tyres will give a noticeable improvement in how the car drives.
Thanks. You're right. They will date before they get worn enough to make sure change on my car.
I've got my current set of wheels on the car, which have tyres that are 3 or so years old. Might just put the new wheels on the back burner for a few years till.
The tyre compounds harden with age, so even if they have plenty of tread, there will be less grip and a harsher ride. Most say 7 years is a reasonable limit for a daily driver. My rears are now 8 years old, with very few kms. Fronts are 1 year, having replaced 12 year old ones.
I've only used Michelin Pilot Sports. They seem another popular choice. I don't track or drive especially hard.
What widths does everyone run front and rear?
From what I can see online
205 55 16 on the 7 inch wide, but not sure on the 8 inch wide. Some run 245 and some run 225
Availability of sizes appears to be getting less with 16's so you may have limited width options for complete sets.
I would go 205/55 and 225/50 in RE003's. They are very good all round, including the wet, readily available everywhere and if you keep your eye's peeled, they are often on a 4 for a price of 3 deal.
I've just bought my 3rd set.
I would say yes - I replace tyres every 7 or 8 years regardless of wear.
having bought caught in a downpour in a 356 and an early 911 I found how poor an old tyre is at gripping. On both occasions I was lucky not to throw the cars into the scenery
I have always tried to run Michelin Pilot Sports on my 16x7 and 16x8 Fuchs. Good trade off of grip vs life, and they are European, like the car. This used to be easy and economical 15 years ago with the PS3, but unfortunately PS4 is only available in the front size (205/55-16) in Australia. PS5 isn't available in 16 inch at all...
So I am also on the hunt for an alternative. I note that Pirelli has reintroduced the period P7 in these sizes, but they are $$$$$$$.
BTW, the 245/45-16 should only be run on the 9 inch rear wheels, not more common 8 inch.
I’m about to replace my 2nd set of RE003’s, options (other than a plethora of ditchfinders) are limited really. Pirelli Pzeros with the N5 Porsche rating are available, half the price of the P7 classic but still double that of Bridgestone. There’s a couple of Yokohama options as well.
An observation from a friend recently was the P7’s available locally were already quite old stock. He’d thought of splashing out on a set, asked what the date code was and was disappointed, think they were already 2-3 years old
Oh, that's a bit disappointing, I didn't know that and I need new rears. I've always run Pilot Sports and have 1 year old ones on the front. Hopefully it would be ok to run some RE003s on the rear.
I hated the "PS4" on my wifes Audi A3 (2L). They made the car feel very uncertain to drive. The "PS5" is so much better it totally transformed the car. As you can't seem to get the PS5 for your tyre size, I would probably go the Advan Neova AD09. They are NOT a wet weather tyre, but can still be driven in the wet if treated sensibly. They are fantastic in the dry, and found they were very predictable in the way they handled. Note - I had them on a 700Kg Lotus Elise so your experience may be different.
Just catching up after being away...
Sorry for shouting - it was a cut and paste from the web site!
Anyway, I find them a great compromise between full-on R Spec and top line road tyres Have them on my 944T and done multiple tarmac rally tours. No wet experience yet.
You have Hifly tyres fitted and you are wondering if you should change them
Apologies if that comes across as harsh, you need to get them off your car. And you cannot mix differing manufacturers on the vehicle. Or different types of tyres from the same manufacturer.
With regards to tyre life, it's 7 years.
Your fronts are the wrong size anyway.
205/55-16 front, 225/50-16 rear.
The above is in the owners manual.
Porsche make it easy, just use one of their approved tyres

Or you can simply ignore a Porsche engineer because everyone else who isn't a Porsche engineer knows better.
The RE-003 is not a bad tyre if you are on a budget, however, it does not work in temperatures under 7 degrees, and it does not maintain its required level of grip throughout its life. They are so cheap however, just replace when half worn. The 220 tread wear index is a plus I admit. It's not N rated, therefore Porsche doesn't recommend them. I wouldn't use the RE-003, but that's just me.
There's a new RE-005, however I have not tested it nor know its specifications.
I test tyres in the above sizes as part of my job. Buy rubbish and mix tyres at your peril.
BTW, model are the tyres/rims for?
And I've assumed you're driving on the street. Track work requires a different set of parameters.
No, it won't be.
