The engine is dry, has had billet rocker covers fitted along with RS engine mounts etc and been serviced regularly under the previous owners care (there's some dark ages before that in the middle of its recorded service life) , has been fitted with a Fister exhaust (I think stage 3) which sounds awesome without droning at highway speed, now at exactly 120,000km it pulls like a train.

The wide body of this car came about because not long after receiving the car he crashed it, instead of repairing the car a brand new Turbo "body in white" was delivered and all the original cars bits were transferred to the new Turbo shell, the old shell officially destroyed and it's vin was transferred to the new car, and this car got the full Turbo brakes and suspension fitted too.

Anyway it'll be the perfect opportunity to drop the engine for a full check over and poke around in the gearbox and while the engines out makes it super easy to clean things up under there, fit a new engine bay liner and all that.

So it's a C2S with the addition of turbo running gear made 18mths before the factory did it, which is kind of cool.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, Anyone know if Porsche offered the M491 (Turbo Look) option for 993 Carreras before they started producing the C4S and C2S? Cheers, Phil

POST 2Original post

From my understanding the C4s & C2s are the wide body offerings, the C2s has the same engine as the varioram model Carrera, correct me if I am wrong.

POST 3Original post

You're correct about the C2s and C4s having wide bodies.  The varioram started on the 96 model, both narrow and wide body.  The C2s and C4s both have the turbo big red brakes.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Actually the C2S came with standard Carrera brakes and suspension, only the C4S got the full turbo underpinnings. The reason I asked about wide bodied 993 Carreras before the production of the C2S and C4S is because I now have a wide bodied manual 993 C2, this particular car is a 1995 year build (1996 year spec) car that was delivered new to Anthony Gobert who was a very talented Superbike rider of the day. So it's a C2S with the addition of turbo running gear made 18mths before the factory did it, which is kind of cool. Also it's an early Varioram car (there's no Varioram script cast into the intake) and that means it might also have the shorter gear ratios of the non-Varioram cars which would be nice, will have to check that, I think it'll be good car to develop. Anyway, I pick it up tomorrow, can't wait to get it home and dive in deeper. ,

I hadn’t met him but [team manager] Garry Taylor and [Suzuki race boss] Mistuo Itoh went to Australia to sign him. On his way to signing the contract he wrote off his brand-new $250,000 Porsche by jumping a red light and it hadn’t fazed him in the slightest.”

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes was quite the character, sadly passed away too early, would have loved to quiz him on this car, will have to care for this car well in his honour.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Picked up the car today, one hour drive back up to home from Bunbury, all went well and was a bit more of a GT style drive than the Hotrod SC as hoped. I had a 997 Turbo and the SC which was great but the goal was to have one car somewhere in the middle, I'm glade to say that's exactly what this is, I'm a very happy camper. Will head up to the big smoke later in the week to put it up on the hoist and undoubtedly start making a list, but its fair to say that at this point there's nothing pressing to do, except make the horn work and the indicators cancel

POST 9Original post

Interesting story on the body swap, my Targa 95/96 also does nit have the vario script.

So glad you’re happy with it… I had so many inquiries on this 993 & it sold quickly… if anyone is looking to sell get in contact with me, I’ll handle the sales process seamlessly… Cheers James RSR Classic Porsche Sales

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, back from having the car checked over up on the hoist at RJP Motorsport, have worked with Richard for well over 20yrs now with my 911s and would go nowhere else. All looks good and solid, its been no garage Queen in the past so there is some cosmetic cleaning up to do, during that process I'm sure I'll find what more it needs on closer inspection. Car has fresh H&R springs with Bilstein shocks, the brakes are not "Big Reds" but "Painted Reds" so standard for a C2S with the hollow spoke Turbo Twists, but the brakes are very good as they are. Gearbox shifts well with no issues and clutch is good, the only real mechanical issue with the car is that the lug on the front gearbox housing for the forward gearbox mount has been snapped off, and for some time too as the bit that has snapped off is not hanging around on the end of the bolt, which is also not there. First order of business will be sourcing a new front housing and getting that right, there is evidence that the box has been apart and it now has a LSD which was not on the original build sheet. Anyway it'll be the perfect opportunity to drop the engine for a full check over and poke around in the gearbox and while the engines out makes it super easy to clean things up under there, fit a new engine bay liner and all that. Body wise all is straight, It has had some repainting and only a small rust bubble forming in a lower rear window corner, the front Turbo valance has seen better days, all looks good walking around the car but someone in the past had a difficult driveway, its fairly scrubbed under there, that or it has seen some track time :). The car has a Turbo tail, they look fine and would be my favourite as far as turbo tails look, that melting form that suggesting much heat from turbo charging, but the car is not a turbo. I could set it up with the C2S twin grill lid and active aero, but the car has had the fixed turbo tail fitted and possibly won't have the wiring there for the active aero. My call is to fit a Ducktail with a more modern look grill to pull it forward in years, I prefer the lighter weight and simplicity of doing that, Ducktails do a great aero balance job and help with engine cooling at speed, will show off the widebody rear end better than with the Turbo tail and have no weight or mechanical issues of a standard Carrera lid (feel free to disagree). So plan would be to get a Ducktail (there are 993 specific ones now) and a fresh front valance and have them sprayed to match when I sort the rust bubble. Colour of the car is L744 which is Metallic Black Pearl, sometimes dark grey in appearance, sometimes almost a dark copper colour. The interior is OK but I'll get a new carpet kit from Lakewell in Belgium (have used them before with great success) and fit that, I'll treat the leatherwork best as possible, there will be some patina but that's nice, just trying to get the car tidy, not new. Lastly will fit a Porsche Classic Apple Play unit as I don't have cassettes any more. Will post the progress.
