Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

This has been solved - turned out to be an easy fix.
Leading evidence: 'easy fix' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'easy fix' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Inspect bushings as they are obstructed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Will be hard to inspect bushings as they are obstructed.

After fixing my cayenne which has similar noises, thst users ovserve and repair, i would tackle these noises in shown order.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
03 C4S. 32k miles. PSS10. Driving to work today, there was a loud clunking noise as I was merging on to the highway - felt like something fell off the front of the car, but banged and clanged its way through to the back. I looked in the mirror and coudn't spot any pieces flying around but my first instinct was I either picked up a big rock or something came loose and rattled its way back. Car drove fine so I kept going.
I get to work and notice that as I brake from 20-25 mph, the steering wheel shakes badly.
As I go over bumps, there is a rattling noise.
When I brake hard from 10-12 mph, there is a clunking noise and feels like something is loose. Best way to describe is that it feels like ABS is kicking in.
What I have managed to isolate so far:
There is no pulsing on the brake pedal (I thought it might be rotors)
Braking at speed seems OK.
I looked over the paperwork from the previous owner and the PSS10s were done less than 2000 miles ago and they did strut mount bearings as part of the job.
Cannot find anything in the previous paperwork to indicate rotors or pads were ever done. Currently at 31,600 miles.
Any tips on how to go about checking this stuff from easy to hard? Cross-drilled rotors cannot be turned correct? If I am doing rotors and pads, are there any recommendations for good dust less pads?
Thanks a lot for your thoughts,
I would definitely check the front suspension, rattling noise is a sure sign of loose, missing bolts etc... Especially since the new suspension was recently installed, theirs a chance that some bolts were not tightened properly or came undone.
Alright guys, had it up on a lift and found the problem within 30 seconds. Quite scary. Ready for this?
BOTH my front A-arm (or trailing arm I guess) bolts are missing. Its the bolts that hold the front of the arm to the subframe. Gone. We were able to just wiggle the A-arm back and forth as it was held on by only the rear bolt.
I guess this is good news and bad news. Good news because we know what the problem is and it's an easy fix. Bad news because I want to know how the heck a critical bolt like that just vibrates off, especially the pair of them.
Car is parked at the shop as I didn't want to drive it. Going to call Porsche in the morning to see if they have the bolt in stock. Anyone know if they would or a specific part # I should be chasing down?
To put some finishing touches on this thread, there are few things that can make sounds describrd. Each has to be looked at, or uf u do full bore approach, do all at once to fix sounds issue.
1. Lower control arms - known culprit, squeak or thud when going over bumps. You can inspect and see bushings tears. Fix is to replace control arms.
2. Upper control arms - known culprit, squeaks over bumps. Will be hard to inspect bushings as they are obstructed. There is process to inspect on cayenne section. If you replaced lower control arms, and sounds still present, replace the upper control arms. Plus read next point.
3. Upper shock mount bushings - known culprit in air suspension, clunking sound over bumps, especially low speed. These are rubber stops inside each shock. They are supposed to keep internals aligned, but if they get worn, internals of shock stary flopping around, hence clunking sound. Remedy is to replace said bushings. I have a diy from cayenne section on how to do this. Not hard, and if youre doingupper control arms, you have to remove air shocks, giving you perfect opportunity to to replace.
4. Sway bar bushings - not as common for squeaks. Easy to replace, but i would do thease aftervabove 3 are addressed. I have diy on sway bar bushing repair on here in cayenne section, i think.
5. Sway bar links - not as common for squeaks, easy to replace. If i reolace sway bar bushings, might as well do th ese too, cheap and need removal to change sway bushings.
After fixing my cayenne which has similar noises, thst users ovserve and repair, i would tackle these noises in shown order. Very doable as diy.
