Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The local Porsche dealer here uses a company called Fender Menders for all their body work, and as they are rather a insurance factory putting out cars, I'm kind of hesitant to take it to them...
Leading evidence: 'Use company called fender menders' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Got a scrape in my bumper cover that needs to be painted (the scrape is down to the primer). As I want to make sure that the paint is of the same quality I need to know the name of the german paint, and good alternatives. I've seen it quoted on this or the another list, but can't find the thread. Also how many coats of primer then paint, then clear coat is necessary to to get a good solid finish that will last.
tia for any and all replies.
Sorry about your scratch. It certainly is a PIA. I had one also. Here's what it looked like and here's what I had done.
GOUGE AND SCRAPE LEFT REAR BUMPER
CLOSEUP OF SAME HIT
I bought some OEM paint from
<a href="http://www.paintscratch.com/" target="_blank">http://www.paintscratch.com/</a>
and had a shop fill in the "gouge" and scratch, prime it, and then spray the entire rear bumper with the OEM paint.
It came out perfect. THe downside is that you can no longer claim original paint on entire car, but the job was so professional and the match so good it satisfies me and should not be much of a detrement if I should decide to sell the car. It is difficult to touch up metallic paint, especially silver a re-spray was the way to go in my case. Of course, I put a turbo nose on my Cab which had to be sprayed from a different color. In similar fashion my oem flared rockers were shipped unpainted with the car to the dealer, so those aren't "factory" painted either...which I understand is SOP with Porsche.
HERE IS A PIC OF THE REAR DECK LID AS IT MEETS THE REAR BUMPER AFTER RE-SPRAY
Very happy with the re-spray...total cost $500
I had my front bumper re-painted and was thinking about re-painting the hood due to small stone chips. What I learnt was that the original factory paint is very thin and thinner than what any body shop can reproduce. So, when you get a stone chip with the thicker paint, the new stone chips will also be bigger. As a result I did not get the hood redone. But I also learnt from the owner of my body shop that the paint on the hood would need to be matched up with the paint on the fenders as natural fading occurs over time. So, I don't think it is as simple as buying the paint color. On a new car, the fading is likely to be minimal but not zero.
I would have thought that you would have to buy the original Porsche paint to beign with and start from there? I noticed a post about a guy painting his aerokit and the suggestion that one go to Sherwin-Williams. I though that was a little weird as I doubt that Sherwin WIlliams paint is used in the original manufacture of Porsches.
Got this scrape yesterday, when my neighbors car across the street rolled (unmanned) down his driveway and into my car which was parked in the front of my house (where it NEVER is, unless I'm getting the riding lawn mower out of the garage)!
Don- Thank goodness I have no gouge like yours, but I agree, the entire bumper cover should be repainted. Just want to get the right manufacturer of the german paint, and clear coat. Don't think I'll worry about the bumper cover being original or not when it wasn't painted by the factory in the beginning anyway (Aero Kit was painted by the dealer, after delivery)
Wilam-I pretty sure Sherman-Williams paint is not the OEM paint. It is a German sounding name, and there is one alternative, but just can't remember the name, or the thread where I read it....
It is definitely not Sherwin-Williams as the guy in that post was disappointed in the paint match; there was none! I just thought it was weird that someone would trust their P-car to Sherwin Williams paint.
I think the Porsche paint might be BASF Glasruit. I am not certain. But, wouldn't a good body shop know this answer for sure? It looks like you are in SC and PCNA has some offices there as well as in Atlanta which you could call. I would ask around and see who is the best body shop in your area for P-cars and vtake a look at their facilities and the cars they are working on. Personally, I would only go to a body shop which specialized in hig-end cars.
I had my bumper repainted and it looks great, just like new. It cost me CAD $650 in Vancouver as they had to take the bumper off to do it right. Make sure they do that.
Wilam- Thanks for the input. Glasruit might be right. You are right about any good shop should know what paint system to use, but I just don't trust any in these parts, and want to get armed with the right info before I get burnt...Hopefully someone will come up with the answer. The local Porsche dealer here uses a company called Fender Menders for all their body work, and as they are rather a insurance factory putting out cars, I'm kind of hesitant to take it to them...
