Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I checked the owners manual briefly and there is no mention of running in or not going over certain revs etc.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I got my base 992 today. OPC told me that you dont need a run in the car. Just don’t track it. But what is the real advice. I am sure all cars need to be treated gently for first few hundred miles but what’s the official word. I checked the owners manual briefly and there is no mention of running in or not going over certain revs etc. So what’s the correct advice? Thanks
I've had many new cars over the years and always follow the same routine.
Don't go over 4,000 RPM for the first 1,000 miles. Vary the RPM and gear changing within that 1,000 mile period (i.e. don't sit at 60mph in a single gear for miles). Don't strain the engine by, for example, going uphill in 5th gear at 20mph.
Once you hit 1,000 miles, don't immediately go mad, but treat it with a little mechanical sympathy.
There are a lot of people who say 'drive it like ya stole it' - I don't subscribe to that. Don't baby it, but equally have some care with a brand new engine.

So the OPC told you the same as the Porsche docs, why are you looking for another opinion? You certainly won't find an informed one. All you can do is decide (like the poster above) if you want to follow what Porsche say or make up your own regime. Why would Porsche say there wasn't a running in regime if there actually needed to be one?
There is a running in period, this is taken from my 992 GTS User Manual on Page 15:
In a new vehicle, the moving parts first have to be run in with each other. The first 3,000 km (1,865 miles) are required for this. The oil and fuel consumption may be somewhat higher than normal during this time.
Drive as follows during the running-in period:
Preferably take longer trips. If possible, avoid frequent cold starts with short distances.
Do not participate in motor sports events, sports driving schools, or similar.
Avoid high engine speeds above 4,000 rpm. Drive at low engine speeds when the engine is cold.
I followed this procedure up to around 1200 miles and then thought that was enough.

Thats the procedure follow on all new cars. Simple, and soon completed.
My GT3 kept reminding me to follow the run in procedure after starting it every time until I passed 1,500kms. Not sure if there is a difference between the engines though,
